Linda Simpson and The Drag Explosion | CUNY TV Digital Series: Merlin’s People Like Me!

CUNY TV and Merlin’s People Like Me! celebrate Pride 2022, with our special guest, Linda Simpson, a chronicler of the 1980s and 90s Downtown Night Life Scene centered around the famed Pyramid Club. We met up for the interview at the Bureau of General Services--Queer Division, where we found our copy of The Drag Explosion, located in The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center on West 13th Street, in New York City.
The Drag Explosion was originally imagined as a slide show and has turned into a Coffee Table Book must have, with page after page of photos from a legendary time in the New York City Drag Scene.
It all began when Linda Simpson purchased an inexpensive drug store camera and began taking photos of friends who inhabited her world - Lady Bunny, Sweetie Nyc, Mona Foot, Tabboo, RuPaul and many others jump off the pages of The Drag Explosion, becoming a portal to another time while introducing us to the Night Life personalities that helped create the drag scene we see today.
