Just inherited a 2005 DeVille/DTS from my mom. I feel like an "old man" in it. BUT DAMM...I touch the peddle and I'm at warp speed in no time. Have to say: I owned a CTS coupe Platinum and love everything about it. Had a ELR. Had a Fleetwood even...... however this DTS is something else. Comfortable, stable and lets face it : a true AMERICAN Road Yacht! The Mercedes, BMW's and Audi's I've owned in my life do NOT compare. to this chariot. This one is definitely a keeper. America is still great.....besides a dictators opinion.
They never "fixed it completely" even the generation after this body style 06-11 had head gasket issues....the chances of a head gasket issue is far less likely though on 04 and forward Northstars
NHP which is the later of the northstar engines that I believe started in late 2004. 31mm coarse thread bolt as opposed to the 26mm bolt on the earlier models make for a lot less chance of head gasket issues.
Love these. Had an 03' DHS that I bought with 25k miles. I totaled him @ 113k. Loved it so much now I have a 08', same color silver, all the same options down to the massaging seats & sunshade. I named this one Gladys.
Great reviews man. Really enjoy that fact that you do some pre-owned reviews since a majority of people when deciding will look at used/Pre-Owned Cars just as much as they will look at New Cars.
These older Cadillac's are great cars!!! I have a 2005 Deville as my first car and I love it. Very good build quality, very safe, well built, and very reliable IF maintained properly. My parents still drive a 1995 Seville SLS since it was a few years old. We always kept it maintained and it is one of the best cars we ever had and still is. It is still running strong to this day. Never any problems beside basic maintenance. I would love to buy a Deville DTS like this one here. They really are worth putting money into since you are getting a lot of car and luxury for a really low price! That's what I plan on doing. I will always be driving these older Cadillac's.
theMediaMart Thank you. Only two days ago, I bought another Deville. Its a 2001 Crimson Red Pearl with all options and extra chrome Stainless trim package. Its got only 50k and its Beautiful!!! I knew the owners for several years and I remember when they bought it. They always wanted me to have it since I love Cadillac's. They now bought a 2005 Deville DTS. It looks very much like this car here!!! And i still have my 05 Deville special edition as my daily driver. Every time i get in and start it up, I fall in love all over again. I really am very very pleased and nothing is going to get me out of it!!! I can guarantee you, I will eventually buy their 05 DTS someday to add to my Cadillac collection. I hope this car here is still doing great.
The Northstar engine is one of GM finest products , the 4 valves per cylinder go a long way to add power and torque to this high performance automobile .I'm looking at one now .They are a great vaue for the used car dollar
ok when is going to punch it ..I love to hear northstars ??.... these cars are like arrows on the highway and you don't realize you're going fast sometimes but slow cruising is like being on a couch lol
I recently traded in my '04 Deville with over 180k miles, never had any major problems with it. Same color as the one in the video. I've sat in a '11 model at the Detroit Auto Show and was disappointed at how much smaller the inside was than my '04. Backseat was about 80% previous width, less leg room in front and back with front seat all the way back. Drivers seat all the way to the floor had less head room...no gas mileage gains, so who knows why they made it so disappointing.
@TheSnapChick Why Thank you! It was a blast to film -- Troy is a character! Thanks so much for watching and commenting on my video :) it means a lot! Tony
Good review. I owned two of these cars. A 2000 Deville DTS and a 03 DTS. The one thing you should change on your video description is that this is a "Deville DTS" not just a DTS. In 2006 they changed the body style a little and called it just simply a DTS. I owned a 06 DTS as well. My Deville DTS were a bit more optioned up then this guys car. I had navigation and Night Vision in mine. But I loved both of them.
Great Car. Mine has 98,000 mi. Pick up is insane. Only downside is the battery is big and flat and under back seat and the Northstar takes 8 qts. of oil and I use $ynthetic.
I love this car. I had a 2000 Cadillac DeVille with chrome rims, door handles and accents. My DeVille did 0-60 in 6 seconds! Man i miss my Caddy. It fell victim as many of the Northstar engines did to a blown head gasket.
J W Just keep them maintained properly and they are Great running cars. I have a 2005 Deville with the Livery package as my first car. I love it very much and I plan to keep it a very long time. These older Cadillac's are great. Forget the new ones. They don't even resemble Cadillac's anymore.
