Lisa Garland's (literally) bloody transformation, along with the eerie song appropriately titled "Lisa's Theme", was definitely the most emotional cutscene for me in Silent Hill. To this day, I still get the chills when I listen to it and my mind keeps re-living the images.
Definitely a standout moment from the first game! It's creepy how her transformation was held off until she recognized that she was just like the others...
Oddly enough the song only consists of very few instruments. She helps you out no question and witnessing her existential crisis firsthand in real time but there is nothing you can do to help is dooming. Was really cool to see her still make an appearance in the movie though. That quick five to ten seconds is my favorite scene in the entire movie.
This game scared the shit out of me when i was younger. I never played any other silent hill games due to the first one freaking me out so bad. Now i kinda want to restart playing them.
Not every series received The Mortal Kombat Treatment. I thought the series was dead after Midway got bankruptcy but after having been purchased by DC, It got revived.

People have said that Capcom made multiple attempts to buy the IPs of Silent Hill and Metal Gear but Konami refused. I do not know how true this claim is, but if it really did happen then I have no doubt Konami refused to sell the rights to its games to milk those franchises with slot machines.
Hey, I thought this was a great vid. I've been getting myself back into both the Silent Hill AND Resident Evil mythologies recently, and I really enjoy the commentary and explanations and history behind games like this. Nice work :)
One of the developer did confirm that the ending where cybil dies but harry escapes with the baby is canon, in an interview; although when he looked back at that, he wished that the one where cybil survives and makes it out with harry was canon.
One thing that I think it's worth mentioning here is the fact that some things in earlier versions of this game were misintepretated, badly translated in EU version mainly, which lead to increased difficulty when trying to solve some puzzles (Remember the piano?? that's the most famous one...) Other than that, the "Newspaper from 7 years ago", which usually didn't appear in US version gameplay, despite the fact that it is present in all the retail editions of the game... PS: Nice work! I really liked that you talked about the historical backgrond of the town...

Getting his account and videos flagged are just another example of the long, ongoing issue with TH-cam and advertisers. You'd "think" they'd figure it out by doing something easy like, ask their advertisers the simple question "what type of content are you okay with having your ads played with?" But then TH-cam would probably lose .0000001% of their profits by "limiting" ads in that fashion. *cough*

There were insect monsters because Alessa didn't like insects. I learned in Ann Rice's channel that the fear of insects is often related to experiences of being raped, both in literature and in life (or something like that, I don't remember clearly). The theme of sex is incorporated in the game in such a subtle way.
This video prompted me to run my demo CD from original MGS for the second time in 21 years, now on the ps3. After the initial shock that it still works, I am quite impressed with the graphics, not so much with the combat: it takes about a full second of delay to actually start the attack animation. Also, the cutscene at the dinner is terrible, people who likes to make fun of OG Resident evil should take a look at it.
But the bad combat works for silent hill... it's no worse than resident evil. Which makes no sense as the characters in resident evil are trained special operatives, harry Mason is just a guy. So the poor combat adds to the fear and realism. Just my opinion of course

This is the only "Silent Hill" I ever managed to finish. I played "Silent Hill 3" and "Homecoming", but work has been in the way. Never finished either. I need to buy a Playstation 2 and catch. The first 4 games look entertaining. It won't quite be the same as if I'd played them as a kid since, after all these years, I've long know their stories, but still... Oh, and I got the bad, it was all a dream had while unconscious in a car wreck, ending.
No game ever again scared me so much like Silent Hill. Playing the second part right now, it's not tahta scary anymore, but I am 20 years older and I can also remember the most dangerous parts. Although, the atmosphere and story still hits me.

Also the hyperblaster have three strength levels depend how your accuracy was red-yellow-green, if your accuracy with ranged weapons is high in your last game (98-100%) and have a good amount of stars, then you could have a "green laser" hyperblaster in the next game, which have the same power of the rifle, normally you get the red hyperblaster shown in video, but that hyper only have the power of a normal pistol. The same thing happen in SH2 but with the Spray-killer-bug can: ending the game with high score, next time you get different spray can, but this time is not about power but about what kind of monsters the spray can kill in one shot: one spray to kill bug one hit, other to kill spitters, i think other for nurses etc. Also a Namco pistol work to unlock the hyperblaster since the beginning connecting in the second port, but you receive the "normal" red hyper

We need more videos like this, I've been confused by Silent Hill for YEARS now... But i think you got a little detail off at 16:53: You say its because she was "infected" but didn't know it, and upon realization Lisa starts to "melt", basically. If this were the case then she'd be transforming into evil nurse and trying to kill protagonist (forgot his name, nearly said James, though since he is unwittingly working for Dhalia, I guess he is antagonist). But that is not what happens, she starts to melt and get all weird, but is asking pro/antagonist for comfort. I think the real case is that she was a fake, built by good Alessa, as part of the fake Silent Hill she sent pro/antagonist into to keep him from finding her and reuniting her with herself (lol). She starts to melt because flaurous stopped good Alessa from maintaining fake silent hill to hide in, which means fake silent hill and all its fake characters start to melt too. Notice how all the physics and weird teleportation get far "worse" in the latter portion of the game? All of Fake Silent Hill is unraveling, and Lisa, being a part of that, unravels too.

