Beautiful colors! That Denise's green! Violet iron oxide and Indian red!Whhhaat? Happy Birthday! I really enjoy real time videos and swatching theres just something about a real time video. Have a great day
Wonderful swatchwork! It looks like Denise's Earth-friendly palette plus a Payne's Gray would be ideal for me. Thanks, Miranda! And enjoy your celebrations. ✨❄
Denise actually just released an updated palette that includes her newest color, stormy blue, which is a dark neutral. Seems pretty similar to a Paynes gray in my eyes.
Hi Miranda! Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing this palette with your viewers. It was so fun to see the salt tests since that's not a technique I use! I hope you continue to enjoy them :)
I love them, thank you. Your palette changes from the video you released today look perfect. I loved seeing all those beautiful swatches and color mixed with the Embrace Opacity palette. ✨️
Beautiful colours ! I love the greens and the purple, especially. Have a wonderful Christmas and a great birthday, Miranda, with your family, puppy and cats.
Awww, thank you so much for the wonderful shout-out. I appreciate it and you. Great swatching! Good luck on your No Buy and if you have any questions or just need someone to commiserate with, drop me a line. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Isn't that Seaglass just so pretty? I'm looking forward to using these all in a painting - I wish I had time to put that into this video, but I won't get to it until after Christmas now. Something to look forward to!
Oh, I admit I'm jealous of everyone getting the opaque palette. Maybe I should have after all... Well, I just went back to their website in the middle of this comment and resisted buying it once again. LOL! Thank you and Feliz Navidad. :-)
I watched your last video and decided to finally buy Denise’s palette… and the autumn colors… and the Sea glass. I just finished swatching and they’re all gorgeous!
So many lovely colours. That DaVinci Red is beautiful! As is the Seaglass….oh all of them! think I’ll be on a Low Buy but haven’t quite planned it out. Only a few more days to decide, aaaaahhhh! 😂 I hope you have a very merry Christmas, and a happy birthday too! ❤
Oh how I love Da Vinci paints! I heard about them on her In Liquid Color channel (before renamed), and got a full pan set in the same gorgeous grey palette. I am with you that the grey palette is just the right amount of different and drew me in! I saw these in your unboxing and was looking forward to this video. Sweet!
Oh, full pans would have been ideal. I will replace these with full pans eventually as I empty colors and figure out which ones I really use the most. Should be fun! It'll only take a few decades, but hey, something to look forward to. LOL!
I love live footage of swatching😍 helps to see how the paint behave 🌺 the colors are so so pretty congrats on the new palette and good luck with the no buy 👏🏽
Oh yeah, that's right! How exciting that you bought that palette. There are some colors that I really would love to have, so perhaps I'll add them to a future wish-list. Let me know what you think of them and what you end up using them the most for, if you think of it. Thanks.
that seaglass colour is gorgeous! silly Jack😝 im doing a no buy this in 2023 too, i prob should do an inventory of supplies but that would take forever
After watching Denise Soden’s video about her earth friendly palette it’s now on my wish list. I love the colors. However, I have a Roman Szmal palette on my wish list too! I’m going to wait until Jackson’s have a watercolor sale and then I might purchase the RS palette. Denise Soden’s palette will have to wait until late 2023 or 2024. Hopefully it will still be available then. 😊
I want to jump on that no buy bandwagon too!!! I have a crazy amount of watercolor palettes that I will never get thru in a lifetime, its insane. I want ALL the colors LOL Seriously, i think this is a fabulous way to start a new year, 2023 is my official NO BUY year, I have Denise's beautiful palette of course,,,lol- i have all the palettes, crazy. Have a wonderful Christmas by the way and I am a new subbie as of now :) Maria in Florida :)
Hey, I just wanted to pipe up. First I love your videos thank you for sharing with us. So, I’m thinking leave about a .25 inch on top then water from there down. You’ll see nice mast-tone on top.
Just wanted to tell you how much I love watching your videos. I started my watercolor journey over a year ago and your videos have help me when I was doubting myself. I would watch you and get awesome ideas or see paints and paper I wanted to try. So thank you so much!
I think my favorites are the mauve and the sea glass!! They're all really pretty though. I'm so excited for the no buy to start!! I think doing an inventory sounds like an awesome idea. Maybe some of us doing a no buy can do a mid year used art supply swap, for fun?? I think it would be fun, anyways. I get excited about getting mail from other humans! 😁
They are so pretty. Yes, such a great idea about the mid-year swap. And if you do an inventory, plan for about twenty more pages than you thought to write everything down, lol! :-)
Love this palette. It's stunning😍 my favourite colour is probably the violet iron oxide. I won't be doing a NO BUY next year because I am very new to the art game and don't feel like I have enough variety to experiment and learn. But most luckily I will have a NO BUY in 2024 so I get to really get to know the supplies I will be buying in the meanwhile. Also, happy holiday and happy birthday 🥳
Isn't that Violet Iron Oxide unique? I agree that a no-buy isn't for everyone. I think it's very cool that you will be learning and experimenting and purchasing new things to try next year. I look forward to seeing it on your channel! Happy holiday and thank you for the birthday wishes!
