@@mrrobbdrums4775 I’m so glad you liked my comment. Please forgive my dalliance here - my former instructor was always up me about how I anally play songs exactly to the original. He said the beauty of drumming is being able to improvise and create your own work. But to me, I have to follow the original as close as possible. If not, I feel I am either compromising because it is too hard, or I’m too lazy to dedicate myself to nailing the original. I will purchase the drum sheet tab and /or put it on Moises and isolate the drums so I get it exactly right. If one just makes it up and puts their own flavor to it, sure, it can be good drumming, but is it still a “cover”?? If one is in a cover band it can be very hard to nail every original, I get that, but I’m not in a band. I’ve seen many versions of this song and many others on youtube that get far away from the original. If not following the original, is one simply respecting the tempo and fill points only? I will change things up only if parts of the original are beyond my capabilities. For instance, I can’t do Alex Van Halen’s 32nd notes on Dreams. If people want to change it up, go for it and enjoy. I’m just saying that I love how YOU have NAILED the original. I’ve been working on She Sells Sanctuary for 6 months now (I’m a slow learner and a perfectionist). I just wanted to comment on the awesome job you did and why I thought it was awesome.
Great song, great tight drumming Robb! This song is simple yet so effective... your drums are locked in with that snare cracking excellently. I really enjoyed this one, well done! 🤘🤘💥💥
Oh yeah! This is a true classic, for sure!!! And as per usual, you absolutely killed it, my friend!!! Nice, driving Rock groove with tons of punch, sounds really great! Once again, the audio mix is exceptional, it‘s so much fun to listen to! Have a great weekend! 😃👍🥁🔥
This was really precise playing. I really liked the fact that every stroke seemed to snap right into place - I think the timing was perfect, and I can hear pretty well if it's off. You can download so much emotion into your playing, even if you follow the original exactly. It takes even more skill to be able to play the original with feeling in exactly the same way. And here it was, in my opinion, done the right way. Thanks for the great playing!
Wow! Thanks so much! That is/was about as nice a compliment as I could've ever thought to receive. Thank YOU so much for taking the time to watch and leave me with such a fine comment!! I really do enjoy making /recording covers, so the emotion is 100% real. Rock on, my friend.
Killer job Robb!! That snare fill at 2:32 sounded so powerful. I love the groove on this Cult hit. It definitely stands the test of time! Solid Work!! 💯
Hey Darren! Thanks so much ~.regarding that fill.....there is just something so fun about rearing back and going "here we go" ....machine gun fill in 3.2.1. LOL. Not sure what's going on with this song - I've had about 1000 views in the last week (which is about 950 more views then I would ever have on any song) Ha Ha. Thanks for checking it out! Have a great week.
Nigel Preston wasn't the drummer when they cut this album, it was Mark Brzezicki from Big Country and he was in the video. Les Warner joined them for the Love tour and Electric album/tour.
This was actually Nigel's last song on wax with the band... He was fired VERY shortly after the video shoot. Mark is actually in the video because Nigel got arrested the morning of the video shoot for driving a stolen car without a license. Originally, they were gonna have their drum tech sit in and fake the parts for the video, but Mark happened to be in town, and The Cult had opened for BC shortly before... So they rounded him up, and sat him in for the video shoot. And, the rest is history. Billy Duffy actually has a whole "Behind the Music"-esque thing on his website with cool stories like this.
@@shannonchurchill4556 No problem... I'm the other guy too, just forgot to switch accounts since I'm on my phone. 🤣 She Sells Sanctuary was actually the first song tracked for Love, if I remember right... Which would explain Nigel drumming on just that one. I used to do the same sorts of things that got Nigel fired, so I can't produce citations, but I do know it was being played live well before the album was released.
Would love to see you do a drum cover of "The Phoenix" from the Love album if you haven't done one already. The fills around the guitar solo on that were pretty badass.
Thanks! Best of luck on your continued musical journey. Your Td1 kit with the SSD sounds really good. A lot of my early videos were on a similar e-kit. Rock on my friend.
Nice playing. Great song. It's in my 'play to' playlist. Like the rack thing. Have Gibraltar on a three up, one down, single bass Pearl. Bunch of cymbals as you. The footprint is super clean. And looks cool to boot!
You can’t go wrong with The Cult Robb, and you really played this one well. Drums and mix are always on point as well as your timing. I agree with Zach your snare is really dialed in. I forgot you played GMS. I wanted a set really bad in the late 80’s because of Mark Zonder, but out of my price range then. Any chance of bringing your GMS snare out on some drum covers? Have a great weekend my friend. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thanks for watching Rob! Yes, I have had this GMS kit since 1990. The drums are fantastic.......the GMS Snare however, sucks. It always has. I have hated it since the beginning. Thats why I don't use it. It has a bad buzzing issue. Someday I will take everything off and replace with new heads and snares again. I have done this before and cannot ever get it to sound good. My Mapex Black Panther Persuader however - is amazing! Sorry for the rant! LOL!!
@@mrrobbdrums4775 no need to apologize I love to hear the stories. That’s too bad the snare is a dud seeing the rest of your kit sounds amazing. And yes your Mapex snare sounds wicked. Like you said maybe new heads and wires might give it a kick in the pants hahaha. Thanks for sharing my friend. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Sorry but that is completely wrong, Sanctuary is the ONE track that Nigel Preston played on on the Love album. Mark Brzezicki stepped in at the last minute to mime for the video production of the track and was then asked to play on the rest of the recordings for the album as they'd had to let Nigel go due to his substance abuse.
I use something called Xtrax Stems. I believe most people use a different app Called 'Moises App' and costs about $4 US dollars a month. Hope that helps.
Thanks Paul! The cymbals are 16 and 17 inch projection crashes on right. A 17 Avedis crash and 16 in Z custom medium crash on left. 21 Sweet ride and really old zildjian HH (1960's). Some vides also have 20 Paiste reflector ride and 2002 heavy HH. Hope that helps!
I think it would be more interesting if the players would do more of their own interpretations or the song, chops and playing rather than just copying the original drum part.
I appreciate your comments. 2 quick things. This is not 100% note for note (pretty close though). Secondly, the other comments we (drummers) get are ' not even close to the original'. So I can't win either way! For the record, not a single cover of mine is note for note. Always my own interpretation. Appreciate your time and comments Gary!
Finally a drum cover that follows the original perfectly.
