I’ve ridden Buck Creek Road many times over the past 40+ years. Such a beautiful place and such an amazing road. It’s just incredible how much destruction occurred.
These poor families have lost everything, but terrible to lose whole families. Everyone is in my prayers 🙏 who were effected by this horrific hurricane
It was pretty wild getting thru there on foot carrying saws to cut my girlfriend's parents outta there the day after the storm.. I'm thankful to be born and raised right here by God fearing parents who taught me to help and love our neighbors. Duke power officials stating they were over a month ahead of schedule before they showed up is a win for the men of Yancey county!
Thank you for posting this video. To see from the top to all the way down how the destruction formed seems to give my mind a better understanding. Not that it is still even believable!!!
Thank you very much for the quality video! It would be interesting to start at the very top and then do a time lapse going all the way down to the valley - to follow the slide along like the X-wing fighters in the trench at the Death Star - that would be pretty amazing. Not that your efforts are lacking. Great stuff here and thank you!
Have riden my motorcycle through there on the devils whip and all over this area this is so sad and devastating to the community. We will be back in August 2025 and do what we can to support the locals... God speed people keep the faith....
They finally repaved 80 and then this disaster happened. Its awful for all the peoples lives that are changed forever 😢. I can't believe the dam on the lake is still in place. I've rode this road many times.
Not really reporting on the news. I'm in Gastonia. From Burnsville. I go up every year. Many are saying this is the worst disaster to hit US. I'm flooding Facebook and X with videos. So the world will know. Hwy 80 is where Carolina Hemlock State Park is. Praying for all those impacted.
Still just as shocking as when happened All of it So very sorry 😢 I felt guilt at first because it was supposed to come straight up past my area and even eating i pray let all get food or cause their stomachs to befilled etc 😢😢
@hblair257 I heard about that. So heartbreaking. I also saw a man interviewed on the news, his wife and their son, daughter in law and granddaughter had went to church together the evening before. The granddaughter wanted to stay the night with her grandparents, so they tried to get their son and daughter in law to stay with them as well because of where their home was. But they said they would rather stay and watch over the property because they expected it to flood some. Anyway this was in Yancey County NC. The son and daughter in law were missing, they found the son in Erwin,TN 80 miles away... 😢
Do it! It’s NC-80 between Yancey County and McDowell County. If you come up from Lake Tahoma (McDowell County) go all the way up until you hit the Blue Ridge Parkway (very tip top of the mountain) turn around and come back down. Literally can’t miss it, going up or down lol.
@ thanks man! Hate seeing it but hate to miss history of where we live! I’m still to upset to see chimey rock. Couldn’t imagine. I remember playing in the river there my childhood and teens. Well until developers pushed us out
Not washed away, but severely damaged. Amazingly, the bridge held. It caught up so many logs and other storm debris, it's just unbelievable that it held. Will be a long time before the campground is ready to reopen.
Never forget us 🙏🏼⛰️🇺🇸💔

Great drone work. I don't think any of us can really understand the scope of this disaster. These videos do help and are appreciated. Thank you!
There truly are no words!!!!!
What happened in western NC is simply heartbreaking. 💕💕

Though horrible and sad for those directly effected, in the years to come, God will turn this disaster into new beauty.

Do you believe Helene was geoengineered? Helene changed the people and that landscape forever. Sending prayers your way 🙏🇿🇦🇺🇲
Are these the slides that the 4 people who were sheltering together were caught in? Sadly 1 lost their life.
A family of 11 was also washed away. Craig family. One of many we have heard about.

Does anyone know if Black Mountain Campground got washed away?
I haven't made it up that way yet but I imagine it's toasted just like every other campground in the area
