  • This is a build of the 2016 Merit International release of the IJN Mikasa-1905 in 1/200 (Kit # 62004). Detail sets used are the Pontos Models Detail Set 23008F1, which is supplemented with the MK1 Design Deluxe Detail Set MD-20017. This is my 1st plastic ship so a lot of the techniques shown are being done for the first time.
In this video I continue working on attaching more of the details. These include the anchor shelves and details, the torpedo net boom pivot points, the rear hatches and the kit side davits.

What a great step foreward! Thanks fore sharing your ideas.
Little gibt due to the brass: what you could do against the later and silently upcoming fingerprints on the large brass areas (anchor rests) is vinegar on a cottonbutt to clean them up. This die to these fingerprints will appear after some time and may look to you through the primer under the colouring. You c/should do this to all viewable brassparts before covering with clear colour - this is a tip from the championship winner W. Mondfeld to deal with copper plating in sailing ships (book: The historical shipmodel) Hth, Chris

Thanks for watching and the tip. I believe you can also soak the parts in vinegar to 'etch' the brass providing a 'key' for the paint.

@@plungingfirescalemodeling2441 It may depend on the delution in %... as so often 😉 But you can also make use of terpentine but it might harming the plastic of the kit too much to risk it.
