  • Alicia's story is heartbreaking. She rented an apartment in Venice Beach, California for 17 years. Alicia is now homeless and sleeps on the same street where she once rented because that's where she feels safe. Alicia says in this interview: "the beach was once my heaven, but now it's kind of my hell."
Alicia how now lived on the streets for two years. She says she's had a lot of bad things happen in her life but none if it compares to being a homeless woman in Los Angeles. Alicia feels homelessness is a no way out situation. Alicia adds: "I really feel like I'm dead because every day-to-day is not, you know, alive. When you wake up you just wait for it to be over so you can do it all over again."
Alicia told me in this interview that on her very first night being homeless, she was hated. "You're either invisible or you're an eyesore, or they just want you to go," Last year, Alicia says she cried all day and all night every day!
Alicia is at risk. You don't have to be a social worker to hear the pain in her voice caused by living homeless. If she doesn't get help soon, her whole mental state will get much worse.

    About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as TH-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

Her saying "the walk to nowhere" really made me so sad. I have been homeless with my two children and husband. We stayed at a shelter for 3 months. But we were one of the lucky ones. Found an apartment and have never looked back. I hope she finds a place of her own soon. And she has every right to cry. If you have never walked the walk of homeless then you have no right to judge.

“You just wake up and wait for it to be over to do it all over again” Getting through the day must be so tiring and the walk to nowhere must feel so lonely. I pray for her🥺😭

I wish everyone would listen to stories like this, instead of worrying about if they drive the nicest cars, live in the most fancy house. I’m ashamed to say I have a relative who is like that. I have deterioration of my spine, live on 770.00/month and appreciate what I have. My heart goes out to this woman. 😞.

This is why we should be grateful for what we have and to stop complaining

It's sad enough that people are homeless but I find it even sadder that they have no family to go to.

This is what happens when rents go up, cost of living goes up, and income stays stagnant for 50 years.

Totally 💙 breaking. I am speechless. This poor woman was abused/used/discarded by some "partner". A person must be able to keep their dignity....50+ with a 16 yr old cat and a dog, aged 9 to care for. How to move forward??????????? !!!!!!!!! This is a real dilemma for Alicia and the many others. Wish someone would step in and offer this woman an opportunity.

the ridiculous thing is that homeless people are some of the most compassionate souls you will ever meet in your life. Some of the best people I have met were homeless and blessing them with a few dollars and food ends up making my day.. Giving is receiving and if you haven't figured that out yet your soul will be homeless when you die and every homeless person will have a huge house in heaven.

Although this interview happened 2 years ago, this lady's story broke my heart. I sat here and listened to her story and cried with her and for her. I sure hope that by now, Oct 2020, she has made it off the street and has become a success story. Praying for her!!!
