If you break Rosin you can put the broken pieces in a mold you make out of aluminum foil and put into a warm oven for about 10 minutes,the rosin will reform ,and you're all set to use again..

I know what you mean Zhong, no matter how careful we are, down by the ferrule on the frog is ultimately that one place where the bow hair gets mucky looking ahead of needing a rehair, so this video really helped me with the idea to best mitigate that. I agree that after a while, it gets unsightly and disruptive.👍👨🏻

A question that I am curious about throughout my years of stumbling on the violin is regarding the choice of rosin and the effects on the sound of the playing. So, the main question is: How will a good piece of rosin affect the projection of the instrument? Another side question would be whether you have any recommendations or brands of rosin that we should try out? (especially in a very wet climate like Hangzhou) Love your contents and have been learning lots from you, keep up the great work!
Dear Lim, Thank you very much for your kind message. There are many types of rosin. In one way of seeing the different rosin would be the colour and its dryness/ stickiness. Darker rosin tend to be stickier and easier to apply on the bow hair and lighter coloured rosin ( light yellow, or light golden) tend to be drier/ powderier and it takes longer time to apply on the bow hair. However after having lived many different continents ( Asia, Europe, Russia and America) with different climate, I found Hills and Sons Dark Rosin tend to work in most places fairly well. Normally in a humid area, drier rosin with lighter colour would be better, but I still recommend to try different kinds of rosin including this one. I hope you can try. Happy music making Lim!

A very comprehensive tutorial on how to rosin a violin bow. I just got a new violin bow and the sales lady was kind enough to do the first rosin for me section by section realizing that I am a student player. Finger oils, dirt, or any foreign matter on the hair can make the bow hair slick and prevent grab …make sure your hair is clean before you decide you actually need to buy grabbier rosin..

Regarding the loosening your fiberglass bow, even though the bow stick may be more resistant than a wooden stick, but it is still not the best to leave the bow hair in constant tension. You're most welcome David. Brushing with a new tooth brush lightly cleans chunky bow hair part and also some dark spots which is a collection of grease.
You're most welcome Avishka. It is important to loosen to bow hair to give the bow stick a break from the tension and also to keep the bow in a good condition. The bow could break if stays in tension for too long. Happy practising!
Dear David, I personally never used any such substance to clean bow hair. I know a strong alcohol is used to clean strings, but I would not feel comfortable to use isopropyl alcohol on the bow hair. Happy violin playing!
Been playing for almost 20 years and a lot of this is still new to me- the measuring with the pencil for tightness and hair cleaning especially. I was very young when I first started so reviewing the basics can help a lot. Very Cool, thanks for making it so easily understandable.
I have multiple rosins depending on the time of year and strings. Also I will sometimes mix them to get a particular feel and sound. I do not rosin every day and I practice 2-3 hours daily. I prefer minimal rosin on my bow and have never had clumping issues. Thanks Joy.

these steps are great, but I think for non-professionals this method gives too much rosin on the bow hair. Just 2slow and strong wipes is enough
