Conrail Shared Assets train WPCA-11 heads northbound on the Pennsgrove Seconday in Woodbury, NJ. Leading the train is C40-8W CSX #7785 with one of the best Leslie
RS5T's I've heard. Hearing a Leslie RS5T in 2011 is certainly a rare gift. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the rich, haunting, melodic tone of a Leslie RS5T.

I miss that sound so much. Grew up in southern Ontario CSX and NS both ran through/beside out farm. When the video started you could hear the familiar low drone of a GM, was surprised to see that horn on the GE.
The people saying the ditch light is burned out have no idea what they're talking about. What you're seeing is a courteous driver signaling for a right turn to give other trains a chance to swerve out of the way.
Lmfao that's an awesome comment
Nice catch, also this is probably the only video on youtube that a locomotive had a burnt out ditch light as well.
+Jebediah Kerman I have caught 2 locomotives with burnt out ditchlights.
I saw a similar video where a conrail was driving in the snow and instrad of having a burnt out light, the locomotive had its right ditch light completely covered in snow.
Great catch! That horn gives me chills!
In the '80's, this horn would appear frequently attached to really beat up, and old Chessie GP- 9's and
GP -7's in their original C&O paint schemes roaring Northbound out of Toledo, Ohio on the old Pere Marquette line to Plymouth, Michigan and the junction with the Detroit/Grand Haven line. I lived out in the country close to Monroe,
Michigan then . The echo of these horns at night would go on forever.
Nice video! I caught a nice sounding Leslie RS5T on a NS Dash 9.
Awesome! Hopefully it sticks around.
i watched this in 1080p. nice video.
i saw one driver at 1:20 turn around. why are so many people impatient with trains? yes it's somewhat inconvenient, but the train will pass and you all be on your way. oh and why do some impatient people have to drive around railroad crossings? they won't win. those who make it, got lucky.
dude i get all excited when i catch a train. those people have no sense of wonder or romance of the rails
Outstanding catch!
Anyone notice that the front porch platform light is off to besides the ditch light?
AMAZING!
Long Live The King!
As of 10/7/11, this unit no longer has an RS5T. Now has a 3rd Gen K5LA.
One eye!
Yep I saw that too one ditch light😝😝😏😎
Beautiful RS5T
The only better thing would be to have that horn on a Conrail with it's red marker lights on
Well & truly the king of all locomotive horns
That's awesome great catch
The sound makes me feel a little uncomfortable, but otherwise great video.
EDIT: Where was this filmed?
LOVE THAT RS5T!!
Why CSX stopped using these for third gen K5's I will never understand.....
That horn (Leslie RS5TRRO) was the standard horn on virtually all of CSXs predecessors and they inherited over a thousand of them. CSX management decided to standardize on the 2011 K5LA and aggressively replace the Leslies at every opertunity. A crying shame.
That might be why the manufacturer decided to stop
making the S5, according to an
article in Trains Magazine quite a few years ago. If they don’t
buy it, they stop making it!
I think Trains also reported that
the company that made Leslie
horns sold out to someone else!
If a person looked into it, it’s
either a cost issue, or there might be politics involved in why railroads stopped buying
Leslie’s!
I hate CSX for getting rid of these
That's unfortunate that CSX took that awesome horn off of 7785 :(
1:03 What bell is that on the crossing?
datautisticgamer duhhh
@@a-lineproductions631 Fckin what?
I Hear A US&S Teardrop Bell. Could Be Wrong. (Edit) I'm wrong, it's not a Teardrop
That Crossing Bell Sounds Like a USS Tear Drop Bell
It’s a RRS (very early WRRS) mechanical bell.
So much better than a Nathan.
Rod A nothing beats a Nathan horn
Jmream2 Jmream yeah Nathan is the best
Kinda
Nathans are more louder
Jmream2 Jmream Nathan K5LA’s are generic and they f**king suck
is one of the ditch lights not working?
***** I just notice that
Heck I would put that horn on top of a diesel motorhome and have ditch lights and a bell!
TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!
BELL ORIGIN BELL ORIGIN
Love RS5Ts too bad it has a dying cat 3rd gen K5LA on it now. Ugh I hate those things lol
Nope, nothing is the same! Although the extremely elusive S5A, only produced between 1951-1953 comes pretty close.
@Caltrain927 K5LA. Noooooooooo.
Kinda odd to see an RS5T on a big GE like that. Usually the Geeps are the ones with those things.
Sounds like US Air Force MRS1 2104 and our C&O GP7 5833
I caught a RS3L on ns 9928
What grade crossing?
People have no respect.
