  • Detailed instructions for tying a Sulphur Breadline Emerger.
    Hook: Standard dry-fly hook (here, a Dai-Riki 300), sizes 14-18.
    Thread: 8/0 or 70 Denier, wood duck, yellow, or light brown.
    Trailing shuck: Antron yarn, golden brown.
    Body: Turkey biot, amber.
    Hackle collar: Golden straw, yellow, or cream.
    Wing: Natural snowshoe-rabbit-foot hair.
    Thorax: Rabbit-fur dubbing, ginger.
    Note: This pattern also works great in BWO and PMD colors.

    Excellent fly and one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Keep it up! :-)

    I'm a believer! Works great around here for a sulfur imitation. I tie mine in all pale yellow with a pale blue dun hackle.

    Hi, fantastic standard of tying and production as usual. May I ask where you get your Snowshoe? I tied a large, size 10, dry Mayfly for fishing the loughs(lakes) back in Ireland a few years ago. I used a Medium Dun Snowshoe that I got from Hareline. It was mostly a Dun colour, with the merest hint of brown at the tips of the hair. I worked wonderfully well taking fish continuously until I actually ran out of it. Then I couldn't get the same colour from Hareline, and when I contacted them directly they said that their source in Chile had gone out of business.
    Could you let me know, by message if you prefer, your source for them. Of all the sites I visited and clips I watched you seem to have the colour(s) close to what I'm after.
    Thanks

    I've been looking for a few good sulphur patterns to tie as they're starting to hatch in my area. I'll make sure that nobody sees me trimming the trailing shuck with scissors.

    Nice Tim! These materials and techniques also work well using a Partridge Klinkhammer Extreme hook, Which allows the snowshoe to be attached to the flat portion of the hook and ride parallel on the surface. I'm actually tying some in burnt orange/ ginger, and Light Cahill shades for our upcoming Ausable trip.

      +Alan Rolloff Sounds great Alan, if you get a chance, could you send me a photo of the finished product. A phone shot would be fine. Thanks.

    Beautiful, well-proportioned fly. I will tie this as a Blue-Wing Olive or PMD for our western hatches. I also like Alan Rohloff's idea of using a Klinkhamer hook, but I will simply take the Dai Riki 300 and put a kink in the shank with my barb crushing pliers. I've done that before when tying Klinkhamer emergers and it seems to work fine. Just want you to know I have a whole file of your videos. They are unquestionably the best on the internet. Thanks for your generous sharing.

    Really nice pattern. I haven't seen it before! I wouldn't have known it wasn't a new pattern if you hadn't said so. I guess it isn't getting any attention on TH-cam anyway. Somebody out there is mad you just gave out their secret fly I bet. All the best, tight lines. Sean

      it's the other end of his whip finisher. He sharpens it. I think he did a video on it

    Great pattern! I also tie some with a fully dubbed rabbit body (and no quill) for more traditional thorax dunn. Fantastic because my leader doesn't twist like the split wings do.

    why do all of your recent videos have "4k" in the title?

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luke P They are uploaded in high resolution 4K video. Click the little gear in the video control bar and select the highest resolution your device and internet connection will play. If you can play full 4K, you should notice a big jump in quality even from HD 1080p video.

      +tightlinevideo The 4K version is not up quite yet as it takes a while to convert. It should be up in less than an hour.

    What is the hackle feather used for this

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hackle helps the fly to ride right in the surface film like a natural emerger.

    • @isupportthecurrentthing5225
      @isupportthecurrentthing5225 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know but I'm wondering which hackle feather did you use for this. And do you know where I can get a similar cape?

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, misunderstood the question. It is Whiting Farms neck in a color called Golden Straw.

    • @isupportthecurrentthing5225

      white dyed golden straw sound about right?

      +tightlinevideo I have often wondered what camera you were using - not surprised that its your trade secret. Have always admired your videos - excellent work Tim! Adding underwater shots and fish-porn really is great!
