Hi Robin! The lyrics are by ‘Bulley shah’ who was a great pakistani sufi poet of the 18th century based in punjab, pakistan. Its amazing how his poetry makes absolute sense even now, centuries after he actually wrote it. His work is extremely popular in pakistani and indian music to the day. ‘Dam mast kalandar’ the coke studio song you guys reacted on was also written originally by bulley shah. Many indian songs are also inspired by his sufi poetry. ‘Sufism’ itself concerns with finding your inner true self and your true purpose in life.

The lyrics are so amazing because they were written by an 18th century Punjabi philosopher and sufi mystic called 'Bulleh Shah' his poetry has been turned into many songs like this one !
