I was in 8th grade when I had to start wearing rubber bands. I remember sitting in science class trying to put one on, mind you I was sitting in the front row when it shot out of my mouth hit my teacher right between the eyes. I was modified. I had to wear 2 on each side. So I feel for her.

Oh no! That sounds so awful, especially as a middle schooler because those years are all awkward. Luckily she's getting better at them and is feeling way more confident!
