    Infrastructure building during the Khmer empire- gigantic!

      Hi Mimi, I hope you are well. It has been awhile since I’ve spoken to you. Things like bridges absolutely fascinate me what I can never get on film is the surrounding countryside and the journey to them because all you see is nothing. But with my imagination, it is filled with warriors and traders, and people on epic journeys to and from a mighty capital. It must’ve been the most amazing place to sit by a bridge and just watch people come and go. I hope life is being good to take good care

    Thanks to these infrastructure it allows the Khmer empire to move large human resources, ideas, and culture from place to place. There are hundreds of these bridges they built all across the empire. Honestly the width of these bridges are impressive. I can imagine thousands of Elephants would cross these bridges so it needs to be sturdy and wide. These roads and bridges lead to the largest Pre-industrial City on Earth. The Rome of South East Asia

      You are so right, these bridges are literally everywhere, even in the archaeological Park of Angkor Wat, if you walk in the jungle away from the Temples, all the tourists go to you will find bridges. I have found three. In fact, I may do a video on them one day. I hope life is kind take good care

      @@TheMrB when I was traveling from Siem Reap back to Phnom Penh there were at least 8 small laterite bridges right next to the modern road. I suspect these are one of the arteries of the road systems that would have connected all the way to Vietnam.

    Greetings sir, I remembered my trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Along the way, I have seen about 4-5 ancient Khmer empire bridges near the side of the main road, and that was even before approaching Siem Reap. It’s amazing how these bridges are still standing!

    • @TheMrB
      @TheMrB  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The ones you seen have actually had work done to them, but not as much as you would think. There is, in fact many bridges as I see bricks and blocks in various places, they really had mastered the art of building wonderful bridges. I hope life is good to you.

    Another excellent video, Mr. B. If you haven't already been, have a look at the 900 yr. old bridge at Kampong Kdei. Now that's a bridge and a half!! Even more incredible, up until the making of Road 6 from SR to PP it carried all the traffic Road 6 carries today.
    My best regards to you and hope you're keeping well.

      Yes I have been to that bridge and I believe I have done two videos on it as it is so amazing. Thank you very much for your kind recommendation. It is very much appreciated. I hope life is kind

    Nice one Mr B. Will look up a bit of yr backstory. Knew bits of it as have been following you for a while. Been a Cambodian temples fan for years. Got up to Banteay Chamaar 2 months ago and surprised to find that 2 of the robbed frescos have been moved from Phnom Penh back to their original wall - now looking great in situ. Also some good renovations along the north wall - now looking much more like it would have ‘back in the day’. Maybe time for a Chamaar revisit?

      Yes, I must return to Chanserey, as the video I did on it is just awful, it was one of my very first videos. But worst of all it is one of the videos that’s got the most hits, which embarrasses me deeply. The fact my friend, I think you’ve given me the idea of what I’m going to do next week, time not to put it off anymore and to get over there and correct what I did and make it better. Thank you for your encouragement. It is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Mr. B, love your video! Did you know that a Khmer farmer had just recently unearthed an ancient Khmer holy sword? It looked to still be in a good condition.

    • @TheMrB
      @TheMrB  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes I saw that and to me it looked as though it was in remarkably good condition, it could well be that it was encased in clay. If it was regular soil one must consider it could be a hoax because it was just so good. But I’m sure it was an original. Also recently a statue was discovered in perfect condition by another farmer. But the fast majority of stuff found it sold on the black market because the government does not have a scheme where they will pay the farmer, the full value of whatever they find. Which is tragic.

      @@TheMrB oh that’s terrible to hear! I agree, the government should pay for these farmers. As for the sword, the authority has taken it to be examined by an expert.

    Excellent bridge and video this Mr B. Would be great if someone would rebuild that great road going to Angkor instead of throwing money at useless projects.

      There is so much work to be done. It is phenomenal. Think of all those Temples that I visit in the countryside that are pretty much the neglected. Many still being attacked by trees, and slowly being destroyed.

    Hello Mr B. I’m in Siem Reap now and have been to a few temples already. Tomorrow we’re heading out again and I need to come to this bridge.
    Thank you my friend and stay well.

    • @TheMrB
      @TheMrB  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Steven, the bridge is on Google Maps and it is accessible due to it. Not raining for the past few days. You do need to keep an eye open as you need to go through some bushes, so hunt around and you will find it. Best thing is keep Google Maps open with satellite images and it should become apparent. What time are you going?
      Happy hunting to you.

    Impressive but also sad. How a civilization like the Khmer Empire turned into forgotten temples and a poor country. Praise the Lord, the Khmer people have never lived under Islamic Ottoman caliphate. Otherwise you would not see even one temple. Unfortunately the Pol Pot Regime was turning this wonderful country into a nightmare.
    Thank You as always Mr. B(est). 🤠

      I don't think even the Ottomans would win against the Khmers. A few cannons won't do much damage to a very large army of Khmer Elephants. The Khmers already invented the Ballista Elephant an equivalent of a modern day tank.

      It’s due to the river not going that way no more. Probably diverted.
