Gandhies have certainly become irrelevant in todays politics however its their enablers that Indians should be wary of. India needs a strong multi party system but these enablers, for their self interest, are hindering reform attempts within the party. Even as a BJP supporter I do not wish to see all Indian states being controlled by one party alone. One believes the reason every neta in the Congress wants to have the Gandhis at the helm is they don't want any other neta to be the boss. For eg. why would a Ashok Gehlot be willing to give absolute power to a Sachin Pilot or a Adhir Chowdhury & become a subordinate. As long as a Gandhi is there; I don't have to be under a fellow colleague.

I won't say Gandhis should go away from central leader ship, but they should give more power to youth leaders. What happened in Rajasthan, they simply used and thrown him away after elections. Even the same in Madhya pradesh on Scindia. They should be more on the central power and give the state leadership to youth and hard working leaders

I have been writing for past over a year that congress should elect a new President. I had suggested couple of names including Sachin Piolet and PK. I was happy when congress had serious discussions with PK but was upset when talks failed. I had also sugeested congress to put a leash on Sidhu if they want to win Punjab but no action was taken and the result is in front of you. Now in the coming elections Rahul Gandhi should step aside and let Sachin should take-over with Sonia Gandhi as the chairperson otherwise the congressmen will not let him function. Once he establishes than only Sonia Gandhi can retire. If G23 or others have any other names, they may suggest and let them fight out the election in August/September and revive the congress. I also suggest they should have 4 VP's under the President for East, West, North and South and electiond were held for these posts too along with other positions if congress wants to come back in the coming elections. Rahuls Gandhi can be VP for South or appointed as an advisor to President till the President is well settled.

I hear Sashi Tharoor's deafening silent and spineless eloquence......that never happened. This sad coterie of selfserving specimens remind me of another episode in cinema history from the film, Gandhi. One may recall when M. K. Gandhi is invited to join the INC, he had said, " Here we make speeches for each other. India is not a handful of lawyers in Bombay. India is 700,000 villages". He then left on a 2 year journey to discover and document true India. I don't think there is a single " leader" in today's Congress who has such mettle or character.

What is the wisdom/rational behind expecting a different outcome by repeating the same resources and strategies. Some thing has to change for a different outcome. The Gandhis’ questionable and ineffective leadership, obviously, is not the answer.

  • @RicaRod

Congressmen have always been at the mercy of Gandhi charisma in olden days where brifcase laden cash would clamour for tickets. Today this situation does not exists. The Gandhi's do not have that charisma of Rajeev Gandhi. The Congress need to have charismatic leaders in the states who are not relying on sycophancy. Rahul Gandhi makes it clear to congress leaders that he is not leading the current congress leaders from the front. He wants to blame the leaders instead and asking them to leave the party which is dangerous as has been the case seen by the results in Punjab. Rahul Gandhi has given space for AAP instead. He should atleast find a successor who can induct new leaders even if he does not like the old ones. Congress needs a good CEO
