Hello everyone, this is the PART 2 (40 Days UPDATES) of Propagating Rubber Plant from Long Stem Cuttings. Thank you all for the support! PART 1 Link - th-cam.com/video/2W7VryHcL4I/w-d-xo.html
thanks a lot, I had mine on the water since December 2th, 2022 and it´s day 25, and it's similar to the day 30 that you show. it´s really slow but it´s growing, thanks a lot because I thought that I´m doing something wrong.
WOW! Very interesting, very educational. And what a difference LECA and Perlite make! I would have never thought of it! Thank you so much. Question: do you reuse the Perlite then?
One of my favourite video of yours. In the middle of working I watch your videos for a break 😊 - I have a question, I noticed you made holes for drainage for the LECA a few inches up - is it ok if the holes of my pots are at the bottom? Please keep up with your wonderful content 😊
Wow! Very helpful video! It’s the first time i see someone propagate ficus elastica in perlite! I have 3 cuttings of ficus elastica and i want to have success with all of them. Did you try perlite prop with ficus before with the same fantastical results or you were just lucky this time? Thank you very much! 😍
I have tried it before and they root well. Just remember to not let the perlite dried out during your propagation period. I am using perlite also with other plant propagation and gives me a great result.
OMG!! Thank you so much for this information. I'm going to try the perlite propagation method :) I have 2 questions: 1If you had better results with Lecca in the mother plant, why did you plant the perlite propagation in soil again? 2Can we leave the plant in Lecca the rest of its life?
Hi, I don’t have enough LeCa at the moment and if i’m going to repot in LECA I really need a lot of them 😁. And yes you can grow your rubber plant in LeCA for life! I have a lot of rubber plants now growing in just LeCA and they are growing very well.
Hello. Great vid, startling results. Do you believe the perlite alone is responsible for the dramatic difference? Or is it the better aeration? Have you experimented with a potting soil heavily blended with perlite? Maybe 50/50? Or potting soil alone? Sorry for all the questions. I may have a couple of hundred of these to do and I'll do it as I must but potting soil is much less expensive for me in bilk that perlite. Thanks in advance...
I don’t use soil anymore in propagating rubber plants. Now, my most effective and easy way of propagating rubber plant is by the use of water only. But of course, perlite still amazing and effective. For me, using of soil has a lot of bacteria or living organism that may cause the cuttings to rot. Unlike water and perlite, they are sterile or clean. Just my opinion.
Hello, my work schedule is hectic so I have been adding water to my perlite every few days just to make sure it doesn't dry out? Can leafs propagating in perlite be overwatered? I'm afraid if I don't do it every few days, I will get busy and they will have a period where they dry out. Love this video! Thank you.
I’m not sure about overwatering but it would be better than drying out your cuttings. In my case since it is indoor I am just watering it like every 3-5 days.
Hi there, thank u very much for the video! i cut my ficus elastica on March 8th (12 days ago) Yesterday on mother plant i noticed new stems 🙏🏻🥲 🥳 The cuttings i put in the perlite, to which i’m adding water. Unfortunately only one of 3 cuttings are showing roots (very small and weak, one of them i accidentally broke). But i think 2 of the cuttings are growing new leaves 😳 Maybe its better i remove two cuttings (with no roots) and put them in water?
In my experienced water propagation is still the most effective way of growing rubber plants. So yes you can put them in water and it will root faster.
Hello….May I ask how often you water the one planted in LECA? How about the one in perlite, please. Thanks very much. Also, it seemed to me the ones growing in perlite and LECA are healthier. I wonder what you did with the one in LECA….Did you also transfer the rubber plant in soil and perlite?
For the plants in LECA, I’m just refilling the water like every 10 days or whenever I think it gets empty. Just make sure that the water reservoir doesn’t get empty. And for the perlite I normally check it like every other day and when it gets almost dry then I water it.
Hi, do you just keep adding water to the perlite every few days? Do I need to keep the stem submerged in water in the perlite pot? Thank you for your help
Out of curiosity, will this method work with Ficus altissima? I got one with very nice upper leaves, but the lower leaves have brown spots, so I’d like to cut the top two-thirds of the stem off to separate it from the ugly lower leaves, and have the nice top part grow new roots to pot.
