Thank you very much for this very interesting video presentation, it is great to see and hear these buses. They were actually a very impressive bus, so many great things in them, such as the air suspension, great heating system and windows that did not steam up. You are to be commended for making these video presentations, they are very much appreciated.
Textbook! Great video and great sounds, brings back memories as a child sat on in long side seat sometimes, they were so spacious all round especially at the front sliding and the long brown leather seat! :-)
Ah I'm from Northern Ireland but my dad was from Sussex but his family moved to Hampshire and my dad was a bus driver for hants and Dorset in the 70s he also drove for Ulster bus while with ulster bus he drove Layland Lapperds and Bristol REs
What a Beautiful Sound, I miss the days these Nationals used to be a Normal sight on the Roads of Britain and a few other countries. Absolutely Love these old Girls especially in United Counties Green and Luton and Dunstable Red & Cream & Yellow and Blue.
Get that speedo fixed. They were a lovely bus to drive, once you got used to the body roll, the air suspension was a lot softer than the old bristol REs on road springs.
Please tell us how to, I would be very glad to hear of a solution - it is a common fault with Nationals with the part that fails now being long obsolete (even 20 years ago when I first bought a National with the same problem) and the expert who rebuilt the engine amongst other things on her before I bought her back has been unable to find a modern equivalent to make a repair and replacement with.
@@antpoulton1990 Use a GPS Speedo. Many bus companies here in Oz use this one. It's Aussie made and I bought one for my car as it sits higher. I love it. www.bogaard.com.au/digital-speedometers/about-ds/
@@antpoulton1990 I believe that the Suburban Nationals were commonly fitted with Lucas Kienzle Tachograph speedos from new. These were still fitted until at least 2006. Might that be an option?
What's happened to this bus ? On the video the previous owner made it was very quiet no rattles like it has now I know these nationals did have rattles but not this one had it fallen into disrepair ? Good to see it again though bring it to the south east bus show in maidstone I think it's in April this year.
Most of that rattling was down to loose stuff on the seats or on the luggage racks although there is one irritating rattle we're been unable to track down although pretty sure its somewhere on one of the tip up seats.

Lovely sound!
Back to childhood in an instant, part of my soul the sound of a 510. Would love to drive or just ride on one again.

Never seen a National with luggage racks before.
That steering wheel is thin as a raw spaghetti noodle!
