I have one in my Embassy Traveler Sport and I totally love my unit. I pee in a separate bottle, being a guy. If you pee in the toilet, a must is cat litter. I use it after each new bowl, about a cup or so that also keeps the mylar material held down. Remember, you didn't have to pay for any standard tanks or plumbing. That's money saved. You can also use regular good quality trash bags to save big money. I could not be happier with my LAVEO!!!
I was about to ask about cat litter and you answered it. Which brand is best with humans? I know Fresh Step was phenomenal with multiple cats when I rescued them. But I'm learning about campers because I'm trying to move out .
@@Andromeda823 I have transitioned to horse pellets from Tractor Supply. It's a lot cheaper and IMHO works better. It comes in a 40lb bag. I have also figured out to use less around the rear 180 degrees of the toilet bowl and a bit more in the front 180 degrees of the bowl because the rear area doesn't get utilized and waste is minimized. Both litter and pellets work fine. Use what you have...
Thank you for a decent review, as you say honest. Everybody needs these functions, people need to talk about these things in the manner you are. Easy for blokes to pee away from the bog (English expression), not so easy for ladies. Of course sometimes both functions can occur at same time. You have worked out how to use this for you guys, great idea on seals too. I think I would class this unit as an emergency bog, I am thinking composting unit is not so bad after all. Actually my solution for a couple of nights away is a small toilet tent, a dug latrine and a pile of the dirt to cover, better cleaner and no smells. On breaking camp fill and put the removed turf back on top.
Super job with this review. I have a camper van with the standard flush toilet and black tank. My van isn't winterized, so no water for flushing during winter trips. I heard about a composting toilet that sounded good and after watching several reviews decided to buy it. I thought it was expensive at $450, but now that I've had it a month...I think it's worth every penny. It's a basic toilet with pee diverter, well thought out...and supplies are cheap. I'm not trying to push that company so I won't mention the brand name, but will be happy to share if you want me to.

I agree with you, but I didn't want to take away from your video. I am not affiliated with my new toilet company so I have nothing in the game. It's made by Trelino. Very simple, but effective. No smell, or virtually no smell because as you pointed out...pee and poop stink. I had no idea that separating the two would take care of this. I use aspen chips (like you would use for pet bedding) as my composting material. The toilet comes with a set of toilet bags that are compostable. You can use any good bag for this purpose. The funny thing is, on the side of these bags they give you in two inch letters is printed: "Holy Shit." Kind of embarrassing to walk around a campground with a bag that shouts that. No problem so far. I'm currently finishing up a two-week trip and have only emptied emptied twice. Of course, it's just me...but even two folks could probably go four or five days without having to toss a bag of poop. The toilets actually come in different sizes - I have medium. The urine goes into a separate container and I just stick that container in a grocery shopping bag and walk it into the bathroom to dump. Whilst I don't have one of these toilets and haven't used one, I have a cat and I put Bicarb Soda in the kitty litter to keep the smell down and it basically eliminates any smell.....also works well with bins! Also, if you can get biodegradable trash bags, I'd use them instead of the plastic ones that appear to come with the product so you can just dump the whole thing in a green waste bin (plants)!

This is the most honest review of the Laveo that I've seen on YT. I understand the appeal of dry flush toilets, but it is much better executed in the Wrappon toilet. I'd much rather have a single flush that I can dispose at my convenience (rather than storing 15 flushes). I don't understand why the Wrappon isn't more popular.
I think cause it costs more and it doesn’t look like a normal toilet. For me it’s the initial cost and the weird shape, the tiny legs. Otherwise I prefer to toss each bag.

For what it's worth, the company Joolca just came out with a composting Toilet for about 300 bucks. You can also buy an insert and use it as a cassette toilet. I think the different inserts are about 80 bucks. I was going to build my own composting toilet when I came across a promotion for them as they make things like outside showers, and hot water heaters and such. I'm not associated with them in any way. I just mentioned it as an option. Locally here I found a guy who has 25 Laveo's for sale For $350 each, so I thought I would look them up again and check out reviews. I'm glad I found your review. I think I'm going to stick with the composting style. If you put disposable bags in them and use them one time it seems way better than dealing with this contraption that could possibly leak .

3:19 Well regular toilet will smell too if it wasn't flushed all the way. It's odor less if everything is flushed of course. By odor less they mean that it seals up everything in a bag.

