    Back in the early 00's everyone on the forums seemed to be recommending the audere pre. I can see why now. Great value and solid tone!

    Because of your video, I now have 4 basses with the Audere Preamp installed. Thank you sir.

    An LED indicator on battery life, just like current hand tool manufacturers use on their batteries would be a big plus if these manufacturers were able to swing it. Evidently, Audere had the foresight to do this. Little things like this can set them apart from the rest. Love this series, Lobster!

      It really removes battery anxiety, when they last so long anyways.

    I have the Audere 4-band on a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special (which also has Aguilar DCB PJ pickups added) and I have to say that it’s the best thing ever.

      About to do the same thing to the same bass! I’ve had it for a decade, the audere will wake up my Fender 62 Custom shop p bass pick up and dimarzio ultra jazz big time. The pots and boost circuit have always been wonky.

    Audere is definitely one of the best. I love mine!

    Yesterday I ordered a classic 4 band to put into a Squier. I appreciate this so much. I always wanted to hear these preamps side by side!

    I have MANY, MANY Audere pre-amps (more than 10) in my bass collection. I recommend the 3 and 4 band version (my favorite with low mid and high mid boost and cut) for a few dollars more. I also have a bass with the PRO-Z and do not find that any better (save the money) and the switchable impedance does not really give me usable tones..I keep it in the center/neutral position on the pro-z.

      Thanks Michael! Tomorrow we're checking out a 4 band Pro Z. Definitely dig the flexibility of the 4 band though, it's killer!

      Michael Gerry, I recently had a ProZ6 (6-position knob) installed in a Fender Elite. You're right. Not easy to dial in anything usable with that switchable impedance feature (yes, I've tried this in an actual band setting). I'm going to try the one you mentioned, the 4-band w/tone version.

    Great preamps! I have been using them for years! The first time in a TBC (The Bass Company, remember them!) bass. Currently both my Bacchus basses have Audere preamps and they sound awesome!

    @bizibetiko9778 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have the ProZ in a Mexi Jazz, and I love the thing. at detents, it nails the passive tone of the bass and lets the pickups color the tone, but you have so much flexibility with the eq settings and the 3 way switch. I really want one of these Jazz Series preamps though. I love having a tone control on an active preamp.

    • @davedupuis2069
      @davedupuis2069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems odd to me that there would be a tone control if there isn't a preamp bypass. Do you find it useful?

    • @bizibetiko9778
      @bizibetiko9778 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davedupuis2069 I do. I have a tone control on a Nordstrand 2 band Preamp that works in both active and passive modes. I don't know if I'll be able to put it in words very well, but I'll try.
      Rolling the tone off in active mode has quite a different effect than just rolling of on the treble control. When soloing the bridge pickup I can be in active mode and roll the tone off and it gets more of the Jaco type of sound. Or roll the tone off of the neck pickup for more of a Motown type of sound. It's still different from the passive sound, more compressed, but different from the EQ roll offs on the active preamp.

  • @bevinmodrak4997

    2 things to add based on how my 4 band works. There are a couple trim pots on the 4 band to change the gain in relation to the 2 pickups. I believe it's to balance the volume between the pickups but you could also just overall boost the gain. Again on the 4 band it's +/- 10 db. And the battery indicator light changes in brightness and duration based on charge left. I think it may also blink when low so you have ample warning to change the battery. You also absolutely use an external battery box with it. Paired with a set of Wilde/Bill Lawrence no hum jazz pickups.... well really not sure there's a better combo out there without spending significantly more money. Great work Lobster... still waiting for the best beginner 5 string shoot out.

  • @PorchBass

    Lovely EQ choice here it sounds firm at all settlings and the trebke isn't distortion.
    Maybe the v3 is magic and they will all sound good
    The tone control doesn't seem to go super low, which is a shanes

      Thanks Dave! The Pro Z is sweet. I don't like it with single coils, but I put the ProZ J6ZD in a custom fretless Jazz with Aguilar and Nordstrand mismatched hum cancelling pickups and it's dead quiet and sounds stellar!

    Another great one Lobster! I was very excited to hear this one because I haven't heard or seen any recent videos about it. Definitely a great alternative to the Sadowsky. The only bummer is that it craps out totally if the battery dies, unlike the Sadowsky. Looking forward to tomorrow's video and the finale!

    The Audere Pro Z series (4 band) is only about $25 more than than the Jazz series. I think it's worth the small amount extra money to have all the features of the ProZ. I didn't mess with any of the "programmable"(?) features, but set up stock there are so many sound variations with no muss or fuss. The only drawback that I can note is that I do not have a battery route, and the plate needs to be removed to replace the battery, which can be a bit tricky. But the ProZ has a blue "battery condition" light which will warn you when you need to change batteries. I jus do it preemptively when I can, not when I have to.

  • @christopherstorrier5560

    I like the look & sound of this pre-amp, it is a 2 band eq, 9v Do you know what frequencys the tone controls are set ?... I ask as i think this may be what I'm looking for, as you say you can only keep it turned on, all active sytem. If it is all active why is their a passive tone control along with an active eq? I'm looking for a simple but quality 2 band, 9v, active pre-amp that can play in passive mode as well as active..., luv the lack of noise, if i can mod it to play active & passive this would be perfect, great video as always,, thanks.... 👍 Just noticed the links.... lol, just thought an off/on toggle switch just after the battery, 2-3 inches of wire up from the battery , would save a lot of batteries & money.... cheers.....

    Do we have to take out the battery cage to use this preamp. My jazz bass has a 2 battery cage. I can’t use the audere and the battery cage?

  • @biga6856
    @biga6856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like Audere but man I really wish they can add a active and passive switch. All the manufacturers adds it but yet they can’t execute it. But I do appreciate the transparency tone and price point.

    • @bevinmodrak4997
      @bevinmodrak4997 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's a specific reason he doesn't do that. Has to do with where the preamp actually is in the signal chain. So pre-amps that have active/passive switches apparently have the op am at the end of all the tone shaping. I'm probably badly mangling the explanation but when he explains it makes a lot of sense.

    • @alessandrocruz_
      @alessandrocruz_ หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not all the manufacturers go that way. EMG for example, and I'll say I'm not missing that feature, since battery life is great and they're cheap and, in most cases, easy and quick to replace. I have Audere and EMG preamps and I don't feel any need for the passive mode.

  • @pjmuck
    @pjmuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Aren't all Sires 18v preamps? Did you find any difference in headroom switching to the Audere 9v preamp? And as long as you already have the battery cavities in the bass, couldn't you have used them instead of running the battery in the control cavity anyway?

    • @LowEndLobster
      @LowEndLobster  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all sires have 18v preamps. Though I just used the Sire here as a 'platform' to showcase these preamps that can be used in all 'deluxe' style jazz basses (with the side jack). Because some of these preamps alllow for a battery in the cavity, I opted for 9v all around vs constantly connecting and disconnecting the stock battery harness to these preamps that already have an included harness. It was basically for the sake of ease here.

    • @russellzauner
      @russellzauner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      dont ya just love it when ya twist the knob and stuff happens? lol
      but finally got to the bridge - you were stuck in the T H I C C ness of the neck pickup...
      The bridge is poppin and sizzlin with the string slap coming across like thwacks instead of clatter...
      The only problem with this amp is it sounds almost too FAT and ROUND for a J bass, but it stays, it hangs.
      I have a feeling that it can dial in a nice burpo jaco type without getting ear stabby or clanky, this amp seems to suit this platform very well.
      are you gonna pit them against the 40 buck tone monster?
      HA DO IT
