As far as I can recall Seth knows how to pronounce Roiling Vortex. Where he's getting the 't' in Monstrous Vortext is a secret known only to him and the magic gods
@@Noah_eotlrI am pretty sure that most of Seth’s mispronunciations are half trolling half real it’s kinda he knows he struggles a bit so why not go all way with it for that sweet engagement
@@mageius Not a ball, doesnt get to swing on 3 mana, doesnt get discovered with monstrous vortex, no trample or haste, bad card and this deck doesnt fit it.
@JohnDirtySpleen It's more about the effect and stat line. Remember, it evokes for 3, deals 6 damage to a creature when it leaves play. I'll concede that it's not truly a Ball, but you can use it more as removal that triggers Vortex. Vortex is on cast, so the evoke cost is why it's worth it.
Reminds me of a Mono Red deck I had a long time ago, that Ball Lightning was the core, but also all the other "Honorable Balls" in red at the time. Spark Elemental, Hellspark, and there was one other, stacking with all the cheap burn I could find. Stole quite a few games with that old deck, as people just didn't know how to react. Good times!
And here's where not knowing a card exits hurts: Spitebellows If you're gonna do this type of deck this card is a must. It's originally from Morningtide so is modern legal and you can evoke it for 1RR. Basically a 6/1 that deals 6 damage to something on ETB. It's normal cost may be 5 and a R but who cares you'll use it as a kill spell while triggers the enchantment. Edit: it's on leaves play not ETB but the evoke cost is what I mean.
About 52:25 in, I heard a hilarious Seth-ism: "I think we attack *before* combat..." Hilarious deck is hilarious. Imagine if this deck actually got tuned to become good!
From a bit of scrolling I found a lot of comments pointing out that Keruga would by a viable companion with some minor modifications. From what I can tell, Scion of Draco (and the sideboard crab) is also the only card preventing Kaheera from being an option.
Would it be worth getting beanstalk giant or beanstalk wurm in this deck? it seems like adding some ramp to get to the combo a turn or two sooner might make it a lot more consistent, and because they are dual mode, you don't have to worry about them messing up the monstrous ball combo
Hell yeah! I’m doing this on arena too, 4 Phlages and tons of treasures from Gadrak to close out the game with a Magma Opus. Not very competitive but so much fun when it works!
Seth's "vortext" reminds me of that episode of Critical Role: Narrative Telephone where Liam says "wald hexe", but over time it gets misheard as "the Vortex".
I waited the whole time for Seth to set off his mass summoning, getting all excited and declare his attack with all "12 Ball Lighnings" only for an opponent with 1 untapped land to cast a fog like Darkness. With all 12 "Ball Lightnings" being sacrificed at the end of the turn that would have been a one mana instant reversal of the game. Unfortunately it did not happen... I would have loved to see the instant change in his facial expressions.
I'd play Beanstalk Wurm in this deck as an attempt to speed the gameplan up a turn - its adventure is explore so you can theoretically hit 4 lands on turn 3 Maybe also more split/aftermath cards? You can actually get some counters or interaction in on the early turns beyond bedeck
I know we want to be in on Ball Lightnings, but this deck has room for improvement while keeping the idea intact. The biggest note is that this version isn't playing with the restriction properly - it's not that you can't play any spells with mana value 3 or less outside Ball Lightning variants, you just can't play anything at three mana that won't trigger Monstrous Vortex or anything cheaper. That might seem like not a big deal, but that means this version of the deck isn't playing the following interesting card: Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury Phlage to replace Groundbreaker is massive, since Phlage + Leyline Binding + Leyline of the Guildpact at 4 each is enough white cards to support playing Solitude instead of Trumpeting Carnosaur while also making the deck's mana wayyyy less intense since you only at most need triple red, one white on turn 2 [for Leyline Binding], one black on turn 3 for Lightning Skelemental, and one green on turn 4 for Monstrous Vortex. Dead // Gone and Fire // Ice are also interesting choices for the deck, but not nearly as big a deal as Phlage + Solitude.
I still think that a line like "You can only have one copy of the ONE ring in your deck" would be perfectly fine for the one ring. Still be busted, but you would run into the "play another one ring" problem. Or at least that the new ring gains the counters of the old ring.
I play a 10 pin balling deck in modern. You need to be able recur your threats constantly. Unfortunately relying on vortex is a massive glass cannon. I do like the addition of scion though.
Arboreal Grazer? I think is the name. One mana 0/3 that when it ETB's you put a land into play tapped. That would speed the deck up that one turn that he needed
I think upgrades can be done with switching groundbreaker for arc runner and go down go like two them and play phlage. Makes the mana essier and perhaps leds painful, and phlage does add to the removal suite
Glad you've had balls to keep the suggested deck name in the spoiler video comments. The lack of 2 mana adventure ramp spells hurts, in a lot of matches it felt like a single turn difference
I feel like this deck would be both better and more dedicated to the ball lightning theme if you took out the Draco/Leyline package in exchange for a ramp package to play Monstrous Vortex and ball lightnings sooner, possibly with arbor elf/utopia sprawl and/or Noble/ Ignoble Hierarch. Cavern of Souls might be a consideration as well
I really like Rise/Fall in the sideboard, and honestly maybe in the main deck at this point of the meta. Spitebellows is also a good include against Nadu and other creature centric combos.
According to Magic Deck Naming Conventions, this deck can also be called "12 Balls"
12 Ball
I would call this Chain Ball but 12 ball sounds pretty good as well 😂
"What deck do you play?"
"Oops 12 balls"
Just shorten it to 6 Guys
@@Zadysseus "oops all balls"

Where he keeps getting the mispronunciations is a mystery. This one is pretty far out there.
Part of me thinks he’s doing it on purpose at this point. The other part is dead.
shoutout to the match 2 opponent who let the combo and the hit play out for the content

He does it with Roiling Vortex(t), too
Tbf, English is a dumb language. Let him have fun with it.
Spark Trooper looks on sadly from the window as his friends all get to play outside but he has to stay home because he cost 4.
Lovestruck Beast could be a useful card in this deck. It works with the combo, gives you a one drop, and can dodge discard to start the cascading
I was thinking beanstalk Wurm and Kellan, Inquisitive prodigy for a bit of ramp myself
Golly gee that One Ring card sure does seem like a *LOT* of fun to play against.

All of the titans would work, you're right. I suspect there isn't space? Maybe? Though Phlage could swap in for the carnosaurs
