Merle Haggard - How To Play Workin Man Blues Guitar Lesson

  • Go to countryguitarchops.com for the tab and jam tracks for this guitar lesson to help you learn how to play Workin Man Blues, played similar to how James Burton played it on the Merle Haggard recording. Check out the many other free lessons there too.
This is how I play one of many various lead guitar solos that I would play over the Working Man Blues type progression country guitar style. I hope you enjoy the instruction I've given here. You can find the tab along with a full length fast and slow jam track on my website. Thanks, Ken Carlson

This is the best lesson I've ever seen. I've been trying to pick for 50 years. You're not a show-off. Your videos are very clear and I think I finally going to get it down. I'm 66, retired and I'm really enjoying the lessons. I'll get back to you when I finally get it. I want to go from there and do more. I know it takes a lot of patience to make a lesson this way. I really appreciate it.

Been workin days on this one. Be days more til i get it all.
Be months before i can rip it. But i will rip it.
    thanks dude.
Had to set the needle back many, many, many, uh repeatedly many times.
Start my day with this lesson and work on it for hours.
Seems ideal for a thumbpick. makin due with a flat pick.
    Thanks fer a great lesson.

Hi Danny! Thanks for the comment. The banjo "locking" tuner (made by Schaller and Kieth), has 2 set screws. You tune your E string to the proper pitch and tighten the first thumb screw. Next, you tune down to what ever pitch you want, D being the most popular, and tighten the other thumb screw.
Now you just turn the tuning key back and forth the go from the E to drop D. I've been using them for 20 years and like them a lot. Hope this helps!

busted my pinky and ring finger recently - you've given me inspiration to continue to play - this will be the second time - a while back cut my arm in half with a skill saw and used the guitar for therapy - it worked wonders... great tips and step by step lesson - I find it a little weird because I used to just play straight cords C7, F and G.