Great review, very entertaining. I have a white diamond '04 Deville and it is still a beautiful car. Saw an episode of COPS where a 16 yr old kid took this model car and left the police cruiser far behind! Even the officer radio'd in that he coudn't keep up with the Caddy. The kid eventually wrecked it but was alright. As far as suggestions on other models, I've always like the late 90s Mercedes S-Class. Built like a tank, was criticized for being "over-engineered". Love the way the window
I have a 1973 4dr caddy and just purchased an 08 DTS waiting to get shipped to me now. Only 65k miles color is (gold mist) beautiful car never had one so I'm excited 💯💯 nice video champ
@slyguyaction Thanks Ryan! Troy is a Character indeed! I'll look for the Lincoln Town Car. Have you seen my review of the MKS? Sweet ride! Happy New Year!
I´m looking at one 2002 , but I read and people tell me they break down all the time. Is that true ?? I hate to buy one and having to put money into it , but I drive very little . Please tell me Thank´s
ragnar Barker They are very good IF they are maintained PROPERLY. Its sad that some people that had these cars DID NOT maintain them the righ tway which lead to having problems. I have a 2005 Deville myself as my first car and I love it. Never any problems. The years that were more prone to problems were 1997-1999 due to an internal change in the engine. 2000-2011 are very good. Hope this helps.......
I own a 2008 Cadillac DTS but there are a lot of issues with it if you want performance. I have a video of driving mine on my channel. Its personally super slow in my opinion due to it being super heavy with only 300hp give or take a little more or less. It also handles like a boat and feels like your driving a cloud around. I'm planning to use this as a daily driver until it conks out but looking to buy a 2012 CTS-V tomorrow after i check it out.
Dude please tell me more about the DTS I'm I'm the market for a 06-09 DTS, I've driven one once and was highly disappointed with the steering and handling felt so bland like Lincoln town carish lol,it definitely held no candle to my 01 Seville STS not even close by a long shot, please tell me some pros and cons you've endured since owning one.
+Radicalized Online I own a like new 2008 DTS. The DTS is for the traditional Cadillac buyer so it has a floaty traditional Cadillac ride. The ride is not as soft as 70's and 80's Cadillac's but the handling is not as sloppy. Most of the popular features are standard so they are an unbeatable value. The only cons I see are some of the interior pieces are cheap and the power trunk pull down is no longer available. The Northstar in these model years does not require stopleak tablets and I've seen some with 180,000 miles with no headgasket problems. If you prefer handling and performance, get a DTS performance model. They have a more powerful Northstar engine and a performance tuned driveline and suspension. I have a nicely loaded traditional model and I'm quite happy with it.
+Radicalized Online Turning radios also isn't the best. The interior has a lot of plastic but for the price it isn't bad. Just wish it had a little more power to lets say 350 hp would be perfect. I also had a problem where I would step on the gas and it would go hard and other times where I would hit the gas it felt sluggish. I'm also not a fan of the 4 speed manual transmission, which it were at least a 5 speed. This is a great car for roads trips where it is a lot more comfy than most cars in this price range but wish it did have more power considering it being a v8.
my grandma's been driving Cadillacs since I could possibly remember I remember when I was a kid some of the Cadillacs that she owned she's hot DeVilles Sedan DeVille Wheels fleetwood's Savills I don't know much about Cadillacs but I do know this much growing up I learned that when they get 250 Thousand Miles year kind of fucked they're going to start giving you problems I'm like fucking laughing right now cuz I'm taking about the problems but if you want one you got to be able to afford to fix something I guess I mean the nice cars inside and out and it's like the body never gets old the body always just stands with the time as it keeps going always looks good
2000 to 2005 cadillac deville was a nice looking car but 99% OVER HEAT AND THE STARTER MOTOR COST A FORTUNE TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE STARTER MOTOR IS BUILT INSIDE THE ENGINE-TO REPLACE IT YOU HAVE TO PULL THE TOP OF THE ENGINE APART..
I have owned several 2000 to 2005 DeVilles. Never experienced this overheating issue. Just traded my 2004 with 295,000 kilometers - aprx 180,000 miles for a 2008 DTS.
harrison hollywood The ones that were maintained PROPERLY they were great. There are many Cadillac's that run great and have very high miles. The starter is really not that bad to change out. doesnt have 300hp................. 255 hp @ 6,200 rpm this weighs alot ,any minivan will smoke this due to its weight.. far from a perfromance car sorry
I've had this same car for about six years, it is awesome, powerful, luxurious, smokes everything on the freeway

