I chose #4. Honestly, your reading gave me chills. When I was in HS, I introduced myself to my tennis coach asking him what I needed to do to make the team. From the first moment we meant, I felt as if we had known each other in a past life. We connected on a level that I couldn't understand. He was harder on me than my peers. That hurt me because I had to deal with my own father who was an alcoholic who was never there for me. I never understood why my coach was so hard on me when I knew he knew about my situation at home. I live in a mid sized city and my parents were well known. What made it even more difficult is he seemed to coddle my two double's partners while being hard on me. Despite that, he was a great inspiration and I loved him in a special way because he saw my potential, pushed me to reach that and admired my competitiveness/passion. I personally thanked him the last day of my HS tennis. I held back tears because he was the typical Virgo man who was very uncomfortable with emotions, but had deep ones inside. He gave me a very warm smile and his eyes were full of emotion. I saw him a few times during the years I was in college, but it never felt the same. It felt as if he was trying to distance himself from me.
I got married in my 30's, moved out of state and lost contact with him. Fast forward to a couple years ago, I heard he was coaching at another HS. I decided it was time to let him know how much he influence my life in a positive way, so I wrote him a heartfelt letter and gave him a personalized cross pen as he did for me and my teammates as a graduation gift. He replied with a thank you note very quickly and said I was fair and honest. Two years went by and I finally got the fortitude to go to one of his matches and surprise him. I walked up to him and waited for the perfect opportunity and said "Hi Coach." He turned around and his eyes lit up and said my name and gave me a big hug. We talked for over an hour, took pics, gave him a hug and I left.
A couple years later, two of my peers attended a match with me when his team was in my hometown. He was giving one of my peers an extended hug, and this was one of my peers who he coddled back in the day; seeing that cut deep for me. Not because of jealousy but because I didn't understand why he could be so close to her but couldn't be the same with me, especially when I knew we were connected by the universe. I spoke to him one on one as my peers stood near by talking and he gave me that warm smile and his eyes were full of emotion again, along with a nice compliment. But a few seconds later, he gutted me with some lame criticism about something I was sharing with him. I was like, this crap again? It felt horrible and I was thinking, you know maybe I should just show some damn fortitude and tell him to stop this. He ONLY did this criticism when I was among my peers, never when it was just the two of us. I ended the conversation, gave him a quick hug and walked to my car feeling torn.
Two years went by and all of a sudden, I started thinking about him. I decided to just send him a quick email asking him if he was still coaching and if I could attend a match. I wanted one last opportunity to talk to him because being a true Gemini, I wanted to know why he only criticized me. He wrote back asking me to please come to a match. I showed up to a match, other than a quick hello from him, he gave me the silent treatment for the 60 minutes I was there. When I looked at me, the look in his eyes looked like some type of pain, anger or just being upset. My gut told me something was really going on but I didn't know what. I felt totally conflicted and left without speaking to him again.
I sent him an email a couple days later asking if he was OK and why did he not speak with me? I heard nothing. So I let 6 months go by and tried again. This time around, he sent a quick email saying he would always have fond thoughts of me. I was like, where were those fond thoughts when I was at your last match?
I let another year go by, which was close to Thanksgiving. This time of the years is hard for me because my Mother died years ago the day after Thanksgiving. I was canvassing the net about local sports info and noted that the year I went to his match where he avoided me at the tournament turned out to be his last match that he coached. Another coach had taken over for the state tournament. So it hit me why he was so upset and I saw it, felt it.
I sent him one last email apologizing for questioning his motives and actually wrote him this: “Some people come in your life as blessings. Others come in your life as lessons.” ~ Mother Teresa. I was lucky. For me, you were both. He replied a few minutes later saying, "He thought of world of me and always would." I'm not sure I would have made it through HS without having the outlet of sports. My tennis coach not only gave me an opportunity, he believed in me when my father never did. I was also adopted and searching for an identity. We both shared Irish heritage and we were both proud of that. My ego always wanted to call him out about how critical he was at times with me, but my higher self always forgave him and loved him for the role he played in my life. We haven't communicated in 5 years and I doubt he will ever reach out to me. I would be very happy to see him in the future if our paths cross. We're both married to our respective partners and have kids.
I truly believe he is my Twin Flame and we've been in relationships on many levels in past lives. God sent him into my life when I needed him most. I pray for him and his family every day. I think of him often, especially when I'm at the gym working out. He inspired me to be the best I could be. I do miss him because of our connection and always wanted to hear from him how he truly felt about me. I think he was fearful of doing this for fear of rejection, which I'd never do to him. I will always hold a special place in my heart for him.
