Great review. I just found my dad (died 20+ years ago) and now me has this exact model (2Amp). Never been used. Nice to know I can use Dremel accessories, that was my main question.
I have managed to smack the spindle against the lock after turning off power to the unit while the spindle is running out. That's user error and it's definitely less painful than on full blast. It's a good design overall.
Hello. Did you ever open it up on video? Also, have you ever disassembled a variable speed switch, such as the dremel 3000's? As in to clean the contacts and all
I have a B&D RTX that I bought from walmart years ago. I keep thinking about replacing it but it just keeps on going. It is variable speed and is just marked RTX type 1. The stamping in the case is worn but looks like 20013152.
Thank you! This was in my dad's tool box and I had no idea what it was or what to use it for. I am a crafter, so I see I will be able to use this on some of my projects. ;o)
that black and decker pecker wrecker looks like a well thought out tool. i like things that incorporate other brands designs. it makes the tool much more appealing. if a cordless tool manufacturer would design a tool that would accept other brands batteries they would make a killing
Yes it's not a bad tool if they only use it just a bit better quality of a motor was replaceable brushes it would have been really nice but I'll give them credit for putting in a strong motor
This is a dumb question but anyone know where I can buy replacement for the sanding drum on this model? I've been to all the stores and nothing seems to fit and I need to replace it. Can't seem to find any info on it either.
I love this tool! I'm ashamed that I spent so many years sticking with Dremel as they kept failing me. Oddly enough, my favorite cordless rotary tool is the Bosch 12v. The Dremel 8220 is a horrible tool. Unless you need it to start fires. And Bosch owns Dremel!!! So why they don't make their Dremels better, is silly.
I need to know what basic maintenance I should do to my unit. Should I be adding grease, if yes, what kind and where do i apply it at? I regularly blow it out at this point but I need to know what else I should be doing. Thanks
Even though I like this little unit there isn't much maintenance you can do it has a permanently sealed motor so you can't replace the brushes and the bearings last about as long as the motor does
I had this exact rotary tool except it was a single speed 0-30,000 RPM!.. it was a hand me down just like all of the bits I had were as well. LOL I had no idea certain accessories couldn’t do 30,000 RPM right out of the gate or at all so I had a lot of shit flying apart on me when I fired up and then it finally burnt itself up louder than fuck too
Yes I remember those and they work out great they're the very same thing as a router speed controller except for this not meant for his higher power as I recall those were only meant for 5 amps or less
Yeah it uses a sealed can type motor You would have to dig around and source another replacement motor And it would be cheaper just to buy another used rtx. Rtx tool not rtx nvidia video card.
I know bnd isnt even close to considering as professional grade but I have a few drills, recip saw and a belt sander . And I have to say unlike so called cheaper brands. Black n decker seem to win me over in the little things they do that is just better. Its suprising sometimes...lol
Wish these were still available for purchase. (Ebay has a couple of very used models.) Great review, thanks for posting.

Indeed
I’ve had this for years, but don’t use it much. Today of course, the day that I needed it, the speed control isn’t working.

It's good to hear that it lasts a decent amount of time even though it has non replaceable brushes
Man. I am binge watching all your videos. It feels like I have just found the gold mine somehow. Very nice!

@@CatusMaximus Have you worn out the brushes on an RTX?

My father owns one and enjoys it. The rubber grip is very comfortable and ergonomic.
Awesome video! Looking forward to the series, I'm use to the 6.99 harbor freight job so this should be interesting
Yes I will show several units going to the history of Dremel rotary tools up two more modern ones except for maybe the very newest one
in my knockoff dremel the spindle lock is really hard to press, as it is spring-loaded with a really hard spring. I guess it is an advantage
Yes they that maybe actually intentional just as you said to prevent accidental pressing when the tools operating
Great video man thanks learned a lot about dremel tools very educational thanks again
Thank you and your welcome

Correcto
Proxxon is far superior to both imo

Good info! Would think this would fit the dremel work station?

Can this tool also fits in flex shaft and some of Rotary accessories
It's nice to see a review that is actually informative by someone that actually knows what they are talking about. Well done ... cheers
Thank you
Nice job! Did you say the dremel collets will interchange w/the RTX-2?

Can i cut a Metal box slowly with it and Sand it .???
I have a old dremel power box that has a dial you turn to control speed. Just plug in anything and dial it up or down.
Yes I remember those and they work out great they're the very same thing as a router speed controller except for this not meant for his higher power as I recall those were only meant for 5 amps or less
Is it really impossible to change the brushes ?
Yeah it uses a sealed can type motor You would have to dig around and source another replacement motor And it would be cheaper just to buy another used rtx. Rtx tool not rtx nvidia video card.
Black decker rtx 650 vs rt18ka?
I like the RTX better. I has better torque IMHO.
Yeah, it's definitely got the best torque for a handheld.
I know bnd isnt even close to considering as professional grade but I have a few drills, recip saw and a belt sander . And I have to say unlike so called cheaper brands. Black n decker seem to win me over in the little things they do that is just better. Its suprising sometimes...lol
