    Glad to see you posting so much again! Love the quality and understated nature of your videos. I hate the term, but there's a certain ASMR attribute that I love. I was trying to get on your website to purchase the coffee scoops but it doesn't seem to be working. Any idea when it will be back online.

    Nice video, John! Did you harden the striking end? I was surprised to see you heat it up and quench the back. I am unfamiliar with A33 so maybe the process is different?

    • @rigoniironworks
      @rigoniironworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I ended up heating it to red, not as high as the front, then quenched. If it starts cracking, I'll soften it back.

    • @bcc2a
      @bcc2a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Am I confused? I thought A33 is an air hardening steel.

    • @mckutzy
      @mckutzy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bcc2a It apparently is a water quench tool steel..requires no tempering after.... but im not sure off hand how hard it gets as its used in these hotcut and punch tools with out no ill effects of being reheated by the work...

    As always, great clean work. I checked the comments before asking. Not a word. Flutagon or Atlantic 33. I am aware of its properties. It yields well to the hammer. But I see no benefit over H13. I have no problem with the cost. What is the advantage of it? Convince me and I’ll buy some tomorrow.

    • @rigoniironworks
      @rigoniironworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't messed with it enough, both work well for me. A33 has this linear crack theme Ive been seeing on occasion.

    • @killerkane1957
      @killerkane1957 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rigoniironworks oh wow. Cracking. You think it’s temperature related? Or some sort of shock due to its self hardening characteristics? Your approach does not seem to overwork the material. That is interesting. I’ll stick with H13. Thank you!