Enjoy the ride! 👍🏽🇺🇸
i finally got mine!! its a crimson pearl in color and sooooo smooth and full of luxury!!!! awesome car bro!
Also! The 2005 Devilles aren't plagued with the Head Gasket issues! They fixed the issue completely! Great Cars! Ive had 3 Devilles!
Which years are? Is it the earlier years? I have an 04 Deville.

300HP...to the front wheels...not to mention the torque...nothing wrong here!
Sean Hart :)
nope, it's actually a very great layout!
The Northstar engine is one of GM finest products , the 4 valves per cylinder go a long way to add power and torque to this high performance automobile .I'm looking at one now .They are a great vaue for the used car dollar
I've never chuckled so much during a car review. About to close the deal on a 2011 DTS Premium with 80K miles, black on black, loaded.
Sounds sweet to me!
ok when is going to punch it ..I love to hear northstars ??.... these cars are like arrows on the highway and you don't realize you're going fast sometimes but slow cruising is like being on a couch lol

@cadman303 Thanks for the suggestion. I will add the keywords. I love the car and hope that it will be mine one day :)
Did you have any trouble out of the Northstar Engine?
That was filmed at Shiloh - a Civil War battle ground in TN. It's filled with awesome monuments and information! Road trip?
I just picked up a 2000 STS red in near perfect condition. 1 owner and only 85,000 miles.
Sweet! Enjoy!
good luck! the DTS is smooth!
@slyguyaction Thanks Ryan! Troy is a Character indeed! I'll look for the Lincoln Town Car. Have you seen my review of the MKS? Sweet ride! Happy New Year!
Great review...I love the car. It has been almost 10 years...Is it yours now?

I´m looking at one 2002 , but I read and people tell me they break down all the time.
Is that true ??
I hate to buy one and having to put money into it , but I drive very little .

ragnar Barker I'd check with Consumer reports - they rate the reliability of most cars for the past 10+ years
ragnar Barker They are very good IF they are maintained PROPERLY. Its sad that some people that had these cars DID NOT maintain them the righ tway which lead to having problems. This is the last year I like of the Deville series. The DTS is a nice looking car. Too bad they ruined the body and interior in 2006.

bail out
Is the wood real in this car? Or is it the cheesey plastic GM was known for in the mid 2000s?
It’s been a while since I was in the car, but I don’t recall it being cheesy.
theMediaMart I've been doing some research and it looks like they use real wood and it's called Zebrano wood
Haha Tony, u really tried to get I'm to say "punch it".
I need to walk my “dog” more. Got only 61k miles right now and it’s 2002.

I wonder if he ever got the car hahah
Nope
Owned one. Biggest piece of garbage ever made. Head gaskets went @ around 140k.. Ended up junking the car for 500 bucks.. Not worth the 8k I paid for it when it was 6 years old.
Bruce Banner Troy's is still rolling fine with near 200k on the ody
did you ever change the coolant? later model northstars rarely had the head gasket issue.
Bruce Banner Must not have been maintained the way it should. You should have put in a rebuilt motor in it and kept driving the car. Replace your motor, not your car. I would have loved to save it.
Mine is over 300,000 miles. Obviously you didn't maintain yours.
I'm so pissed at this dude chewing its not even funny
