    Serious artists at work. I like the wharf idea where the "water" is not modeled, just the edge along the industry siding. Great idea.

    @djstrains I'm glad you got a chance to see this and share it with your audience! I was totally blown away when I visited 10 years ago, and they have continued to improve on what was amazing back then. Michelle and crew do a fantastic job there, and anyone who is within striking distance should make time to visit them.

    The ships that are on the wheels are remote controlled and run in water. I don’t remember how long it’s been since they have done so. There’s also what’s called Docent mode, where a computer runs the layout and operates the blocks. It’s and incredible system. The push buttons that activate scenes are a hit with kids and of course the LEGO display adds a bit of whimsy too.

    • @djstrains

    @thomasdecker7631 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow! Love the old tanker and the Fitz. The lake boats on my layout will be a lot older (read smaller) as the 729 ft. Fitz would take up one whole side of my layout, a rural Michigan shortline.

  • @SD45-ET44AC
    @SD45-ET44AC ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My theme is the KISS theory. The staging area alone makes my layout look absolutely tiny, so maybe this RR might be greater than I originally gave it credit for. Mea culpa.
    This gives me lots of ideas, like win the lottery, buy a warehouse & start a club.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha

    • @SD45-ET44AC
      @SD45-ET44AC ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You laugh but with a warehouse I could … wait, I haven’t even finished this layout and I want to build a warehouse layout with money that I don’t have and it isn’t my life’s goal, nor is model railroading. But this does keep me occupied and my wife knows where I’m at and Jesus loves me so … no worries! Enjoy today and don’t put off until tomorrow because if you like it today then you can do it again tomorrow!

    The Co model RR museum was truly amazing. One massive loop with two way traffic and passing sidings, over 40 minutes for one loop. Did they show you the staging yard hidden in back? I let anybody I know, if your going to Co. you must go to Greenly. And that operation system is awesome, the whole thing truly beautiful. How bout that forest fire scene. I did get to that wharf area as well. Spent the whole day there.

    Great video of this amazing layout! Words can't describe how impressive that is! I liked it so much I watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything. Very impressed with the lumber yard at the beginning and I'd do that too but with my nerve disease in my hands I couldn't build 1 kit let alone 7. And the other big industrial building where he took several to make one big one. Thanks again DJ for sharing this video with us along with your PRICELESS time and effort my friend! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.

    When you got to the ship, I had to rewind back to start , I was seeing $$$ and time.
    The club answered that one. A truly spectacular model.
    The Edmund Fitzgerald, I feel, wasn't just a model it was a memorial to the 29 crew members.

      Sylvan also has some nice lake freighters in HO, especially for modelers who don't mind climbing aboard the wayback machine.The lumber hooker Langell Boys (1890- 1931) and the motor vessel White Swan (1922-1956) are sized to fit most layouts.

    Once I got to know some staff members I got to go into that staging, I personally think better than the Wunderland in Hamburg Germany. Even with that working airport. I can advise you, the Northlunds in Flemington NJ. OMG , don’t bother. It looks like an old man who had too much money and decided to build a model RR. Then hired the worst people he could find to do so. To the average person maybe because the just don’t know, but to a model railroader you will be extremely disappointed. The best thing in there is that giant pipe organ that have. I think they have birthday parties there.

      Actully, you're 2/3 right. Lake sailors, to this day, refer to their vessles as "boats" even if they're a thousand feet long, so the Fitz was, in Great Lakes parlance, a boat.

      it's the sense of depth, created by the mirrors and photo-colage backgrounds. it forces your eye to veiw a "scene", an overview, when your brain is SCREAMING to look at the tinyist details. you'd have to be there in-person i suppose, but it must be almost overwhelming. maybe i'll get there someday.....excellent video. liked and subscribed
