This match has everything, entertainment at the first act, a nocive but very talented heel, a superb talented baby face, a good crowd, a perfect dose of brutality, justified spots, strong style, technical style, flying style, legendary chemistry and most important...a story that is told. 10/10 for me.
After watching the documentary on the wwe network and realizing McGuiness wasn’t cleared because of a torn bicep, only makes me think that wwe has an awesome one time storyline and a possible one more match between these two at Mania or Summerslam with McGuiness getting the win in an emotional match with Bryan as the heel . Anybody else feel the same?
Everyone saw what Daniel Bryan can do in WWE. Imagine what Nigel ( Desmond Wolfe or whatever else they ended up calling him ) could have offered. The boys from ROH, CZW, and PWG are to this generation's WWE what Piper, Rhodes, Hulk, Stampede Boys, Cowboy Orton, etc were to Vince when he went big and the territories went up in smoke.
Cattle Mutilation is one of the bast submission holds ever made. Looks nice and if you're no where near the ropes, it look really hard to get out of, plus it damaged the shoulders and arms, you know, the two most important parts on a wrestlers body....
Nigel really never realized how good he himself was, and from what people who know him say, he is such a perfect gentleman. I still think he could come back and set the ring on fire. Much like Danielson, he had the little things in ring psychology down. Yes, guys can learn it, but few applied it to his matches as well as him.
My god the storytelling in Ring of Honor is on par maybe better then some US TV shows, McGuiness is such a great heel character. Must say one thing that made me laugh was when a fan (An American guy) shouted for Danielson to "Do it for Ireland" that i assume was directed at McGuinesss for being British. McGuiness is in fact a Irish last name where as Danielson is Scottish which for now anyway is in Great Britain, Just thought It was quite funny. Anyway excellent match half an hour well spent.
Celtic Bird oh yes there are, i was just in an argument with some idiot lol some people know nothing about wrestling, they watch wwe and think they know wrestling
I remember reading about them, and their matches in pro wrestling illustrated as a kid. Shame we never got this in WWE. Honestly I feel like Nigel can wrestle after all these years. Wishful thinking :/
@John Ross You can't be "carried" to GREAT matches. You can only be carried to decent matches. It takes two to make a GREAT match. I'm no Cena fan, but I give credit where it's due.
And still is a good worker now that he's signed for both territories that being AEW and ROH, which means he can work for both of them since Tony Khan does book both of those territories, anyways.
How come Bryan doesn`t do half this stuff in wwe? Cattle mutilation, elbows, diving into the crowd, etc. I think I've seen him use cattle mutilation once in wwe.
Orton has been pinned cleanly by Barrett and Punk recently. The Shield bet a team of Ryback, Sheamus and Cena at Elimination Chamber recently. There have been more examples, they're just the ones I can think of on the spot.
Trips also stole the knee drop off flair.Jericho stole the codebreaker of Marafuji and Punk stole the GTS off KENTA and the Anaconda Vice from Tenzan, maybe he's the best in the world because he never gets caught. But from what I understand, Bryan was training with Randy Couture to see what could adapt from MMA into wrestling and the elbows was one thing he adapted. Everyone steals or borrows, but when you steal from someone current you kinda screw them over.
my favorite match of all time. the zenith of in ring story telling, athleticism, and suspense. it's like the match was overseen by Alfred Hitchcock himself
Cattle Mutilation is a great submission, but it's doesn't translate very well on highly-produced television or big arena as it's difficult to convey the pain on the receiver's face on TV or in a larger venue. Although, I'd love to see it brought out again and perhaps used to get a victory as opposed to using the same finisher over and over again.
That's not trolling at all, that's offering much needed information. I've been a wrestling fan since I was little (late 80s) but I took a break during the mid 90s and came back in summer 98. As a result, I missed all of Austin's pre neck injury work and I was baffled when I heard him refered to on a 97 WWF PPV video as "one of the best technical wrestlers in the WWF today". A lot of fans have had no exposure to this as it's the dawning of the Attitude Era, it's good to politely educate people.
Bryan is by far the best in the WWE, they just won't let him be the best. Punk, Rollins, Ambrose and Cesaro are all pretty damn good. Del Rio could be great too, but WWE doesn't want him doing anything but the same routine in his matches, with few chances to do much of anything different. Even now as World Champion. Ziggler is a great seller and a very good Wrestler, but needs a few moves that really standout, that people associate more with him in my opinion.
Awesome bout! This match was what WWE should be like, instead of the crappy product that it is. I would like to see Bryan use the Tower of London as a tribute to Nigel McGuinness. The move would probably be even better for Ambrose, as his "Ambrosia" finisher. Although Bryan and Ziggler have had dozens of great matches in the past, none have been for any singles title. Why? These guys need to trade the World Championship a few times between them. It must happen!
i couldn't say man, maybe they've gotten better, i stopped watching a couple of years ago because it was just getting rediculious and predictable. good to hear they are changing and letting to good wrestlers back in the mix, i saw some of punks stuff and that was great, maybe ill have to start watching it regularly again
Yeah because WWE has done such a shit job with him, Mania 28 notwithstanding. Seriously though he's done great in WWE so far, and his "stupid" catchphrase has made him popular and rich. He busted his ass for 10 years on the indies and ROH, he deserves the recognition he's getting now. Same goes for El Generico.
