    The first OP could have saved so much face by just lying to us and saying he was buying the PS5 for his nephew or something, and we would have all been on his side, but his complete lack of social awareness let it slip that he's a PS5 scalper, one of the most hated kinds of people online with Karens themselves. Why would you tell her that there are no more? If you hadn't, then she would've gone and looked for one and the interaction would've ended immediately.

      I can't denounce the story as fake just yet, especially when my experience with children drastically differs from yours. As someone who literally grew up volunteering at summer schools and helping my mom with her Pre-K class, I've learned kids are much smarter than we give them credit and can hilariously act like 'little people' lol. 😂My own nephew shocked me when he was only 7. He remembered things I didn't think kids his age would remember. When he turned 10, I was able to actually have a well-engaging conversation with him over things he connected to.
      So based on my experience with kids, I can't declare this story as fake because of the kid's language. We also have to remember personal recounts posted online always have the strong possibility of being altered/edited by the OP for varied reasons. Perhaps they couldn't remember the exact wording exchanged. Or maybe the wording was grammatically way off that they fixed it during post. Whatever the reason, all personal accounts posted online will not be 100% accurate to what really happened, especially if the OP doesn't want to bore/confuse the audience.
      Finally, Tenshi Chan's comment here rings TRUE. Plenty of parents make promises they can't keep. As I just revealed from my experience, kids DO remember. They start keeping track of things when it personally matters to them. Even more, if that child is being raised by a parent who uses emotional manipulation/pressure to get things their way (which is what all Karens do), that child will LEARN and pick up on that habit and use it against their parent (in this case, the kid reminds the mom of how long they've been breaking their promise and is actively guilt-tripping the mom to get them that PS5).
      So yea. In conclusion, kids aren't stupid.

Flipping sounds more like reselling - it’s not targeted, maybe you purchase a game at a garage sale because you know you can find an interested buyer. You’re adding your knowledge of the market to generate more profit. I think it’s a fine line, but scalping preys on others. It's weird logic anyway. Kids are sponges for languages at that age, they can pick up 3 or 4 no bother with minimal effort, even a 'dumb' kid. Once they're older, it gets progressively harder. Literally every 'good parenting' book or course or professional will encourage teaching any language the parents know, the more the better. If they were refusing to teach her English at all, and only Spanish, then sure, that *might* make life harder depending on where they were going to be living by then, but knowing a second language as a child doesn't make you bad at the first at all!

    • @akl2k7
      @akl2k7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SuzanneRush Plus, knowing Spanish will help with dealing with Spanish-speakers when the kid's older, of which there are 500,000,000 across the western hemisphere and Europe. It also has a lot of roots in common with English (mainly high-brow vocabulary shared with Latin) and being able to speak it will help the kid understand Italian and regional languages of Spain quite well along with giving the kid the ability to read Portuguese and, to a more limited extent, French. It will also give the kid a huge boost in case she decides to learn any of those in the future.
      So, there are far more advantages to learning it than not.

      Right? My kid has always been advanced academically and he was often frustrated by his classes and felt like they were holding him back or punishing him.
      We did get lucky with some teachers when he was little that went out of their way to give him his own assignments.
      Like in 1st grade when all the other kids had to write a paragraph about their favorite animal, my kid got to write an essay about WWII. Or other kids would give book reports on picture books, but the teacher would have him give reports on chapter books.
      But not all teachers can/will meet kids where they are like that, and not all subjects lend themselves to that kind of work (ex: that teacher had to give my kid a book of multiplication and division problems and a book of logic problems to do during math class, because otherwise he’d start talking and making trouble out of boredom).
      My kid also lagged socially for a long time because when he talked about things, his peers didn’t understand him or just told him he was weird.
      Now that he’s a teen he’s caught up, but it was rough for a while.
      A school like that would have been awesome.

      I went to a school like this once a week as a child (the rest of the week I was at a public school). As an adult, I’m so thankful that my family found out about and encouraged me to do this. The “gifted” school helped to keep me mentally stimulated, and the public school helped me learn the basics and how to socialize (in large part due to ensuring I was exposed to kids of all types, rather than isolating my social experience - I think this really helped me with my EQ). For example, in 4th grade, my chosen “gifted” school classes were Shakespearean Theatre (we ended the semester by performing ‘Taming of the Shrew’) and Robotics (where we programmed a Lego car using DOS). Meanwhile, I was learning the more traditional curriculum most of the week; like fractions, cursive, and the cycle of life. I highly recommend any parents that feel like this is something that would benefit their kid to try to get it to happen (if it’s available where they live - I wish this scenario was available everywhere tbh). Speaking of, this happened in a town of 120,000 in middle America, not a big city - so it may be available, but not known about (thankfully we’ve got Google nowadays to help with the search).

