      Great ballistic video, I just wish there was a chronograph for these .25acp ammo rounds. I trust hard cast about as much as a copper jacket. I want to say these rounds get about 100-130fpe in small pistol size and that a chronograph would be better.

    .25 ACP is more capable than .22LR, although it's pretty close.
    The misconceptions come from .22LR velocities being listed from like 24"+ test barrels & .25 ACP being tested from tiny pocket guns.
    Seeing Buffalo Bore load one up properly shows that better than I can explain it.

    • @rubenprata8272
      @rubenprata8272 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it is not!! At all! You seem not to know that theres specific .22 ammo for small barrels, design dor personal defense, reaching 1000 ot more fps and more than 200 joules of energy. .25acp, even these buffalo bore, doesnt come even close. In addition, there's no good guns in .25, basically old 50 years old junk that jams once every 5 shots. You have extremely high quality and high capacity .22 pistols today

    The BB velocity is the secret of its success more so than the added weight and flat nose. At grossly subsonic speeds, meplats don't add anything over round nose and you can see the meplat round did cause a malfunction - regardless of the excuse made for it. Standard 25ACP usually averages about 750fps which means a 100fps+ increase is 14% faster with the 60gr bullet providing 96 fpe, versus 62 fpe for the 50gr. at 750fps. That's a solid 34 fpe increase or 54% greater energy, concentrated across the same cross-section. But, if the standard 50gr. RN was also loaded to 850fps it would give 80 fpe which is right at 30% more energy in a more reliable jacketed round nose.
    If the 25 pistol safely fired the heavy BB load without damage, then ALL 25 ACP ammo could be loaded hotter, but as is typical with an industry that won't be standing there when you need to defend your life with their product, everything is deliberately underloaded. This doesn't much matter when talking about the 500 S&W and such, but with the 25 ACP the difference in 100fps is substantial.
    A bullet that can pass through nearly 30 inches of gel can pass through a human torso or skull with ease, and 9 shots properly placed will do the job - biggly.

    Pretty good performance. Any other caliber this design would be for a different purpose, but in the .25 the design is to just make it comparable to .380 ACP hollow points, sort of. Goes from almost worthless to, maybe okay. Makes me wonder, if .22 Mag and .25 ACP went head to head in comparable guns, which one would be more effective with the best ammo offerings.

    • @professorpewpuew
      @professorpewpuew  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That is a good test idea. In general, people say that the 22 LR has more power but that wood test has me thinking otherwise. Plain 50 grain ball and 40 grain 22 LR solids have basically the same ballistic coefficient and the former went deeper in that particular test.

    Huge fan of cast bullets. I have cast and shot various calibers for 50+ years. I now coat any of em with HT coat. it is really only recently that ammo makers have been doing cast bullets. the advantage of cast over jacketed is that you can get higher velocity with less pressure and really? expansion is rare in any case at that velocity with even jacketed HP ammo. The other interesting thing is the flat point design. All my cast loads are either SWC or flat point with the .30 Carbine for my BH being about as close to the BB flat point as I have tried. But if they won't feed I have no use for em

      I shot 28 rounds through my SA Jetfire (950B) today without any sort of failure. I know that's not a lot, but they costs $2.50 per round! Anyhow, you can tell that these are more powerful loads than your typical 25 round. For that reason, I wouldn't shoot a ton of these bullets through an alloy frame gun like the Jetfire. These are point and shoot guns, so a lot of target practice beyond function tests isn't necessary anyhow.

    I wish they would make a 25 caliber pistol cartridge with the same case length as a 9mm (.750"). And make it really high pressure, I want 1200 fps with a 60 grain bullet. I want it in a pistol like the Bersa thunder with a single stack magazine, and a browning BDA pistol with a compact double stack magazine. Lastly, a Ruger 10-22 like rifle with drum mags and full auto switch. Basically, some automatic 22's that are a little more powerful with more reliable feeding with center-fire primers and rebated rims, which are more reliable in magazines than rimfire cartridges.

    Do you think these would act as a +P pressure wise in a pot metal Raven? Or it'll hold up?

      The Raven barrel is steel. Since no .25s use a locking barrel, they're all the same in terms of the action cycling.

    If you look at where the 25 hit it was in a knot and the 380 was in the grain. I do not like board tests get that same board and use a hatchet and chop it down the middle and you'll see. Beretta's are notoriously ammo picky. It would have been better if you fired the 380 in the gel as well.

    • @professorpewpuew
      @professorpewpuew  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a 21A. It will be safe to shoot but the flat point might not agree with the feed ramp of your pistol. Best test it first.

      I purchased 2 boxes of it. That ammo does NOT fit into the tip up barrel of my Jetfire, it doesnt sit flush, thus preventing the breach from being closed. Buffalo Bore says my pistol must be out of wack, I'm trying to find someone with a Jetfire to tell me if it's the ammo or my gun.
      Thanks for replying

    Hello James, IMHO the 21A Bobcat is inferior to the 950 JetFire. My Bobcat (which I no longer own) was very ammo sensitive, while the 950 has processed every manufacturer and loading I have tried. I will order both Buffalo Bore loadings, try them in my 950, and let you know the outcome. Thanks again for another informative video.

      Hello Harold. I went on to test the other Buffalo Bore 50 grain FMJ load. It functioned flawlessly. I like my Bobcat but no question it is a thicker gun than it needs to be compared to the Jetfire.

    • @professorpewpuew

      There isn't much penetration with a 25. Going hard cast, heavy for caliber, and pushing it a little faster is so you can get as much as possible.
