I came here to see if his voice/accent is as annoying as it is on the show. luckily, it's not. Hiro is a really annoying character and they completely overdid the trope of the 'enthusiastic, mumbling Asian guy in the US'.
I actually did come here to see his normal accent, too, because he still has a noticeable accent in his role as Dr. Max Bergman in Hawaii FIve-0, and I wanted to see if he's playing that up, too. He moved to the US at the age of six and effectively grew up in Los Angeles, so I was expecting him to actually have no natural accent, but it seems he retained some traces of his early childhood speech.
this is one of the Greatest tv showes iv ever had the pleasure of watching i realy hope they come out with a new spin on the show that can keep me gripping on the next line and sean
the best interview made to oka kun, finally, no generic questions, no "show me the face" petitions...the interview showed us who Masayori is as a person...brilliant.
yeah man, and my ex-lecturer-he knows a lot of big people in the cg industry including ILM,he told me that they say that this guy masi oka is an incredible programmer, he has reached the highest level of programming in cg industry with ILM
i really really really enjoyed that interview! it's probably one of the better ones out there. Masi is still as hilarious as ever but there's a lot more substance in the subject matter they talk about and like someone else said, it's a lot more personal...wow...
John Baptist the best thing is when I'm wearing contacts and I do it out of habit. I either poke myself in the eye or I catch myself early enough to make poor attempt to disguise it as scratching.
Impressive intellectual prowess rarely affects one's ability to express themselves using language. To get better at a skill, one must hone and develop it. Masi clearly excels at many aspects of life but English is his second language. Not only did he only start learning English about halfway through his life so far, his everyday interaction with close friends, relatives, and his own culture are primarily done in Japanese.
@AnimationDisneyFan Yeah, Masi is incredibly well-spoken. In fact, he was the spokesman for the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) campaign that as going on in the third-world countries.
I've never seen Heroes and there are still so few Asian actors with contract roles that I thought this interview covered fascinating ground. I found this interview only b/c I was wondering if his accent on H50 was real. The interviewer had clearly done his homework and chose off-the-beaten-path topics - from his absentee father, to his work at ILM, and expectations. If I want behind the scenes, buddy stories, etc, I can get that from ET or Extra. A big thumbs up from me for being out of the box.
High IQ certainly doesn't mean high all around intelligence. But it usually means that the person has a good grasp of mathematical and pattern related concepts. Masi Oka writes animation programs for ILM so it fits the profile quite well.
Anyone else think Masi Oka should be Beetee in the next Hunger Games movie? They'll just have to use makeup to give him a few more years and he would be perfect! ^^
he pronunce some vowels slightly japanese. Especially when he does pauses, like at 7:09 "but.. ahh" The A is japanese. But he's facile in American like any US guy.
if his interview subjects are so diverse, how come he's never had an asian on?? that makes no sense. asia is so huge and americans are slowly going to have to stop ignoring them or seeing them as chinese people who are good at math...
I hate the idea ABCs are smart. Smart is very objective and highly depends on the perspective. If smart ONLY mean academic scientific yes asian have a very large percentage of success in that area. But for me outside of that i find we are almost idiots when it comes to creative and emotive. I constantly fight to balance the two and gave up on hoping Chinese decendant would learn the importance. (FYI my surname is Wong)
Ohhhh the host laughed his ass off when Masi said "bad driver" but that's something he wanted to say but couldn't. MESSED UP!!!! Who's Tavis Smiley? I never heard of him, but he seems to interview lots of big stars. He must new? He's sooo black!! He was talking soo fast and murmuring sometimes... but that's funny. lmao.
such an amazing interview and such an amazing interviewer :) you hardly hear such well thought of questions
Masi Oka is a big part of Heroes being great!
YATAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
Man, what an awesome guy. I had no idea he worked on Star Wars.
YATTAAAAAA!!!
I came here to listen to his English accent lol
and WOW! He's so fluent!
Do you find it uncommon for Asians to speak English so well? For Asians raised in the US, we speak as well as any other American.
I'm sure the person came here to hear his true accent, because in Heros.. Well his english is pretty horrible. It's the reason I'm here.
In Heroes, when he spoke English he sounded like he hardly spoke it at all so it's weird hearing him speaking it so well in person.

it's impossible to hate this guy. I don't know why, it just is.
He has this presence that you just can't hate.
I friggin' love this guy.

the best interview made to oka kun, finally, no generic questions, no "show me the face" petitions...the interview showed us who Masayori is as a person...brilliant.

He's not only cute, but he speaks great!

it's funny how the host talks
Actually there is a Volume 4, it's still part of Season 3. Season 4 is Volume 5.
Nice video. Liked hearing his personal side too. What if we find out that George Takai is really his father??!!
High IQ certainly doesn't mean high all around intelligence. But it usually means that the person has a good grasp of mathematical and pattern related concepts. Masi Oka writes animation programs for ILM so it fits the profile quite well.

But he's facile in American like any US guy.
His IQ is in the 180 range. His English is really good considering that he speaks fluent Japanese.
wow i just barely met my biological father poor masi he hasnt even met his
I'm convinced this guy was my guild leader. WIKIPEDIA IS WRONG. This guy is on Thunderlord dammit
Kaboom lol XD
he plays hiro like an idiot but masi is completely smart !YATTA!
@goupanddown Is Japanese could lack practice and vocabulary but if that's not an accent... then what it is?
He's so cute when he squints (no homo); like a little brown Pikachu ^.^
he sounds wayyy wierder when he talkes in english on thw show!
this interviewer can ask any asian. i have nothing against masi oka (in fact quite the oppsite) but why masi oka of all the asian's he could ask?
His accent! It's disappearing!
@pyt82 hmm I wouldn't say it's an accent though. I mean his Japanese isn't that great.
if his interview subjects are so diverse, how come he's never had an asian on?? that makes no sense. asia is so huge and americans are slowly going to have to stop ignoring them or seeing them as chinese people who are good at math...

wow. Masi's IQ hit the ceiling? I hope he didn't hit is forehead on his way outta Japan.
why wouldn't you want to "slam" single mothers?
every season gets worse and worse and worse and worse and worse
lol... sorry i've had bad experiences with stupid people... who happen to be american... no offence.
Ohhhh the host laughed his ass off when Masi said "bad driver" but that's something he wanted to say but couldn't. MESSED UP!!!!
