People don't mind paying when the money isn't stolen.

Pay 42% plus vat plus rates and taxes, and get little for it.
Politicians and their placed cadres have stolen everything they collect, borrowers more and stolen that.

The work of government should not be confused by the looting and incompetence of government, and the unending spending of unfunded social programes that create a dependent, unemployable youth, and is anti business.
You seem to not understand where goverment gets its money from.
It's either take from citizens or borrowed from banks. Governments do not create jobs or revenue

I think the rich are more concerned about the fact that in South African tax tables they can have up to half their entire income taken from them as tax. They wouldn't care what is being done with tax money if they didn't have half their bank balance grabbed by the state.

I left SA in March 2024 for New Zealand. I was paying R500 000 in tax a year. I got absolutely no value for that money or any value since I started paying tax in 2009. Now I pay less tax and finally see something for the money I earn. A tax system should benifit everyone. That way it encourages everyone to contribute.

The government is short sited instead of adding to the gdp, people working outside SA rather take their families out the country because the tax is too much to pay. My son lives a better life overseas, as he was told he cannot get work here as he was to white and male. He has a degree and would be an asset to his mother country. But again he is to white and male. Until we overcome racial prejudice we will not develop as a nation. The South African government's arrogance and decision to implement an expatriate tax demonstrates poor foresight and economic understanding. This policy has forced many South African citizens living abroad, including myself, to formally terminate their tax residency and relocate their assets overseas. Where I once regularly invested millions back into South Africa, I've now ceased all financial contributions. This shortsighted tax policy has resulted in significant capital flight, depriving the country of valuable foreign investment and economic growth opportunities. The government's attempt to generate additional tax revenue has ironically led to a substantial loss of foreign capital inflow.

In the United States many companies get major tax breaks and loans for hiring the poor. But as as soon as the companies get the money they look for reasons to fire those same people they got paid to hire. Then look for another poor employee to get the same tax break. So they never pay for most of their staff. Many wealthy people get tax breaks on every dime they spend. Even on high ticket items like luxury cars, Beach front land, and jewelry. The true tax payer are paying for everything with no tax breaks. It's a wicked game.

SA should invest in real growth here by investing in real talent and not friends and family who waste he money and don't know what to do with the money. The best and most innovative people wont qualify with the banks so they are lost and the ones who study have no clue about real entrepreneurship. Government policy is done by clueless people so its not on the right track. Look at the entertainment sector for example. You have a Grammy winning artist who ow Sars millions. Success should not be the goal without proper development and growth. The wrong people are in the right positions so it will flop.

our country is going backwards fast. High taxes with no meaningful service delivery or infrastructure development or maintenance. It's all corruption and ineptitude from cadre deployment. You get so little from government for the taxes you must pay. No foreign investment coming into our country either. That's why the wealthy and educated are leaving in their masses! It's so difficult to grow and foster wealth in SA, I don't blame them. Life is only going to get even harder while Cyril sleeps.

To say that the growth of the US is from state intervention is preposterous. China is experiencing a slow-down purely because of state 'intervention.' The best thing government can do is stay the hell out of business. Supply side reforms, free up the 'free-market.' I deleted my comment because the sarcasm you mentioned became very obvious :) My apologies @Romanmsone32

All tax NOT spent to bennefit South African citizens, is by definition the property of those who paid that tax. If they do not get it, then by definition that is theft via governmental dishonesty. How much people earn is NOT an issue, but how much money is NOT spent on S,A, infrastructure to the benefit of its citizens, is a VERY GREAT issue as wel as the cause of poverty. Mis spent tax is a crime that needs jail time.
