Whose side is India on? Well, it's complicated. Based on the plushest of red carpets that President Biden rolled out for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his White House visit in June, one might think the two were the closest of allies. But India has a long history of what it used to call "strategic non-alignment" and now refers to as "multilateralism."
After enduring a century of British colonial rule, it’s understandable that Indians would bristle at being told to enter the fold of one global alliance or another, especially when one side includes their former colonizer. And Indians feel they shouldn’t have to hide behind anyone. This behemoth of a nation just overpassed China to become to most populous country on earth and its rapidly growing economy could overtake Germany and Japan’s within this decade.
The sustainability of that stance has been severely tested, however, in the wake of Delhi's refusal to explicitly condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and critics argue that it's long past time for India to pick a side.

We need more neutral countries like India to balance out the power struggle between china and US. Not every country has ambitions to dominate the world like US and China. India believes in a very ancient concept called vasudev kutumbakam meaning the world is one family. India has never actively attacked any country in last 1000 years unlike other superpowers. Never bullied anyone, never misused their powers and always helped everyone without asking much in return. The world has still not shown the respect it deserves. But we all know good guys are not respected that much anyways in geopolitics its all about who has waged more wars and who has the capability to kill as many people if the war happens.

Yes, India was colonized before, later it wants to colonize others. But it is lack of capability to do so because of its poor “civilization”, like caste society, corruption, no industrialization, too much young labor force and most importantly the copied democracy and capitalism from the west.

    • @anshuecon
      @anshuecon 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

@@kshen7485 India wanting to colonise others. No proof of that BS. As for caste, the current Prime Minister and President are from historically underprivileged castes and tribes (I strongly disapprove of them policy-wise, but this fact is undeniable) and the Constitution was framed by someone from one of the most historically underprivileged castes. No industrialisation? It has the world's third-largest start-up ecosystem, is one of the pioneers in green hydrogen and solar infrastructure, and has some of the world's most dominant pharmaceutical and automotive companies. Britain's famous Jaguar cars are owned and manufactured by the Indian Tata Motors. There go most of your claims. The map you used in 4:25 is a legally correct map of India (as JnK province was legally annexed to India by the the then ruler Maharaja Hari Singh due to the evil act of Pakistan army led invasion on his province)… and just guess what happens if all that land illegally grabbed or claimed by China and Pakistan really merged with India? We had a direct route to explore or trade to Central Asia and so to the east Europe and from Aksai Chin to Tibet…. But But But despite our Indian leadership told the world our stand with Non-alignment in Cold War situation during those times US constantly sidelined Indian interests and supported Pakistan (as ally) and China (as balancing country) to take a stand against soviet Rus 😢… for what? US pushed India towards USSR we not even have border with USSR and well Soviet Rus helped us in our grave poverty by installing major industries to boost economy and many things but due to this, our dependence on them was clear on many thing… even during 1971 Bangladesh liberation war US acted against India even when Indians were not the aggressor and supported evil Pakistan when Pakistan bleed their own countrymen! So it is complicated as we learn a lot from US and so we agree to disagree with them on many things but we are solely bonded by interests ☮️

As for building Alliance and all, Indian politics doesn't believe in Alliance and haven't been part of any since independence.
I hope USA-India realtionships keep improving as it will help both countries to contain China & it's Communist, Expantionist ideology which is defenitly a threat to Free & Open world we demand.
Only one problem, I have with USA, EUROPE( basically all of west) is that they comment on our internal issues(mostly left wing govt.) like Religious Equality and almost try to force same version of democratic values which work in USA but from our point of view, that might not work for India as we have many different challenges. They do it all to enforce their image of "World police" & Liberal, Righteousness that Left seem to obsess about.

In this day and age, when people move so freely across borders, and even have families across countries, only a person completely out of his mind would talk about being in military alliances. Global movement of goods and people is making the globe an increasingly intertwined place, with no room for faux pas.

If India survives and over pass China it will need to maintain growth and development, this means that at a certain point India is not enough anymore and it will need to expand. Watch this space.

but these views are not shared by Russian people I tell you that). Just like the West (democratic West) supported Pakistani army and terrorists against India (a democratic country)
this is what we are doing, putting national interest first. US and UK attacked another democratic country send naval ships and Nuclear powered Aircraft carriers to attack India and support
Pakistani army who are killing, and raping millions of people in Bangladesh. This is when USSR (a communist country) saved India ( a democratic country) from being attacked by other
democratic countries, and saved Soveranity of India.
These words Democracy, Soveranity, National Integrity, and Independence. Now are talked about Ukraine a lot so the West first look at the past and what they did.

3:56 India is the largest buyer of arms in general. The US and its allies refused to sell them stuff and so they had to go to Russia to buy things. Only France was smart enough to not follow that policy and now they are enjoying a privileged position in that market. India hasn't bought a lot of stuff from Russia in the last decade, and the biggest beneficiary of that has been France. The US could have had that position but instead chose to fund Pakistan billions of dollars in military aid which allowed to buys things like F-16s, while the Indians were buying Mirages and Sukhois.

    Lets start with :
    1. Its great to be an ally.. but how dependable has US been to its allies? Lets talk about how the US allies had to undergo the spectacular embarrasments in world geopolitics due to the whimsical nature of US political class. The Iraq WMD story, the overturning of nuclear deal with Iran or the recent Afghanistan fiasco.
    2. India was denied weapons and technology when it was in dire need during the many wars it fought after its independence. It was the russians who supported India when it was almost depleted.
    3. US preferred a military dictator in the neighbourhood to pump money and weapons over the past 70+ years and we all know how that relationship has come now.
    4. Most importantly that military neighbourhood had been waging a proxy terrorist war against India for the past many decades using US funds and ammunition...never saw US or Europe ever being so touchy about that like they are now in Ukraine.
    5. Part of India's legal territory is still under illegal occupation of Pakistan and China. Its fine for them to sit on illegal land but all hell breaks loose when part of Ukraine is annexed by China. Smells hypocrisy, doesnt it?
So yeah, maybe India is on the side of itself. Looking after its own national interests. That shouldnt bother the west coz India is a very dependable and loyal friend and it still believes that the world is one family. It helps the poorer parts of the world with vaccines and humanitarian help when the develeoped nations think of their interests first.

India is responding to the market forces. They developed an economic alliance with Russia because they didn't know Russians would be so crazy as to invade Ukraine. What the US needs to do at this point is work towards a world in which democratic and individual values are protected. Regimes and autocracies hate our values because they go against the idea of having these little dinasties (Putin, Chinese Communist Party, etc). The US is in a position of leadership but current or prior policies were fundamentally anti-communist to paranoid levels. India is neither an ally nor an enemy, they're just worried about their own interests.
