Hey... Love your channel. I picked up my crossbow after a long layoff. My expectation was to go through a bit of a learning curve. No curve... I started to shoot a pellet gun regularly about 6 months ago. The type of shooting is called "Hunter Field Target". With a pellet gun you can take hundreds and hundreds of shots and do so daily. The skills that transfer to crossbow hunting are. 1. using a scope to lock on to the target. 2. holding the rifle steady in a seated, prone and standing position. 3. using the scope to "range" the target. 4. aiming "small" The targets are 1/2 - 1/8 inch at a range of 10 - 50 yards. You and your daughter might want to check into it. I appreciate all the help you have provided by making great video. Thanks again : )
Genevieve loves our Gamo air rifle, she's a squirrel killer! This is a good tip, though, helps lighten the load on stressed crossbow limbs for a lot of folks.
Congragufreakulations, what a story! I was really nervous my first time and I was using a rifle. I’m almost 52 and you’re right, as we age it gets harder to hunt far from home. Much respect to you from Alaska. Your channel is better than the hunting shows on television.
Ritch my wife children and i have been watching you for years just wanted to say we truly appreciate and enjoy the content its a great family show when we are not out in the field hunting….well my kids watch you in the blind from time to time as well…
Hi, just wanted you to know. My sister watched your video on where to shoot a deer, the triangle. I took her out opening day Saturday here in Texas. 30 mins on the stand, she nailed her first ever deer, perfect shot. Went through one lung and nicked the spine and the deer went down where it was standing..she is 67. She wanted me to thank you for the great video!! Thanks!!!
Great Job for Rich and Bunjie !!! I as a Maine resident and Bow hunter welcome experienced hunters to experience our rocky and hilly forest. I am glad for you and am sure your daughter will enjoy mounting it.
Watched the bear hunt a second time. The brief drone footage really captures the beauty of that area of Maine. You have hunted some amazing places last 2 years.
Great video and narration, Rich. At times, I felt like I was right there with ya'. I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you described. Congrats on getting the job done, and a fine bear, at that.
Congrats on a nice bear Rich!! I felt like I was there with you. You are a great story teller. That little bit of movement was the difference between a quick kill and a longer search. The long shot guys should watch this and see what little movement it takes to make you question your shot. Again congrats and thank you for sharing.
Great bear hunt story, Rich! Look forward to your videos after discovering your tremendous skill in adventurous storytelling in your book “Death by Bungie”. What a great read. New to bow hunting this year after getting the required exemption due to my rotator cuff injury here in ND. Your informative tips have been a great bonus to my crossbow skill. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Rich! I'm so glad I found you! I just started hunting! Did my first two sits with a buddy 3&4 days ago... With rifles, but I just bought my first crossbow and am excited to get out there alone with it. Your videos are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. You're so articulate and informative, they are a pleasure to listen to. I almost bought your crossbow, used off a guy, but he quoted 50 bucks more than it sold for off the shelf. I ended up getting a CenterPoint sniper for more than half off, barely used. Been watching where to shoot, tree stand vs blind, and some other ones. I've got the reticle zeroed at 20 yards for a bullseye.
I'm moving to one of the prime hunting area's in Canada in four weeks. Got 2 deer tags, a wolf tag and a bear tag. Bought a 21 acres property, long and skinny.......life is going to be good despite this covid bs. Can't wait for the rest of your videos.
Congratulations Rich on a Maine bear. Im from Maine and have taken 4, 2 with Xbow,1 with Compound and 1 with Rifle all exciting hunts such as yours. I enjoy your channel and especially liked the episodes on ground blind hunting, one easy method we use in the dense woods in Maine is to make a ground blind using 50lb fishing line strung horizontal between trees and then cut brows or limbs and place on the horizional lines to form our blind, easy to move branches for shots or back drops. Works slick and easy to set up on the move. Good Luck and if you ever come to Maine let me know. Ex caliber Micro 355 works excellent with 100g Grim Reapers
Great video, exciting hunt, really good story. You have entered the list of Bear Stalkers! It is quite an ordeal to be the one sitting patiently under all those adverse wilderness conditions and be the one to fatally wound a bear at all; you were the one who stuck him with the arrow, and with your team you were able to recover the animal. Congratulations. Bunjie has done us all proud.
Congratulations on your first Maine black bear. At least now you have a better understanding of the woods that I hunt for deer and Bear every season. It's amazing to think thousand pound moose walk through those woods every year!! Jackman, Greenville area??
