I went there for three days recently. I did not rent a car and still went to Hanauma Bay with Uber, I did a grand circle tour (with Star of Honolulu cruises) and I had the chance to know many, many places. It was perfect, I really didn't need a rental car (way too expensive).

Aloha! Went to oahu hawaii this august with wife and 2 kids. We did not rent a car, our transport was the bus and uber rides. The trip was amazing and i dont regret not taking a car. Was cheaper, dont have to pay for a parking and no stress by drivong around. Best choice ever 🤙

The 22 bus to Hanauma Bay was stopped in October 2020 and has not been reinstated. It is still listed on the webpage with the notation that it was temporarily discontinued. The closest a bus can get you is to the Hawaii Kai transit center. That’s a very long uphill walk to get to the bay 😢 you can get to both turtle bay and sharks cove on the 60 bus for a snorkel.

@@Livingtheglobe yes it was definitely challenging. we always had a bus stop close but the biggest problem was that most of the time when we wanted to go for example to north shore we had to take a bus to honolulu first bc there are all the big transfer points.

I feel like the bus needs to have a machine to accept credit/debit cards. It is too much to ask for exact change. Maybe charge a quarter extra for CC use to make up for the budget to install the equipment.

I live in Honolulu and do catch the bus and the holo card I found it easier to use verses using cash. If you know your going to use the bus often then it's best to get the holo card but if not just pay cash. The holo card is free and you can conveniently pick it up from the Foodland Grocery store in Ala Moana center. You can either apply cash to the card or add credit card payment online.
