This is probably the most thorough and balanced review I’ve seen of these headphones. You have pegged the FT3 perfectly! Where I’d provide some push back is in describing the FT3 as a $300 headphone. When you factor in the cost of the included accessories (case, cable, connectors), it’s actually a $200 - $230 headphone. That elevates its value in my eyes. The other point I’d make is that I consider the FT3 to be a semi open back due to its damping behind the driver. It’s definitely not a true open back. There’s not a lot of energy coming out of the back.
"A headphone that makes few errors and doesn't do much wrong" is indeed a great headphone. I describe the Theiaudio Ghost in similar phrasing. There's nothing fantastic about it but boy it's steady like a rock and my daily driver. I'm am now interested in this headphone again.
This video fits my experience with the FT3 also. They fit every genre, they are not picky on equipment, and you get zero fatigue from listening multiple hours per day. With the Fiio K7 DAC you get a budget friendly synergy that is hard to beat.
Have you ever heard any beyerdynamic tesla driver models like DT1990 Pro or Amiron Home? How doe this FT3 compare to a 250 ohm tesla driver headphone from beyer?
is it better then a HD 600? I dont know a single headphone that can compete with the HD 600 and its brothers in the price range from 200-400 euro to be honest. i defenitely wanna hear it, because Fiio always left a good impression for me. But i have never heard their headphones.
Fiio has been making iem's for a while..have you heard the lower impedence version? Wrapping the cable in a coil increases impedence... Is 4vrms enough for the high impedence version? Actually, rated 3.6, but can kick to 4.2 for transients..so the 4.4 jack is balanced right? Cables do sound different, it's not to do with price.
Bought and returned, 32ohm version.. Ananda Stealth sound is way better for 40$ more. also DT900 Pro x which are cheaper....Package and build are nice through..
@WaveTheory Do you have a suggested EQ for metal music? Like you, I am also sensitive to mid-forwardness. In some songs it feels like the mids somewhere in the 1-2k range are a tad forward.
Hey Wave, I'm thinking about buying a Cayin HA-1A MK2 for my DT880 600 ohm and my 660s2. I currently own an Xduoo TA-22 hybrid dac amp. Do you think that adding the Cayin to this chain would be great or it would be a waste of money?
OMG, coming with the XLR adaptor AND the 4.4 mm? That’s so unbelievably thoughtful!

The exact reason why I never sell my HD650.

Can confirm that he will tell us on the Discord if he likes something or not once he starts using it. 👍
Fiio were my first audio products. Later when I got acquainted with other brands I was very disappointed with all Fiio products...

Very smart cable, but I would have preferred it to be one meter shorter, and I like the look of the headphone.

not really fair to say because the 32 ohm is completely different driver. not just in impedance, but also in materials used

I don't. I'm not much of an EQer unless I absolutely have to be. It's not difficult to grab Equalizer APO and play around, though.

I haven't heard the TA-22 so I cannot meaningfully say. I can say the 1Amk2 is an excellent amp for the cans you named though.
