We don’t have frosts here in Costa Rica, but we do use Saint Augustine grass. Perhaps, would watering before the frost could have helped to prevent your turf from burning?
I have some spots in my yard that have no grass...dogs/wildlife have a few favorite spots so it’s just dirt. Should I lay any type of soil down before fertilizing?
The St Augustine grass will spread to those areas if you keep it fertilize and watered. If you wanted to make it nicer quicker, then you could buy pieces of sod and dig out the ground a little to put it in, so it is level
Hey there, thanks for watching! I always use Milorganite first and then a week later I use the weed killer. I like to give my lawn a good boost with the Milorganite before I use the weed killer... the weed killer won't hurt your lawn but it can still stress it if the lawn is not in great condition.
I live in Laredo and my lawn is almost exactly like yours ... I was bummed out after the freeze but I see so many green plus slowly coming out of the frost burned parts. I did; however, panic perhaps too soon. Two weeks after the freeze in mid February I put a 15-5-10 weed n feed from wal mart brand (expert) at a 5 setting. I think it was too soon but it didn’t harm it. I then added some 10-10-10 today with a good waterin afterwards on the advice of someone who landscapes. It’s slow release, but is that ok? I was told it wouldn’t harm my lawn ..But I’m gonna start using milorganite. Love your Channel!!
Thank you very much for watching and commenting, I am glad you enjoy my videos; it really makes me happy to know that I can help people. Sooooo, please don't use weed n feed products (that was bad advice in my opinion and yes you did do it a little soon but I am glad it did not hurt your lawn). The 10-10-10 sounds a lot better b/c it is slow release but without knowing what it is I cant comment to much on it, except that I am glad it was slow release because that is to soon to add another fertilizer after your initial one.. if it would not have been slow release then it would have probably burned the lawn. I definitely prefer Milorganite as it works really well on our lawn, so many other fertilizers are not made and do not work as well for St Augustine grass. You do want to wait 2 months until you apply it now though, since you already used something else. And then if during the year you think your lawn might need some extra help greening up; then use some Ironite (just iron to green it up).
Great video, quick question I just fertilized my lawn this past Sunday using miracle gro lawn food, would you know how long I should wait before applying milorganite?
So Miracle Grow is honestly a really bad fertilizer for St Augustine grass and b/c it is synthetic fertilizer, it doesn't do any long term benefits for your grass, but that also means that you don't have to wait as long to apply a new fertilizer. I would wait a month though, at least 4 weeks.
@@thesecretgarden6948 good to know, I have only once used milorginite but was easy to apply and didn’t burn my grass, that’s why I used the miracle gro I didn’t want to use something that would burn my grass
Hello, I'm very new to St. Augustine and also new to being a home owner. I'm seeing your video today 7-24-21 do you recommend to put something down on the grass next month or the following?
Also congratulations on being a homeowner and I am glad that you are trying to take care of your new grass. I will be here if you have anymore questions or need help. Saint Augustine grass can be difficult but it can also be very beautiful
If I just put down 10-10-10 how long do I wait to put down milo ? Also can you make a pdf calendar schedule with when to apply certain products for St Aug grass ?
You will want to wait 8 weeks before you put the Milorganite down since you just applied another fertilizer. Sorry I do not have a calendar like that made b/c I have not seen the need for it. The only thing that you need to apply in a regular pattern is the Milorganite (per the schedule that I described in the video). You do not need to apply weed control, ironite, or other products to your lawn on a certain schedule but instead, whenever you see that you need it. If you see weeds starting to come up, then you can apply the weedkiller to the weeds specifically. If in the summer your lawn is not looking as green as it should, then you can apply the Ironite to green it up. If you get a fungus then you can apply a fungacide. You want to treat specific issues on your lawn, not just apply random products to your lawn that you might not need. The only exceptions to that is if you want to use a pre-emergent in the spring to prevent weeds (if you have had an issue with a lot of weeds) or if you want to apply a product to prevent diseases or fungus on your lawn (in early summer) if you have had those issues in the past. Everyone's lawn is different and needs to be treated differently.
Have you looked at Lowes? It can be hard to find b/c there are so many fertilizers but if you use the Lowes App or go to their website then it will tell you what shelf and exact location it is at.. Let me know if that works for you or not.

So what is the best feed for St.Augustine grass? I’m looking for one that feeds and also kills weeds? My lawn lately has gotten a lot of weeds
So you use the milo 4 times and the power grown 2 times for the winter months?

Fellow Texan here. Should I use weed killer first then malorginate? Or malo first?

How much lbs of milo do you apply per application?
It depends on how much sqft you are covering. I have 1400 sqft of st Augustine grass so I’m using half the bag per application, which is 16 lbs
What we had in texas was not a frost. It was a deep freeze.
Lol, true
Hello, I'm very new to St. Augustine and also new to being a home owner. I'm seeing your video today 7-24-21 do you recommend to put something down on the grass next month or the following?
You should go ahead and use the normal fertilizer now so that in three months you can do the winterization fertilizer.
Also congratulations on being a homeowner and I am glad that you are trying to take care of your new grass. I will be here if you have anymore questions or need help. Saint Augustine grass can be difficult but it can also be very beautiful