Hi I have a cutting which one is better perlite or water propagation?? Should I keep it in low sun lite or humid place or normally indoors with normal light pls help
I have a rubber plant cutting in water for almost 45 days now. It just started rooting.. Can I move this in to a perlite medium for faster rooting?? Please reply. Thank you
hi, base on my experiment rubber plant cutting with long stem can root well in perlite while with a very short stem cutting, water still the best medium for rooting.
I have this plant and it almost dying .. many flys around it, the leaves fall and the have white dots on them .. Can I trim the stem and plant it in water??🤔🤔🤔
I was once told that I shouldn’t actually change water when propagating in water. Just add some when necessary. And it really helped the roots grow faster. Also I wanted to ask - is it possible that perlite might damage the roots? This is what I read
Yeah you are right, not changing the water is good also and might help. But for me this is the way I do in propagation in water because most of the time the water is getting dirt so I am not comfortable of it. And yet the roots is getting fine also. In perlite, it may damage specially when you are trying to remove it and repot to soil. But still it will be fine as long as it has enough roots and it will recover eventually.
For quick rooting, its best to keep the cuttings under 10 inches. For ficus elastica, even one node along with the leaf will root quickly. Cocopeat and Pearlite are best medium.
Many Thanks for sharing these great insights. Very helpful ! May I ask if you had an experience with Ficus Elastica (Rubber Plant) Leaf Propagation in Perlite ? Do you think it'll give the same successful results as the Stem Cuttings in Perlite ?
Hi, I never did any leaf propagation in perlite. Since just propagating by leaf alone won’t continue as a new plant. But if you’re going to include a small portion of the stem attached with one leaf it will give a great result even using perlite which I have tried already.
@@thegreenearth Many thanks again for your quick & clear response. Yes I indeed meant "Leaf with a small portion of the stem" , so it can root. Do I understand correctly that you tried that "Leaf with a small stem"" Propagation in Perlite ; and it worked better than Propagation Water ?
I did not do any comparison for small cuttings. I just propagated in perlite and it roots well. Just reminder to not let your perlite dried out during propagation period or else your cuttings will just dried out too and won’t root. Anyway a good idea come out for my next video. I will propagate a small cuttings of rubber plant in perlite versus water. thanks
@@thegreenearth Thanks a million ... very much appreciated ! Looking forward to your next video (with small cuttings in perlite versus water); it'll be a very interesting experiment :)
Hi, I saw your video th-cam.com/video/6fX-gkcTcVM/w-d-xo.html ... that covered "propagating small cuttings in Perlite versus Water" , but inside Mini Green House Box; where the result was that Water is better than Perlite ... Isn't that correct ? or Do you think that we need to redo the experiment without the Mini Green House Box; that might give different results ?
Leca is an acronym and it stands for: Lightweight expanded clay aggregate. It sounds very complicated, but it's quite easy to explain. Essentially, Leca is a growing medium, like soil, in which you can grow your plants. Leca is a collection of baked clay balls that expand when you soak them in water.

Are u using clay pot or plastic potat the end
Do you water the perlite? How much if so, and do you also use nutritions?
Omg
This video is the best I've ever seen on TH-cam about rubber plant propagation!!
Thanks a million
This video takes along time to be published. I am one of the (Ficus Elastica) lovers and believe me I wish I could like the video 4 times.
Wow so it means Leca and Perlite are the best choices for fast rooting propagation. thank you for this educational and informative video.
That was amazing success. Fantastic results with perlite.

WOW! Very interesting, very educational. And what a difference LECA and Perlite make! I would have never thought of it! Thank you so much. Question: do you reuse the Perlite then?
Thank you! Yes we can re-use perlite. I used to add it to my potting soil.
I was wondering the same thing.

Yes just add water to keep the perlite moist, don’t let the perlite dried out during propagation.
👍👍👍 very good!
How often did u water the perlite?
For perlite propagate, where i should put the water level?
Do u full the container that has perlite with water or half the container I'm trying to find out how much water u use for the perlite
Just 2-3 inches level from the bottom of the pot.
