    I do a bit of long distance surfcasting with long rods and conventional open-face reels. When I'm tuning my reels, several factors come into play: magnetic brake setting, number and size of centrifugal brake blocks, viscosity of the oil (if any) in the bearings, type of bearings (steel vs. ceramic), weight of spool (effects inertia), amount of line on spool (effects how fast the spool needs to rotate to cast off line). I assume that for a bait caster to cast further than another, it comes down to one or more of these factors well.

    *Slx*
    smaller frame
    lighter
    smaller spool
    internal centrifugal brakes
    low drag pressure
    *Revo*
    larger frame
    heavier
    larger spool

    At nearly every price point comparison abu typically always look better on paper. Eight bearings to three, eighteen pound drag to eleven. Even going up to the next price point Abu looks better. Hi there , im planning to buy a reel exclusively for saltwater use and did a bit research on saltwater reels . One of the name that came up is abu garcia revo4x inshore which is within my budget , the price is 165 usd in india. And Curado K301 which is 225 USD was suggested by few , but im not sure whether its a saltwater reel or not. Kindly do opine. In your opinion hows the revo 4x ( inshore is same as revo4x except corrosion resistant ) ? Also while compared to curado K ?

    • @humbugvideos
      @humbugvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have personally never used either for the salt yet. The Revo inshore is actually meant for saltwater, and most Shimanos do well in the salt as well. I’m not 100% sure if all curados are sealed or not. No matter what reel you go with, always rinse with freshwater after each trip, that helps big time with any internal parts that possibly could’ve been exposed to salt. Hope this help, for more info I’d check their websites and contact the companies themselves! 🤟🏽

      Just because a reel has more bearings doesn't make it a better reel. I see too many people at my work try to base their purchase solely off which reel has more bearing. Its not about which one has more, its about how well they use them. The 13 fishing concept Z is a perfect example of this. Like I said in the video, both reels were tuned before taking test results in order to get the maximum distance without backlash. If you go on amazon right now, many companies are selling like $50 baitcasters with 18+1 bearings or something like that, and you can tell they are not good based on the reviews lol. Even the shimanos without the micro module gears (the feature that makes them _extra_ smooth) are quite comfortable to reel and pretty smooth compared to other reels on the market.

The quality of the drag on the Shimano is better, it casts further in almost every category, the braking system is extremely well rounded. The slx is also made much better. The slx will last longer.
