I hope you find this grip as beneficial as I did! 🙌🏼
I've tried this after seeing a Paddy video talking about it. Feels to me like the club sets and releases easier and faster without any increased effort!
Update us on if you are going to continue using this grip. I can't wait to give it a whirl on the practice tee.
I tried this on the course today, but with a slight difference: I interlocked my right index and left ring finger (that would be left index and right ring finger for you righties) and overlapped only my left pinky. I double overlap just felt too awkward. When I made a good swing, I did hit some real monster drives. I also used it with my 3 wood and hybrid, with pretty good results. I'll keep at it.
Sensationell! Normaly my Speed with my first Drive is 92 to 95, then after a while and a lot of Drills i get 100 to 102 Miles and that not always. So i try this and WOW! First Drive 103 then 101 and 107! Never under 100 Miles. I am Impressed. It feels also not Bad with this Gripp. I will go on Course outside on thursday and let you know whats happend. Looking foreward for this gamechanger. Today i was on course and it Works Good. At the beginning the drives was a Little Right but then it going better and better. Feels Good for me with all my Clubs incl. Chipping. I give this a try.
Nice! You gave me a great idea. Do the double overlap but interlock your ring finger instead of the pinky. I haven't hit a ball that way but it feels really comfortable.
I use an overlap grip already, but I am going to give this a try to see what happens. Thanks Alex.
I changed my grip over the winter and noticed a significant difference, so from baseball grip to single overlap. I’ve had to change out my driver, 3 wood, and 5 wood from regular flex to stiff flex
Guys i see alot of passive aggresive comments here lets all remeber no matter wat daily video alex upload the fix that works for you will still needs u to put the hours in the range getting it correct i have gone from driving 200 yards to driving at least 260 270 find wat works for you and stick with that.
Well said , I tune in daily and sometimes I get something from it,sometimes I don’t,not everything is going to work and as you say it needs a few hours and several balls whacked out to hone into the techniques 👍
Go on Alex - Try the funky Japanese putting grip for your driver!
I do notice the diff in feels and swing by changing that and I switch up depending on what and why I am hitting.
My first thought is that double overlap would take a lot of the bottom hand out of the equation. Worth a try!
I have used this grip for years, if you hold it at the very top of the grip it becomes even easier to release the clubhead quickly.
I used this grip for a season. I can hit the ball a little further but when I hit a bad shot it was really bad. I use interlock grip now.
Can you do a video on hitting a down hill lie (severe) to an elevated green......distances ranging from 100 yards to 150 yards.
This is great idea Sam!!
Just swinging it in the living room I feel the double overlap makes me grip the club lighter or at least thats what it feels like which should translate to more clubhead speed. Need to try on range to see the impact
Let me know how you get on!!
@@AlexElliottGolf sure thing. Up til now my top swing speed is 112 mph and ball speed 163mph. This was in a sim indoors and warmed up. My top distance 311yrds. I am 57 yrs old however I feel I have more opportunity to increase my speed with adding more efficiency with technique. Strength side I am not lacking there so I don't think my speed increase is going to come from that. Oh and by the way I gotta fitted with a cobra darkspeed x 9 degree with a hzrdus 6.0,3.5 torque and low launch shaft,60 grams which got me to 311 yards. I previously used x stiff however I like the stiff as I don't have to work it as hard.
Jim Furyk has always used this grip
Was your normal grip more consistent as in the fairway or were they close to the same consistency?
Yeah I would say they are but in terms of a few extra yards I think this has legs
Jim Furyk did it
Coach, honestly, would you use this in a tournament? Would you really suggest it? No sarcasm, it's a real question
I don’t see why not !
Jim Furyk has used the double overlap grip his entire career. He's done OK with it.
Coach, after a month of using it, I changed my point of view about it. It's cool! works great! Thank you !
This Grip Witch Irons..
🏌🏌🏌🏌🏌
I’ve played since I was 16 in the mid 70’s driving about 200+ yds with persimmon, then went up to around 250 yards with the Big Bertha in the 90s at age 30+ and now at often 290+ at age 64 and all I had to do was buy better drivers every 7 years.
Alex, fun video have a counterpoint and a unique observation.
Counterpoint with personal anecdote, I've personally found interlocking grip impedes freedom, and it actually hurts my fingers, (I'm obviously doing something wrong), but my minds eye tells me it's simple biomechanics, interlocking anything usually impedes freedom
you might try the same experiment with one finger overlap, I believe players use interlocking to feel connected but feeling connected doesn't do much for a free release and might impede that, a video from you on one finger overlap vs interlick is the right follow up vid
Now for my personal observation:
I not only have two finger overlap, it happened naturally when I put the butt of my driver in the middle of my top hand.
Doing that the first time was the first time I ever felt the club actually release, I didn't lose control over ball doing this either.
I don't mean the middle of palm, shaft is still at fingers, I'd say about ring finger
You might give that a go too, not only gets a free release, has the added boon of effectively lengthening the club about 1.5"
I only do this with driver btw, irons I choke shorter
As suggested below, I did try this grip on the Course after playing my daily 9 holes. Hit 8 shots with my 21d Fairway wood. The first was such a "funny feel" but the ball flew straighter than I have been hitting previously. By the time shot No. 8 came around it was perfect. I'd managed to loosen the right hand & the ball flew very high BUT dead straight. Not sure that the ball went any further however the direction was just perfect. I will definitely used in tomorrows when there is "no beer on the result" & test out the length. Great Thank you Alex.
Very interesting. I can't wait to try this once it stops. Snowing
This was excellent. Went from 95 swing speed to 101 within 15 mins of doing the grip change.
