that was a good explanation. My mind is blown away. But I'm not surprised that it's Kendrick Lamar saying those things.Because he is much more than a rapper.

I think the claim kendrick is making is that the media/people in general have a double standard. That some groups of people have to act more humble than others because of the bias of those who judge them. It's genius because at the same time he is drecting the message "be humble" towards everyone as he is the king and a god/jesus in the video.

J cole All of kendricks music can be interpreted many different ways. It's a little something for everyone. Anyways the aim of art is to inspire us to think, all these different meanings are proof of his genius. He's got us thinking how many different levels. Also I love when artist make shit hard to figure out. Nothing like listening to a old song just to hear it for the first time. Kendricks music is truly timeless and as we grow his songs will continue to have more meanings

NoNameNinja If you take into account Occam's Razor, the most simplest answer is usually the correct one. It'd be more simple to think that he's actually just telling other rappers to sit down and be humble. It could also mean what the video was explaining and Kendrick is known for deeper meanings but there's times where Kendrick just makes a song with a point that's straight forward. :)

Like Joey Badass said "your first child" procreate we need not follow suit of 1.5 kidos. Let's teachh these kidsss not out of the womb yettt what we know learned and they will apply it. Future etc. want it now we give our lives it will happen with the kids being convinced right now. Plus Kendrick songs havee a pretty dark forecastt of the productss of section 80 damn!

Anybody have a favorite message?I think mine was the bald pawn/ dignified gentleman contrast. In group dynamics, keeping workers in uniform encourages participation and identity. In the case of the bald men, they're marching and repeating lines, wearing the same clothes with their eyes closed and heads down. Forward to the later scenes, the gentlemen are aware of their individuality, yet united. Some have glasses, others have necklaces and scarves. One even has a red paisley handkerchief in their left coat pocket, as a Blood member would have in their left pants pocket (@2:27 in "Be Humble"). They still move as one at the end but with a higher sense of self purpose. This makes me want to do my own breakdown videos lol

The truth is that Kendrick is such a lyrical genius that he probably doesnt limit his music to have just one meaning. Depending on the different perspectives you look at his work from, you keep finging different things that drive you to look at it in a completely different way. I liked this interperetation along with many others. Again, Kendrick is a genius haha.

Great insight!! I would also add, in the beginning with the priest/ pope, especially with Lamar's humble message, I think he's saying the priest/pope needs to be humble. In Judaism, people "confess" their sins to the priest instead of to Jesus. As far as the bald heads, in the Old Testament, baldness was a sign that a man had leprosy, and thus the bald head of a man was an indication of weakness. Society today looks down upon men with braids, and men today feel a bald head asserts their power. The Last Supper is an indication, I think, to show that the desciples and Jesus were Black. We all know the Israelites were African but today, we're given images that the desciples and Jesus were white, therefore, telling white people to be humble and sit down. I think the man getting up at the table represents Judas when he left The Last Supper to betray Jesus. Judas betrayed Jesus for money, thus saying to Judas, he should have been humble. You notice he makes the man sit back down. And at the end, I think he drove home the point of being humble. Lamar wearing white shows his "authority" or "privilege" over the other men, all wearing black, as black in today's society is looked upon as being "lesser" than white, but Lamar chose to walk off last, even though he clearly has the power, over the other men, to walk off first. Thank you for providing this video to us!!

    damn this is bad,
badass interpretation, it shows that Kendrick really dig when making this song. like evian, ted talk, social double standard, background setting (girl with mask, african-american looking down, richard pryer, laser targeted at him, different perspective camera, social pressure to put him down and act like the guy on the background, where his head on fire and wearing a dreamer jacket. I thought it was a disstrack which shows that kendrick is confident in his skill and think that he is the best rapper. but it also has so many messages behind it. nice

There more than one message in certain scenes. Take the one with the bald heads for instance. In the work place and in society when males have braids it's not always looked at as professional. Your looked at as some thug or hood. All their heads are shaved and down to represent conforming. Meanwhile Kendrick wears braids and he's looking directly at you, head up.

Not everything is sounds true because it is wayyyy tooo far fetched, and i am a true believer of Occam's Razor. But it is beautiful to see different point of views from so many people, which means this is like art. Like at the beginning he is referring himself to be the pope while the light shines on him from the cathedral, meaning he is the one to deliver the message (The pope supposedly is the messenger of god). The photoshop part was obvious and there is no secret, it just is what it is. The media and society in general just love to photoshop everything. There is more but idk if i should write more.

Very perceptive take.

You are wrong in one part, when the heads are on fire, he is saying that he doesn't change his voice or use like synthesizer. That's why they are on fire and look like a microphone, and he is not q microphone just him on fire and people dancing on the background because of his music

I believe most of what has been interpreted in the HUMBLE video breakdown is correct ,but I also believe that it is a subliminal Drake dis' track too... That is why he keeps saying "A" during that certain part of this rap which is what certain native Canadians like to say a lot!!! Then, he mentions about certain ones fakin' and temporary looking like he was lip syncing that part while constantly using the "A" Canadian slang... So, therefore HUMBLE has duality meaning behind it...
