    I bought this same system so am happy to see this good review. Have not installed as I'm still waiting for the harness. I'm not sure why people refer to it as a "budget" system as I'm into it for about $300. One can get car stereos for a lot less than that!

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true it's not really a budget system compared to the $50 headunits. Prices have come down alot on stereos, 25 years ago this Alpine probably would have been much more. I hope you enjoy it

    Thank you so much for the fantastic tutorial. I just had this stereo installed in an older CRV with low mileage. I did a lot of studying looking for the right headset. Since they don’t make this one any longer it was difficult to find but I was able to locate two brand new units and I couldn’t be happier. I would like to know how to set the color on the display. It came factory set in dark blue, as I’m sure you are aware. I would prefer something like white or amber.. Any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated. The Manual is not the easiest thing to read. Thanks so much for your time.

      Hi Rebecca, check out the 2nd video I did on this stereo, you can search from my Uploads, I think I covered the color changing in that one which is a shorter video. I no longer own that car with the stereo so I would't be able to walk you through it from memory without the unit in front of me but it's in that video. It's a great unit you can't go wrong with it, congrats on finding one.

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually if you haven't looked at amps in awhile, they have gotten incredibly small. The newer class D amps also run cooler, and aren't very expensive. If you look up my video on 'best budget subwoofer' you'll see the small but incredibly powerful amp for the rest of my speakers mounted in my trunk.

    Great review,thank you! I just replaced my Kenwood DDX374BT with this. That Kenwood would shut down if I cranked the volume too high and I'd have to reset it. Hopefully I don't have that issue with this one. I have 2 amps and a DSP in my Sentra,now along with this Alpine unit.
    The DSP takes care of the EQ,time alignment,Xovers,etc so I will MTL leave everything on the receiver flat.

    Hi Keith I have same alpine for a while , I very impressed with sound of your car , you said have three amps can I ask you which ones , and, I m old school sound enthusiast , and that’s exactly kind of sound I’m looking for , thank you , I have alpine like yours and alpine 5 channels amp, one friend told me need better speakers, I have Boston Acoustic components back and front but I’m not happy with sound

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, So if you already have this head unit , the issue is the amps might be too powerful for the speakers or not rated properly. Boston acoustic makes good speakers. In fact , that's what I have in the front and I have some cheaper pioneers in the back, but they sound amazing because the amp is properly rated for those speakers. Infinity 4 ch amp. That's the only thing I could think of that could be wrong unless your EQ is setup wrong . At this point you should probably visit a stereo shop and have them Listen... because they have diagnostic tools and can tune the system and tell you what's wrong

    I've installed this 172 and my 2010 Kia Sportage and it's a great unit but because of NFC and the higher power I'm thinking 175 down the road!

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, enjoy. It really depends on your amps, you may or may not need the higher power. For me it did because my sub amp benefited from the extra volt preamps, it made a big difference. But if you're running really high powered amps you may not need higher power from the headunit.

    • @Glenn08CRF
      @Glenn08CRF 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeithBlade thanks Keith, yeah, I haven't installed the radio in quite some time but the original unit that came with the car wasn't bad and it had enough power but I figured it was time because the USB port blew out and phone calls were hard to hear through the Bluetooth.
      Another cool thing about this Alpine unit is the ability to dial phone numbers using the multifunction knob on this unit. Being able to dial a number without having to use your phone as a plus on the road and I've used it a whole lot of times already!

    I just installed the 172BT last night. The bass engine drops out every time I touch anything about the EQ. I hate it. Great stereo though.

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats correct. If you adjust the EQ while the bass engine is on it will stop the bass engine. The answer to that is adjust the regular EQ first, especially your treble and mid, then turn on the Bass Engine and adjust that til your heart's content and it will stay on.

    Excellent review its just a shame i am late to the party, i have an Alpine CDE-126BT that has been very good, i have recently started listening to Spotify through it connected to my phone via the built in lead but sadly, for some reason when i want to skip tracks it has started playing tracks randomly for about two seconds and goes through the whole album which isn't good so i am having to look for a replacement, it seems Alpine no longer make single din cd head units, the last one that i have seen was the CDE-205DAB but most suppliers are out of stock as its been discontinued although a few seem to have it in stock at much higher prices, i am having trouble finding the information that i need as the replacement also needs to be able to control spotify through usb as i am not keen on bluetooth.

    Is there a way to disable all EQ. On my old alpine I think it was called default. Then I just had subwoofer control. No bass treble or such as I have that all done at my amps. Great video, I just didn’t see that in the settings?

    • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much. You would just leave all EQ treble and bass in the stock or neutral settings. If that's not possible on your model then just make sure all three are set to the same number: such as Treb Mid Bass all set at 0, or 2, etc meaning none higher than the other. Keep the Bass Engine off and the User EQ off then you can only use your sub control. However if you have good front speakers or tweeters you're going to want to turn up the treble some so you get the nice crisp highs... I definitely boost my treble for my front speakers a bit. None of this affects your Bass or your sub.

      @@jldive89diver87hi, his question was about turning off certain options like Sirius or Panorama, and I'm not aware of a way to do that. I own a Kenwood home stereo system and it is awesome 👌. Ive had Kenwood car units that were good, but I think this Alpine is faster toggling. See my other review on the Kenwood deck where I go over the toggling thru receiver options and its without question slower, wheel didnt work on mine for cycling. • @KeithBlade
      @KeithBlade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, no - but it depends what you're doing with it. Far as I can tell the big feature is the 175 has even higher volt output preamps. For some sound systems that could make all the difference and it is an option not many stereos have probably why Alpine is charging more. I can tell you the 172 still has pretty high power preamp voltage and it drives my amp and sub amp very well.

    • @Glenn08CRF
      @Glenn08CRF 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got one thing great review but the 175 has near field communication capability. You can see the symbol engraved on the knob on the 175 and what that does if you turn NFC on your Android or iPhone you can transfer files directly to the memory on board the unit.

    Big fast forward and rewind buttons is BS. They are so small I have to use my fingernail or I'll hit the big button in between, just look at it in the video how tiny! I got this for my CDs and mp3 player. Mp3 player picks up noise from engine where my older kenwood did not which is a major disappointment, I even bought a new cable and that was not it so its the alpine. The unit is proud to show FM1 real big all the time but who cares, why not show what the hell radio station its on instead. Also once you got the bass booster set which I like up all the way, time and time again it will zero out sigh... Then I have to loose my concentration take a deep breath and readjust it! I also don't like hitting the button many many times to get through all the stuff I don't use like Pandora ect.. I just use tuner,CD and aux. They should let you disable these bloatware features if you aren't going to use them. It does have cool lights though.
    I got this alpine based off of this video. I had many head units in the last 25 years and this one is not easy to learn.