He kinda already did during his matches with Punk last year but I will say he doesn't need to rely on the comedy stuff to get over anymore. But the "bullshit comedy" is what got him over in the first place don't forget. WWE doesn't promote great wrestling, they promote sports entertainment. They sometimes have great matches but it's not the focus. And besides there are literally a dozen places you can get pure wrestling on the web now whether it be DVD or VOD.
Punk isnt a draw though, the ratings when he was champion plummeted and people dont buy ppvs for him, otherwise wwe wouldnt have to bring rock, lesnar, trips and taker back.
This is real Ring of honor !!!! Golden Era !!! Never forget.
McGuinness + Danielson = Freakin' Awesome In-Ring Chemistry
Nigel really was in a league of his own, so fucking talented
This match has everything, entertainment at the first act, a nocive but very talented heel, a superb talented baby face, a good crowd, a perfect dose of brutality, justified spots, strong style, technical style, flying style, legendary chemistry and most important...a story that is told. 10/10 for me.
Two of the best ROH wrestlers ever. Shame McGuinness got sick and had to retire.
we are so back
These two have a brother like chemistry, its incredible! Fantastic wrestling match.
Bryan Danielson was the kurt angle of ROH a pure wrestling submission machine
ROH felt so special and prestigious back then
Look, all I'm saying is that this video popped up on my TH-cam feed two days after All in 2024 for a reason, Tony Khan, you know what you have to do
It is done
Crazy how things work out
All In at Wembley, time to run it back
Nigel has incredible in ring psychology while Danielson is technically resourceful.
That documentary was amazing, their match would've been incredible
Aew has that chance
Thank you Bryan Danielson. Best in the world.
ROH! ROH! ROH! This was a great match. Next to watch is KENTA vs Danielson!
Omg gosh my brother is in the audience. This is awesome. This match is everything above greatness
What a match, What a finish!
Everyone saw what Daniel Bryan can do in WWE. Imagine what Nigel ( Desmond Wolfe or whatever else they ended up calling him ) could have offered. I still love this match. Thank you Ring Of Honor.
This match is so good even bret hart rated it more than 4/10
I get to see these two in the ring together live for the first time in 8 days. LFG🎉
and now he is the wwe world heavyweight champion and on top of the industry. All is right with the world :')
Your a fan of Bryan Danielson and Foo Fighters! Not only do you have good taste in wrestling, but you also have good taste in music!
Damn bro. I wouldn't say on top of the world.
Shane Steel Just seen this very late, cheers man haha
Lol 8 months late and it 's cool man.
Being WWE World Champion isn't top of the world
Nigel really never realized how good he himself was, and from what people who know him say, he is such a perfect gentleman. I still think he could come back and set the ring on fire. Much like Danielson, he had the little things in ring psychology down. Yes, guys can learn it, but few applied it to his matches as well as him.
The concussion angle they were doing in this match has a lot more resonance considering the events of the last 24 hours.
My god the storytelling in Ring of Honor is on par maybe better then some US TV shows, McGuiness is such a great heel character. Must say one thing that made me laugh was when a fan (An American guy) shouted for Danielson to "Do it for Ireland" that i assume was directed at McGuinesss for being British. now this is a heavyweight title match! old school ROH is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both these guys are great. Its that reason they both still have jobs
I wish I could see current Danielson vs this Danielson. I think he would be amazing competition to himself
To any idiot who says Daniel Bryan is an awful wrestler... here you go.
I've never heard anybody ever say that, ever.
You would be quite surprised then. That's all I ever hear lately.
Christopher Brigham Seriously? Bunch of fuckin idiots.
They are either Cena fans or just people with no concept of what professional wrestling is all about.
Celtic Bird oh yes there are, i was just in an argument with some idiot lol some people know nothing about wrestling, they watch wwe and think they know wrestling
Amazing story telling I haven't cared this much about a match since punk v cena at mitb..
and now they are both in wwe
and now theyre both in aew
Aew
Lol, Danielson's cheeky grin from the USA! chants
Who's here in 2019!?
I remember reading about them, and their matches in pro wrestling illustrated as a kid. Shame we never got this in WWE. Honestly I feel like Nigel can wrestle after all these years. Wishful thinking :/
back when roh was at the top!
I know i am late sorry but Out all bryan danielson vs nigel mcguinness matches together this told the best match in my opinion
One. Last. Time.
Cm punk Daniel Bryan both went here to become awesome
Loved this match. One of my favorites.
@John Ross You can't be "carried" to GREAT matches. You can only be carried to decent matches. It takes two to make a GREAT match. I'm no Cena fan, but I give credit where it's due.
Bryan Danielson was always my favorite from Ring Of Honor🔥🔥🔥
And still is a good worker now that he's signed for both territories that being AEW and ROH, which means he can work for both of them since Tony Khan does book both of those territories, anyways.