    Another mom I know has pushed her daughter (2nd grade and friends with my 1st grader) into gymnastics and all these things that she can show off. But she doesn't push academics at all, because you can't flaunt that easily. Her poor kid hears my kiddo reading words that she has trouble sounding out and doing math that she is struggling with and I just see this look of defeat in the kid's face. She isn't dumb, her mom just doesn't care about academics and would rather compete with her siblings vicariously through their kids.

    Honestly I don't remember much about my childhood but I remember being told that when I was very young I had my IQ tested because of my speech problems (I might remember this but I thought it all was a vision test and basic stuff LMAO) and I don't even think I finished half the test when the instructor told mom my IQ wasn't the issue, I never put much faith in stuff like a metric able to state the intelligence of an individual but I still wonder if I could have been more without my apraxia of speech getting in the way, it literally made me give up school around 2 or 3 grade and my parents started thinking I was suicidal shortly after because I tried to be as illogical as the other students, plus with all the bullying I gave up on people (I actually lost "friends" because they thought my voice was interesting or funny). I know my story isn't the saddest but it always hits harder when its happening to you

    • @DoctorOaks
      @DoctorOaks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never liked the name of the IQ test because it's not even really a measure of intelligence. It's a measurement of PART of the intelligence. Mainly your ability to solve problems and reason. Having a high one also tends to mean you're lacking some in other areas that SHOULD be treated as important too, but aren't.

    • @rangergxi

      The issue with IQ is that it is psuedoscience. There is no inherent brainpower that can be measured. Learning is about discipline and taking the time to learn something.

I figured out and used the coping skills on my own that they teach kids now so that weird you are inferior to your sister stuff is just sad to me. My sister is incredibly smart but her ease in school in the early years caused them to miss her ADHD so when she hit the point where discipline and sitting to do boring to her work she almost flunked out. Stephen J Gould in the book The Mismeasure of Man talks about how IQ tests have been flawed from the start.(To clarify I don’t see my sister as lacking discipline her brain, all her kids, and even my spouse require help to do certain things)

He already has one. He doesn't deserve the blatant racism, she's an AH for that 🤦🏻‍♀️. I know they were entitled and had bad behavior, but that p5 was supposed to go to the little boy who was looking for 2 YEARS. "maybe I can flip it and make some money". In the first story scalpers like OP are THE reason why there aren't any PS5's in the wild in the first place! Definitely an everyone sucks situation, except for the sales person and the cop (and the kid, although it's harder to say). Not only does scalping force potential legit buyers to pay more (don't buy from scalpers, btw) it also makes getting customer support more difficult if there's something wrong with the console. Scalpers also don't buy games per console like normal buyers would, so it also hurts Sony, which is why I don't understand why they aren't trying to do anything about it.

  • @BeeWhistler
    @BeeWhistler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Man, I hate to say this, but were any of those stories real? The only one that doesn’t sound made up is maybe the middle one because it was brief and ended the way stuff like that usually does, with OP just trying to get away from the loser and the old lady pulling the “well I just think you should do this because I mean well and that makes me right” because many older ladies butt in with that exact rationale. But the other two? The first one reads like a textbook made up store Karen but the last one… who carries a five year old? Five year olds are not small. It’s technically possible to carry them but you generally would rather not to that to yourself and by that age kids generally expect to walk everywhere themselves. And the convenient confession by the kid? The multiple outbursts of “how dare you” don’t track either… does anyone even say that anymore? She just happened to find out which test they use from some random doctor who was willing to help her cheat? Sounds like an amateur writer trying to contrive a way for them to have been able to cheat without really having any idea how they’d be able to cheat.
    And the description of the school was frankly irritating. I understand the appeal of hanging out with other weirdos, that sounds lovely, but the whole “we can tell if their IQ is high enough just by talking to them” stuff was so pretentious. What an insufferable generalization. How about an after school program for kids who just don’t blend in at school, and save the judgment?

  • @PaladinGear15
    @PaladinGear15 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I've heard, on the rare occasions parents cheat and lie to get their kids into places they're not fit for, the kid is a complete fish out of water, has no idea what's going on, fails everything, then the crazed parents who forced their kid into this situation either blame the kid, berate and scold them, or they blame the teachers for "picking on their baby and forcing them to fail".