Thanks for this review. I've got this one on the top of my list so far. I'm still looking for a replacement of a Cassette toilet. Having a compost one will allow me to stay off grid a lot longer. I'm not planning to move mine at all as I have a separate space for it that is away from the shower. I do like the idea of those rubber insulation. You said you used window sealers? About the smell... I've been looking at the videos from Laveo and it seems as if they add kitchen waste as well. Being solo, I'm thinking that I may get more flushes out of it as well. I'll stick with a bucket and a bag, if urban camping or in a delicate environment, a shovel and a hole elsewhere. Removed the RV toilet and blackwater from my boondocking rig. Near all review's of composting toilets like Nature's head also have left me convinced not to try those. The Incinolet definitely has a place but likely fire hazard in an RV. I've used those and compost toilets at off grid places, and they work well. BUT WHY ON EARTH ARE NEAR NONE OF THEST ALT TOILETS NOT ELONGATED FOR OUR BDs????
Have you sent this review/commentary to Laveo? Especially regarding the red line bag status? I would recommend a minumum 1 cup of SweatScoop, or Worlds Greatest cat litter on top of each deposit. When the moisture in waste gets absorbed, the odor is greatly reduced. Those two brands of litter are "natural" and not messy asxa clay litter if spilled. Although there is some light dust.
I'm considering ordering an Embassy class B and they use this as their default toilet, although they will install a few others if you supply it. I like the concept, but it's WAY too expensive for what it is, not to mention the expensive cartridges. Paying $1000 up front AND having to buy expensive consumables is a deal breaker for me. I'd rather go with a composting unit...or maybe just a 5 gallon bucket lol.
Composting toilets in RVs is basically a hilarious scam. They are too small. You basically have to empty the poo container way before it have any chance to compost. So it essentially is the same as just pooping in a bucket. And of course they are a nightmare to clean since you cant get water in the poo tank. Especially bad if you are female and still have periods.

So we just took our first test trip from NJ to Indy and back. We plan to take local trips a few times a year and some longer trips a few times a year. We used one cartridge out to Indy and back (just pee). We still had several flushes when we returned so we decided to leave the toilet in the shower as a test. We used pee powder- (if you don’t the pee will remain after a flush) and there was no smell except when you flushed the unit. When we finally exhausted the cartridge and emptied it (after a month) there was some leakage in the bottom of the bowl. This is understandable after such a long time of use but not ideal. The unit did great controlling odor of 15-17 flushes of just pee, can’t speak for poo as we didn’t use it for that.
Made in the US which is why they'd have crappy customer service if they do in fact have crappy customer service....one guys opinion doesn't make it fact! It would also explain why they make claims about their product that may or may not be true......my experience with US retailers as an Aussie has been very poor compared to other countries. Whilst pricey, I think if you are living out off a tent or a trailer with no plumbing or building a camper and wish to save money, the 2K would be the cheaper option than installing plumbing and a grey water tank which you can only empty at certain locations, which is ok for those that are traveling but not so good for the homeless! I've seen one US review say that they are $800USD but factor in currency conversations, shipping costs, tax and the fact that the business has to make a little $ on top to continue operating and a $1,200 price increase is fair considering I've seen Aussie retailers selling US made products that charge almost 3 times the original price of the product.
Don’t have to deal with composting? I think I’d rather deal with composting bag than raw poop bag. Both are equally easy to dispose off. One big difference is two people can go approximately a month on one compost treatment for $3.68. The bags for this dry toilet are expensive and according to what I’ve seen are hard to find. Plus the bag cassettes take up a lot of room to store. Just my assessment after installing a Natures Head and researching dry flush toilets. For us it was a no-brainer. Also, this toilet is totally odorless. I was the world’s biggest skeptic. Now I wouldn’t even consider going back. Poop doesn’t stink till you mix pee with it. Then it becomes sewage. Why would anyone pay that much for a toilet that’s expensive to use and you have to baby it?
I agree with you. The cartridges are cumbersome. I hear that you can only go 3 days in nature's heads before it starts to smell. I don't know though as I have no experience with one.

Not only does this toilet not smell after 3 days, it doesn’t smell after close to a month when carried outside to dump. What I’ve learned since using this toilet is poop alone really doesn’t stink. The instant you add a little pee to it, it takes on a whole new persona. Even when you open the trap door to poop it doesn’t stink. I was pleasantly surprised after a month of use. Not sure who told you 3 days because they couldn’t have based this off of experience.
You can buy them direct from the manufacturer it's cheaper than Amazon I have a laveo dry flush and I absolutely love it I've never had a problem with smell mess leakage or anything I wouldn't use any other toilet
@@GoingBoundless not true. The two of us go 3 to 4 weeks between change of coco coir. Never any smell. The natures head has a little fan built in that vents it outside the trailer. Trust me, my wife would be the FIRST to let you know if it smelled.

We use this toilet. No smell. Average 14 flushes. Replaced the battery once.
These are all very good points and will be helpful. I hope at some point they make a new version with a liquid diversion