Great video! I am a huge fan of the Silent Hill series! Were did u get this version of Silent Hill, shown in your video? Even though it's an old game, the graphics look polished and I'd like to play this "HD" version that u presented
Hello! I used RetroArch and PCSX (emulators). While using PCSX the models are like...shivering a lot. But the whole experience is much more stable than on RetroArch. On the other hand, RetroArch gives you much smoother movement of 3D models in the game, but during my walkthrough, I just couldn't pass several levels, because the game would simply crash or not show the game at all. So, I used RetroArch as the main emulator, and if I couldn't pass a segment, I would transfer the saved game to PCSX, pass the segment, save again, transfer the saved game back to RetroArch and continue playing. :D All in all, if you want to play the game without crashing and all that headache, I recommend you to use PCSX. You can even use a controller if you're on Windows 10 and have Xbox One controller or Dualshock 4 (for Dualshock use the program called DS4Windows).
Robert Ramsey apparently a mock demo made by an American programmer a few years ago got a few Konami employees hyped to make the types of games they used to, but we haven’t really seen anything come of it
Small nitpick but you strike me as a guy who likes perfection: It's not THE Old Silent Hill--just Old Silent Hill. You'd never say "The Old London" for example, or "The Old Town--just Old Town."
Would be awesome if the first four Silent Hill games all got PROPER HD remakes or remasters. I'd pay good money for it, so long as it isn't a mess like the HD Collection was.

What emulator did you use for the game play, and how did you get the game to look so good? Like, non jaggy and graphics moving all around and stuff? :)
I used RetroArch and ePSXe. Most of the video was recorded with RetroArch, but in some placed it glitched, so I had to load the save file in ePSXe, pass a certain segment, re-upload save to RetroArch and continue playing.

Care to share your settings or plugins you may have used to make the graphics not so wobbly and the textures smooth like that? :) Thanks in advance and thanks for the video! Man this is great content. I’m a big pussy so I never played it but thought the lore was interesting. Love your accent and your vocabulary is amazing. You have better vocabulary than some of my friends that were born in the US lol.
What about the PC port that was only available in Asia territories? I seen it in a friend's house, it was not an emulator as I seen the file structure just as any PC game. Was that an unofficial port? Edit: I'm searching and can't find any information, but I garantee you that I seen the game running without any emulator and it was on a folder with the game files and an .exe, only if this friend made some trickery to deceive me and another friend who was together on that day.
This is a good question. Well, they work on different levels. RE is more about physical deformation and gore. First Silent Hill games work on a more psychological level. The most of the monsters resemble human beings, but they are not human, almost all of them have their place in the story and reason to be there. The events on SH4 could happen to any of us. I cannot say for sure. For example, I'm now working on Fatal Frame series. And I played them when I was little. But I couldn't finish them, because I was too scared 😨 Many things are personal and subjective.

Hunter Rose silent hill’s soundtrack in general will always give me chills. Something about it is calming yet unsettling. I love it.

Notice how all the physics and weird teleportation get far "worse" in the latter portion of the game? All of Fake Silent Hill is unraveling, and Lisa, being a part of that, unravels too.

Hello! I used RetroArch and PCSX (emulators). While using PCSX the models are like...shivering a lot. But the whole experience is much more stable than on RetroArch. On the other hand, RetroArch gives you much smoother movement of 3D models in the game, but during my walkthrough, I just couldn't pass several levels, because the game would simply crash or not show the game at all. So, I used RetroArch as the main emulator, and if I couldn't pass a segment, I would transfer the saved game to PCSX, pass the segment, save again, transfer the saved game back to RetroArch and continue playing. :D
All in all, if you want to play the game without crashing and all that headache, I recommend you to use PCSX. You can even use a controller if you're on Windows 10 and have Xbox One controller or Dualshock 4 (for Dualshock use the program called DS4Windows).

What emulator did you use for the game play, and how did you get the game to look so good? Like, non jaggy and graphics moving all around and stuff? :)
I used RetroArch and ePSXe. Most of the video was recorded with RetroArch, but in some placed it glitched, so I had to load the save file in ePSXe, pass a certain segment, re-upload save to RetroArch and continue playing.

Care to share your settings or plugins you may have used to make the graphics not so wobbly and the textures smooth like that? :) Thanks in advance and thanks for the video! I tend to use ePSXe myself but wondering how it would be using RetroArch.

What about the PC port that was only available in Asia territories? I seen it in a friend's house, it was not an emulator as I seen the file structure just as any PC game. Was that an unofficial port?
Edit: I'm searching and can't find any information, but I garantee you that I seen the game running without any emulator and it was on a folder with the game files and an .exe, only if this friend made some trickery to deceive me and another friend who was together on that day.

This is a good question. Well, they work on different levels. RE is more about physical deformation and gore. First Silent Hill games work on a more psychological level. The most of the monsters resemble human beings, but they are not human, almost all of them have their place in the story and reason to be there. The events on SH4 could happen to any of us. I cannot say for sure. For example, I'm now working on Fatal Frame series. And I played them when I was little. But I couldn't finish them, because I was too scared 😨 Many things are personal and subjective.
