A great talk, learnt a lot of high level information on re-potting and realised I have been doing some of it totally wrong especially the next pot regime (vision), but the greatest limitation to us mortals is the price of decent pots for the next stage of that Bonsai to achieve that vision.
I think ryan loves to hear himself talk a lil to much 🤔 He put the old dude with the grey kangol hat asleep @11:02 😂😂😂 ...but seriously, he definitely knows his bonsai......just get to the point sooner hehe
i hate "never bare root"^^ without bare rooting you will never have a 100% good tree. in my opinion, these "great master high end 50-100 year old" specimen lack of a perfect nebari in 99%. the top is always HOLY SHIT HOW GREAT. but when i look at the roots its like.. oh ok they never bare rooted it :( they let nature do it's thing with the roots and style the top xD
sorry, i'm having a language problem here, i can't understand the mean of the expressionn "bare root", can you explaint it to me? does it means something like to clean the roots?
yes, bare rooting is to remove 100% of the soil/substrate surrounding your roots to see every single root. this way you have 100% control about growth directions and which roots you want or not. but.. you can bare root 50% at a repotting session and next time you make the other 50% naked.. maybe thats a way you can bare root without bare rooting xD
@@bonsaimonsai A lot probably has to do with the stage of development a tree is in. A young tree in development most likely needs to be bare rooted to get the nebari set up etc but as the tree matures it is safer to do partial soil replacements like Ryan said. Also not all trees can actually tolerate being bare rooted.

This is why rock planting is so advantageous to us mortals with a 9 to 5. The beauty of a good rock is it could be under your porch or in your yard.
Thank you for all you do for all of us working to do bonsai well.
After watching his Colorado Spruce on a structure video, the man is a genius.
Stay safe out there! I'm in PNW and getting ready for some quality quarantine bonsai time.
Me too if the Rain stops her in sunny cailiforna
bone's eye
I have killed more tree’s from failed repotting or lack thereof for fear of disturbing it.
Are you alright ryan
Sería espectacular que agregaran subtitulos en Español
Great, thank you

Brother you are looking a little ill. Hope all is well. Could just be tired, but, looking a bit different. Be safe.

Yeah he's a little long winded.
Or he can just be himself.
I think is just trying to ensure we understand the why not just the what to do
In this time he could've put this damn tree into a pot
I am an amature make no mistake, but if there was a bible for bonsai, gods first words would be, take care of the roots.
For 36 years I've heard bonsai and now this guy throws out bone sigh...wtf?
Get your ear washed out man.
Correct Japanese pronunciation comes out as bone sigh