Alex ... I follow your channel carefully. (Take this in jest ... ) With all the "10 yards" I've gained from your videos, I should be up around 300 yds off the tee!! Nope. Still stuck at 200 (not bad for a 70 y/o coffin dodger).
Hi Gene - it aimed at golfers in general and not everyone tunes in every day 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Jim Furyk uses that grip and finished top 10 for years. I tried it and pulled too many shots to stick with it. Nice video.
Try a double interlock.
I tried this today and it help.my swing become smoother. Of course iàm not hitting it 299 yds but it does seem to make my driver swing thru easier. Y right hand is a little weaker so by adding it on top of my left hand it helps my right hand more comfortable. Keep up the great work Alex.
Great job! Thank you Gary!!
If you can get me to hit it 288 yards, I would be happy enough.
I’ve been using the double overlap this year, along with the John Daly grip down tip, and no glove. I’m right-handed and use 1” J&J Band-Aid water block tape on my two middle fingers on my right hand and on my left hand, my index and pinky fingers.
Tried this at practice- works really well
More hinge that’s why
I tried this…seemed to work….
This is my grip for 8 years
Nice!!!
Double interlock?
Paddy's driver grip, is a secret sauce 🤫 I have tried it and it was not for me🥺
Paddy make's that swing look easy, in a Video with "Me an my golf" he did the swing plus took a ball from a ditch to pin high 270 yards in strong winds. It shocked everyone watching. Class act☘
Used the dual overlap during my round today on some shots. One thing I noticed immediately is that if I'm going to use it full time, I need to go back to standard vice midsized grips. Hit a couple poorly, but the ones I hit correctly went at least 10 yards farther and jumped off the club face. Definitely practicing this more in the future.
Basically, by doing this we make our shaft's lever action longer by the width of one finger. And that 'should' bring both the possibility of more club head speed as well as the possibility of less accuracy. How much more speed and how much less accuracy will be an individual thing. But it's worth a try. I know I tried it years and years ago but I was a pretty crappy golfer then. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try on the range again. I'm not getting any younger and more distance is likely to overshadow less accuracy for me now.
Jim Furyk has used the double overlap grip for his entire career. While not one of the longer hitters on tour, his driving accuracy is among the best.
Another stellar idea. I use this when playing with gloves on for winter type golf. Also, I've used just a baseball no overlap or interlock grip. Just have to remember to be smoother (for me anyway) or it can go left due to overly stronger right hand use.
Unfortunately, my hands are too small for the double overlap grip. However, I did find out that my results were much better when I stopped using a glove. That glove was costing me distance and accuracy.
Tried it and loved it!!!!. Have only practised with a 6 & 7 iron however straight away feel that the hands are working in unison not against each other. By Eliminating a strong right hand with only 3 of the fingers on the grip, I noticed No more monster blocks. Thank you so much for posting.
The more you overlap the whip your and speed your going to create. You can do a full overlap laying your right hand over the top. You would have the grip resting in between your thumb and index finger.
It’s the same principles as dropping fingers off the bat in baseball or softball, in essence you are extending the length of the club allowing you to create more speed and whip. Once you get used to the grip like any other, it’ll be come natural.
I'll have to test this out next time I hit the range. Thanks for the tip!
It’s definitely worth a try!!
I’ll try this. I’ve used interlock and the last few years baseball grip. The bball grip seems to stop a slice for me, but I’ll see if this might work on the range, then the course. Interesting. I have found a lighter grip pressure helps distance.
Jim Furyk and Steve Jones have won U.S. Opens with that grip. Are those corkscrew fades?
I think Jim furyk played a double overlap?
Just tried this today. Hit my drives longer. You can’t help but release to club! Fun to try
I got back into golf over the summer & I'm still trying to figure out 10 finger or interlock.
feels a bit wrong to me but did you try a double interlock as to me that feels more comfortable
Once I am warmed up, I will give it a try. I’m not gonna lie. It looks awkward.
Thanks for showing this Alex! I started using this a few months ago.
Interesting, worth a try ? Garry B in Manchester
I think Jim Furyk uses this grip too
Well Alex, this along with the putter grip have improved my scores quite nicely. Have been averaging 18 mts longer [GPS measurement's], higher & more accurate than the fingers interlock. It took a couple of 9 Hole rounds to master it completely. Now shooting on average 5 pars per round [9 hole] . The only drawback being Autumn here so my handicap looks good but wait until the winter & I may struggle a little! Cheers & keep up the great advice.
Brilliant kevin great work!!
Now try to hit a draw with the DO.
Why does he not use it with his irons?
You’re more warmed up on the last drives vs first drives. I would have preferred alternating shots! MEH!
Good point! But I was fully warmed up in the video 👌🏼
Alex your left arm pointing to the ground took me from a93 to a79 in one practice session. Thanks!!!
Love that!!!! Thank you for reporting back!!
That looks great Alex. I'll give it a go this pm. & advise back. I like to try anything that will get me more distance.
Let me know Kevin!!
Alex. If this really makes you faster and hit it further then maybe baseball players should try this to hit it further?
Yeah maybe so!
Great video mate, do fancy trying this today at the range. Think it might take some getting use to but why not hahaha
Yeah try it and let me know how you get on
I just like hearing you say " w overlap grip" lol
Hahaha 🤣
You have done me, that’s all I here now
With all respect Alex .. you’d be driving greens like Rory with the daily tips . Can we perhaps create a plan to work towards these gains rather than a daily fix . It dilutes your good work with the thumbnail click bait “ shock faces “ .. it’s what everyone does . have confidence in your message and don’t dumb it down .
Well. Said. Videos are great but the thumbnails are 🧢🧢🧢🧢
I've changed to a single overlap and it's made a huge difference! Can't wait to try this double overlap!
