Great job on the activation and the video editing! I've used a 17' whip for the majority of my activations. I think you caught me with a rare straight key hunt. I recommend looking up the POTAPreformer antenna. It's basically what you are using but has 2 tuned elevated radials and adds a choke at the feed point. You can adjust the whip length for a 1/4 vertical 20m-6m. I use cheap electric fence posts from Lowes to support the ends of the radials. KJ6ER has a really nice PDF about the benefits of this antenna.
Thanks Tim, I thought it sounded like you were on a straight key. Thanks for the antenna info. I have a LDG choke I could use at the feed point. I should try that. This was my first time using the whip like this. I don't even know if the radials are helping where it's on top of the metal van(?), but something in my head tells me that verticals are supposed to have radials. LOL I got a wolf river coil a couple weeks ago to hopefully get a whip on 40m for some night activations. (Stoopid job keeps getting in the way of daytime fun stuff.) I set it up to check with the VNA that it would tune (it did fine), but I haven't tried activating with it on 40 yet.
Thanks Scott. Very nicely produced video. Thanks for sharing the link. Not too bad for two Scotts 600 miles apart, each with 20W G-90s! Scott Stribrny WB9CJC
Thanks Matt. I've used a lot of other activation videos for copy practice and to get and idea of what to expect. Hopefully someone can get some good out of this one too. Thanks for hunting! 73.
Great job Scott. Thanks for letting me know about this and thanks for the QSO. 73, Jim
Thanks Jim. I appreciate you hunting! 73
No problem. I subscribed to your channel and I will be listening for you. Hopefully we have some more QSO's in the future. 73