Oh how ironic that they just released a new Denise palette just after you got this?!?!? "Embrace Opacity" Oh also, the FULL dotcard is now available for purchase! I must get it! I adore the Violet Iron Oxide, and I've recently fallen in love with Raw Sienna! Interesting that the salt created backruns. Does that always happen?
Oh wow, that's great about the dot card. I went and looked for it about a week or so ago (maybe two weeks ago) and it wasn't listed at all on their website, so get it while you can! I have come to appreciate Raw Sienna more now than I used to, lol. I'm not sure about the salt question - I'll have to figure that out as time goes by. Thanks, Jenn!
Hi Miranda, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I received your calendar, and I fixed the patreon mistake. My previous debit card was blocked due to fraud activity. I have a new debit card. I changed it on another person, but it obviously did not go through. As for your Denise Soden Da Vinci paints, well they are gorgeous!
I have actually watched this umpteen times. Youngest son gifted with a very nice gift card from DaVinci and I'm trying to figure out how to make an expanded DaVinci palette as my go to. Does not help that dumb butt here bought Denise's new palette before getting the $'s. Any suggestions? Does not help that I have several tubes of DaVinci already. I believe this is a for real conundrum.🤪
Oooooh, how fun, but bummer that the gift card came afterwards, lol! Jenn said the dot card is currently available for purchase, so that might be fun to buy! Plus that beautiful seaglass and the Titan Buff are ones I like having around. Maybe refills for the opacity palette? Look at the colors you currently have and see which ones you are using the most of? I'm not sure how helpful I'm being, LOL! You'll have to let me know what you come up with.
As far as the saturation of your swatches -- you're acknowledging that you don't get masstone when you swatch a wet on wet gradient, and it's hard to get both in one swatch. I agree. Of course when you're swatching a gradient you WANT to see the tint and not the masstone. So in my opinion, these actually need to be two separate swatches. When I swatch, I do a strip of masstone on top, and a wet on wet gradient below, separated by dry paper. Teoh shows this method of making swatch cards in one of his videos, and I copied him. (I do all my swatching on 3x5 pieces of Lanaquarelle that I cut myself). Additionally - since you used a smaller square, even though you used a smaller brush, you probably picked up more pigment per square milimeter of swatch space. And if you did it later the same day, they were sort of pre-wet. Also paints concentrate as they cure, so the ones fresh from tube can often look a little weak, next to well cured and rewetted paints. I also always think that DaVinci has a more "normal" pigmentation level that is akin to W&N's strength, rather than the "super strength" pigmentation of DS, MG and Qor. I think this is because they are older than the other American companies (so, "traditional" style paint) and also this allows them to have the lovely low prices they do! But many people prefer this strength and it is great for beginners. I notice their phthalos seemed "weak" to me after cutting my teeth on DS, but I think they actually do this on purpose, for those who actually prefer it! So maybe not a bug, but a feature. You were doing the voiceover to the phthalo blues and greens section when you wondered about the strength of your swatches in the voiceover!
Yes, I left the top part of each swatch dry, but it wasn't quite enough, and I did mention in the video that I would consider going over it later in a mass-tone on top in a stripe, but I haven't done that yet. Some of what you are saying and then my own experience doing this in the video makes me think I might want to do my big watercolor project a little differently. I'm going to have to give it some serious thought. When I was re-watching the video, the colors seemed perfectly vibrant, of course. 🙂
@@MirandaWatsonArt Honestly my best advice for achieving full saturation is to is prewet pans, and use lots of paint! Use more paint than you think you have to. Remember when you're using a big brush, there's paint at the tip, then plain water behind it. Also, the darker the color, the worse the drying shift. So we need to use more paint than we think we need to as the color gets darker!
Lovely choices. I really like Denise's Green. The real time swatching with your chat was nice. Enjoy time with your family
Thank you. That green is so nice, isn't it?

I can't wait to buy her earth friendly set!
Yes, it's delightful!
Wonderful swatchwork! It looks like Denise's Earth-friendly palette plus a Payne's Gray would be ideal for me. Thanks, Miranda! And enjoy your celebrations. ✨❄
Ah yes, a Payne's Gray would be the absolute perfect addition. One of my most favorite colors to have in a palette.

Isn't it a great selection of colors? I really love them. Thank you for the Christmas and birthday wishes. Have a great Christmas season as well!
Looking forward to your huge watercolor project for next year. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

Yes, absolutely. I've really enjoyed following your no-buy, and hope others will join me (some are already!). Thank you. ❤️
@@MirandaWatsonArt You're welcome and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Wow the salt really reacted with all of them too!
Yeah, it's fun to see that effect. :-)
I have fallen in love with soulshine, it looks like it could be a good color for sunflowers. I wish they had that one in a palette.
What a great name.
I love Da Vinci watercolors!! And that Sea Glass I need to buy 😍

Beautiful colors included in this set. I love the puppy chasing the box at the end too cute!
