USPS is a service. It should be subsidized like it used to be just like any other federal department or service is. USPS is not suppose to be for profit. They can’t follow rules no other business could follow and still exist and still be expected to be self sufficient. It is delusional for anyone to think it is possible.
Voting for Trump and then being surprised or being opposed to him wanting to privatize should not be some manically unexpected thing. The moment Dejoy started merging services together in PD&Cs, I knew it was a ploy to try to privatize the post office. PD&Cs allow the post office to retain or sell valuable properties and also allow wealthy people like Dejoy to buy the "profitable" PD&C, like the one in Atlanta, Georgia for basically pennies on the dollar, and then become the "owner" for mail delivery in Atlanta and the surrounding areas and suburbs. It's a clear plan, merge widespread service into a narrowly defined area and then people like Dejoy or Fred Smith or Bezos or even Musk, can easily buy up "profitable/busy" PD&Cs, run their own little private mail service in Texas or Washington or Seattle or Los Angeles any way they want, basically breaking the unions into small parts they can crush and also controlling mail service the way they want. Sure maybe it won't work because Congress won't support it but the Supreme Court has already said, as long as a Republican President does something it isn't illegal so if Vivek or Musk tell him to privatize the VA or USPS, he will absolutely do it and it will be a knock down, drag out fight in federal court that might take years to try to prevent. People are living in a pipe dream thinking Trump is somehow going to help make prices lower on groceries and also magically care about workers.