Congrats!!!!! Been waiting for this video!!!! BTW you are NOT OLD....im 2 years older then you.....you have many good years left in the tank. Barring any disease or major injuries....you can still get after it into your 70's....possibly longer...and if your daughter stays into it...she can help you out like I did for my late father and my Boys will do for me. Once again CONGRATS!!!!!! and good luck this coming season.
Just got my second bear. Like you the Guide finished the first. This year I did it on my own...pass through and death moan. No blood trail. The Guide I was using found the bear. Definitely an intense experience..... I love it.
Good telling. Been there done that in Maine. For me the one bear I saw was past last light. Couldn't get a shot. My first daytime sighting of a bear was in New Jersey on state land. Bummer that NJ has outlawed. That will change again.
Congratulations Rich on your first black bear. A successful Maine bear hunt is one to remember forever. (Edit) What a great story! You had me on the edge of my seat at the end. Take care Donut Dan
Just found your videos today. This one had me on the edge of my seat haha. Congratulations on your trophy bear! I just bought a crossbow, never shot one, so I’m here to learn more. Thank you for making that possible.
Great story, Rich. Loved the whole video and I am so happy for you. Here in Oklahoma the season starts in 6 days. We have continuous crossbow until Jan 15.
Congrats on your first bear Rich! Great story. 👍 Been there on the emotional roller-coaster of uncertainty after a shot. Not a good feeling but glad it worked out for you brother. Great job!
Great video thank you Rich that your first Bear under your belt the pressure is now off in the future. Please consider waiting longer before shooting , and smaller Brodhead for a total lung passed through. They only go 20 yards or s with double long pass through. Makes for a great recovery. Unlike Deer when bears get hit they just get bumped a short distance and reassess the situation by then they feel like a dirt nap and take one.👍
Nice video bud...I'm putting in my points together on a guided hunt here in a few years with my buddies in mn ...I got a new KI Ripper 425 stoked to take it up north for bear
Congratulations on your bear. They are tuff animals, glad you got it. They are one of the best-tasting animals as well. Maine North Woods Hunter (Shane) Good Hunting!
Hello Rich. May I ask ? is the bear hunting to thin the population to keep it strong ? I only hunt to feed me and my family. I have hunted to keep populations strong and for pest control. Do you eat the bear meat ?
Congratulations! Great story telling! Bears are thick as flies here in NJ. No hope for a hunt as long as our governor keeps ignoring the science. All hail Bungie (sheesh, there I go again with the all hail thing!)
In most states u gotta be licensed to use a dog to track. Some u don't! The dogs are universal so can be used for deer and bear. In NY I am legally allowed to track deer and bear with my dog and carry my pistol at night. Congratulations on the bear! Love the videos I been watching alot lately! Keep it up
it is like a plot twist in a epic novel. Unfortunately I have not bear hunted since the pandemic.... I like hunting from ground blinds, very effective! I am sure that bear would have been dead as door nail if you gave it an over night as we sometimes do in Canada in a similar scenario. We have never gone in with a gun with our particular outfitter.
I just wanted to get a bear with the Original Bunjie before I retired it, hence the Unfinished Business. These were 20 yard shots, so all good for that.
Great video thank you Rich your first bear under your belt the pressure is now off for a future bear hunts. Please consider waiting and enjoying the bear before shooting. Some sows don’t bring their Cubs out right away. I’ve experienced this myself. A broadside double lung shot kills fast. Unlike deer , bears run a few yards and stop assess their situation and usually stop traveling. This makes for short recovery. Consider smaller broadhead for a full pass-through over a big broad head with no pass-through. Look forward to the next video Richard. Congratulations

Thanks been pretty lucky, I know it
Great video, and great story… I can see how much that meant to you. So happy it worked out.
Love it. That is what it is all about. Congrats.
Rich, thank you for sharing. Awesome video and I appreciate the honesty commentary.
Way to go Rich! That had to be an emotional roller coaster! Glad it all came together for you. All hail Bunjie!

Great video and narration, Rich. At times, I felt like I was right there with ya'. I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you described. Congrats on getting the job done, and a fine bear, at that.
Awesome!! Congratulations sir!! And thanks to ole Blue for the track job.

Yeah and this was 20 yards...movement was not in response to string but still there was movement affecting shot for sure

Best of luck to you out there, thanks for this!

Emotional rollercoaster. Exactly how I describe hunting to people that don't hunt lol. Congrats on the Bear!

Is your filming of your videos changing due to the new censoring regulation to post on TH-cam?
Not really

I may have missed something in previous video? Why Bunjie 1 and not Bunjie 2? Did Gen have Bunjie 2 because of Bunjie Jr broken limb?
I just wanted to get a bear with the Original Bunjie before I retired it, hence the Unfinished Business. These were 20 yard shots, so all good for that.
