    Thanks Joe,
    Great stuff.
In Jerusalem there is an orchard that is not irrigated at all and everything is great there. it could be that since the figs are growing on a mountain it acts as a water reservoir.
Anyhow even there the weeds that grow in the spring are used as mulch after they are ripped off the ground by the mower.

Thanks for your great video. I have space for a fig tree. Which one do you recommend? VBD or Breba?

The Breba is the first crop of the VDB. Grows on last year's wood. Main crop grows on current years wood. Most figs are like this.

    Another fabulous video Joe.
How does VDB respond to pruning and pinching?

Thanks Just One More Fruits! I don't pinch the growth on my fig trees. We have a long growing season here in AZ. Pinching is useful when the growing season is shorter. Pinching encourages early fruit production and branching, But I think it limits the overall growth potential for the tree for that year. I feel like my growing season is long enough that trees will produce plenty of fruit without having to sacrifice growth. I pruned the VdB back two winters in a row a few years back and the tree has held a bush-like shape ever since. Another grower told me that he prunes his VdB back pretty low in the winter and it produces more growth and fruit the following year.