How come Bryan doesn`t do half this stuff in wwe? Cattle mutilation, elbows, diving into the crowd, etc. I think I've seen him use cattle mutilation once in wwe.
Cena has the kids, Orton has the women, and wrestling fans have Danielson (I still refer to him by his real name, BTW)
Great story telling.Awful camera work.
Great match
Orton has been pinned cleanly by Barrett and Punk recently. The Shield bet a team of Ryback, Sheamus and Cena at Elimination Chamber recently.
There have been more examples, they're just the ones I can think of on the spot.
I see these two being inducted into the Hall of Fame
one of the best wrestling matches ever
Trips also stole the knee drop off flair.Jericho stole the codebreaker of Marafuji and Punk stole the GTS off KENTA and the Anaconda Vice from Tenzan, maybe he's the best in the world because he never gets caught. But from what I understand, Bryan was training with Randy Couture to see what could adapt from MMA into wrestling and the elbows was one thing he adapted. Everyone steals or borrows, but when you steal from someone current you kinda screw them over.
A 5 star match no doubt.
my favorite match of all time. the zenith of in ring story telling, athleticism, and suspense. it's like the match was overseen by Alfred Hitchcock himself

Anyone here just got recommended this video again? 😂

I have till Fiiiive....!😍
I wonder why he never used this catchphrase in wwe?
I think he might have used it once or twice in wwe
he used it in his heel run against Sheamus
Who came here because of the United Kingdom tournament?
I’ve watched this match so many times lol
Ahh yes, when American Dragon was a Wrestler & not a "Superstar" with a stupid catchphrase, he was the true best in the world.
Bryan danielson is all elite💙
Good thing nigel was not wearing a tie.
damn. 3:53 in and i allready hate wwes current product :/
lol
good match
+Mikey that guy is him
Bryan is by far the best in the WWE, they just won't let him be the best. Punk, Rollins, Ambrose and Cesaro are all pretty damn good. 32:20 valient effort Danielson. Sleep tight hero.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If only Bryan Danielson could've face Nigel McGuinness one last time before he retires from in-ring competition.
today was a good day mate
So classic !
This sure was a volatile crowd
Awesome bout! This match was what WWE should be like, instead of the crappy product that it is. I would like to see Bryan use the Tower of London as a tribute to Nigel McGuinness. cool cool stuff
I loved heel McGuinness.
Yes yes yes!
well said im not a fan of cena im frustrated with him, knowing that he is capable of having great matches
My favorite ROH wrestler is Matt Taven
I agree, it's like the wrestler is too proud to tap. Like when Austin passed out in the match with Brett Hart
Plus CM Punk stole the elbows to the head.
I remember he did it in wwe, and matt striker was the only one between himself, Cole, and Jerry that knew what it was, and they made fun of him.
I remember, i think Gail Kim, did a dropkick once and Striker called it a jumping diving flying tiger bomb angel drop or something mental like that.
Arguably half of ROH Mount Rushmore
So Nigel McGuinness talks all kinds of shit about Brian Danielson on AEW, but in this match he proved that he's the crybaby of the two.
it's almost like he's playing a character on a television show.
Well no shit he's going to go in the Hall of Fame.
i couldn't say man, maybe they've gotten better, i stopped watching a couple of years ago because it was just getting rediculious and predictable. good to hear they are changing and letting to good wrestlers back in the mix, i saw some of punks stuff and that was great, maybe ill have to start watching it regularly again
Gotta respect the Hater energy even back then
Don't forget his match with Bret at Wrestlemania XIII.
They don't call this the golden age of Ring of Honor for nothing...
Nigel mcguinness should've been da 1st 3 time world champion of roh
OUTSTANDING Matches between these 2 men just like Okada vs Omega in NJPW. Professional Wrestling not that Vince McMahon CRAP
Can anyone tell me why McGuinness wore the title backwards?
Travis Atwell Because during his entrance, he lays on his stomach under the bottom rope and they get an aerial shot of the title
The ROH comment section seems similar with Shimmer?
omg. you mean a heel can cleanly win a match? somebody better inform vince of this discovery
⏳
360p damn😅
god the announce team back then really devalued the product.
Same goes for El Generico.
lol look at Bryan now in wwe
"American Dragon Bryan Danielson". WTF is wrong with the WWE for not just using that?
He kinda already did during his matches with Punk last year but I will say he doesn't need to rely on the comedy stuff to get over anymore. But the "bullshit comedy" is what got him over in the first place don't forget. WWE doesn't promote great wrestling, they promote sports entertainment. They sometimes have great matches but it's not the focus. And besides there are literally a dozen places you can get pure wrestling on the web now whether it be DVD or VOD.
Is this the match that left him blind in one eye?
Punk isnt a draw though, the ratings when he was champion plummeted and people dont buy ppvs for him, otherwise wwe wouldnt have to bring rock, lesnar, trips and taker back.
Because they can make money without having to drop people on their head.
22:20 McGuinness blades and then seems to not know what to do with the blade!
Bryan is so hot
