If you ever, and I mean ever consider buying a shiny metal of any type for some kind of protection for your buying power, only buy gold. Silver is a hyper manipulated market. Consider instead buying things that are much more finite. Gold, bitcoin, real estate. All else is going to zeroe because of government fiat inflation. All three of those assets only protect you if we still have a civilized society going into the future. You may want to also invest in canned food, water storage, personal defense and your physical and spiritual health
I agree with all you say and try to practice the same. Silver (and the white metals in general) only represent discounted gold to me. I compound ounces of gold by moving from gold to silver and back to gold as cycles dictate. Silver's manipulated nature and its volatility are what provide me the gains. Trust me, I am a gold bug.
