    There's a drop quest in the Ghostlands where you find a pendant belonging to Sylvanis and when you return it, you can recieve the lyrics by talking to one of the npc's in the room.
    I must admit, this song makes me want to roll an undead.

  • @ShotgunHoward
    @ShotgunHoward 13 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Oh, man, I'll never forget when Sylvanas was singing this in Undercity for the first time to me after doing that quest in Ghostlands. It was so magical!

  • @SwordlordRoy
    @SwordlordRoy 17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Although it would have little difference between then and now, I think it would be interesting to hear the song not only before the "Quel'dorei" became the "Sin'dorei", but to hear it when it was sung, in whatever the equivalent of Darnassian was, during the War of the Ancients.

  • @Iukini
    @Iukini 16 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    several times when I completed a quest for her, I didn't leave the room until this was over.....I just stood there in awe

  • @Galriculus
    @Galriculus 15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Besides, y'all have to remember that Sylvanas used to be a High elf from Quel'thalas, and she despites the loss of what she used to be... I think this totally fits whatever situation you can think about either the blood elves or many of the actual forsaken.

    haunting yet beautiful, makes me sad for some reason

    This song was written after all of the destruction when Sylvanas is commanding the Forsaken (which is right now) A quest where you find her necklace in the Ghostlands makes you travel to Undercity and give it to her and her and some banshees start singing this song so..

  • @Lununguis
    @Lununguis 11 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    This song has no significance to the Forsaken, save that their leader was an elf in life. The Lament of the Highborne was originally written by the night elves in Darnassian, then adapted to Thalassian by the high elves, who eventually became blood elves.
    It transcends boundaries between the Alliance and the Horde and echoes the sorrows elves have collectively suffered- the night elves have the implosion of the Well of Eternity and their loss of immortality from Nordrassil, the high elves have the loss of their brethren to the Scourge and magical addiction, and the blood elves have the implosion of the Sunwell and betrayal by Kael'thas.
    Sylvanas specifically sings this song, however, to lament her current state and the void Alliance-Horde conflict has left in the Windrunner family, with herself being undead and allied with the Forsaken, Vereesa siding with the Silver Covenant, and Alleria being lost with Turalyon.

    • @Lununguis
      @Lununguis 11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not true, actually. It dates back to the War of the Ancients, before the blood elves even existed.

    • @radostinnetsov279
      @radostinnetsov279 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hmm how is that even possible when the song is clearly made by the blood elves? Sin'dorei means children of the blood and in elven language or the one the blood elves are speaking, Sin'dorei is the name they call themselves. Also Anar'alah belore means by the light of the sun. Neither the night elves from the war of the ancient nor those from Darnassus like the sun. They are "night" elves after all. The song is probably made during the fall of Quel'thalas to the Scourge.

    • @sithlordzach8418
      @sithlordzach8418 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@radostinnetsov279 The song refers to the Children of Blood. That doesn't necessarily mean the Sin'dorei people. Children of X is a poetic way of saying "the heirs of" or "those begotten by". Children of Blood refers to those born or shaped by violence and bloodshed and it is used to highlight the rather tragic history of Elves in Azeroth.

    Only thing is that people usually leave after giving in the quest, so most people miss Sylvanas singing this since she sings it almost a few minutes after finishing the quest.

    @Reaping646 In the Warcraft lore, it was the Highborne who let their lust for magic get out of hand, leading to a massive sundering of the world (through the Well of Eternity if I remember correctly). That's why you see all those ruins in Darkshore and the like, and why the Highborne under Queen Azshara were turned into naga. The remaining Highborne, wanting to keep practicing their magic despite what it did, left and became the future blood elves.

    The song dates back before the attack on Silvermoon...Heck, the first recorded instance of it's being sung was by the Highborne during the War of the Ancients. It was a song to mourn the death of the Highborne, this was carried by the Exiles to northern Lordearon or Quel'thalas. The Quel'dorei sang it during the great Troll wars and I think the 2nd war as well, Sylvanas then started singing it to mourn the deaths of the High Elves when Arthas attacked Silvermoon in the 3rd war. Blizz has info...

    The WoW music are the only part of World of Warcraft that will stay timeless. While everything else will get changed, replaced, or perhaps deleted altogether, people will keep these original songs afterwards and keep listening to them. Songs like these are the credits to WoW that I'm never taking back, and I doubt anyone else will, either.

    @DevilRezo In game they're random, it's to keep us from communicating with players of the opposite faction(of course, some people with ALOT of time on their hands figured a way to somewhat get a message across in english). Also, in order to make every word have a specific translation in game, would require a massive amount of time, so you'll never see it. They'll sooner let horde learn common and alliance learn orcish.

  • @DevilRezo
    @DevilRezo 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @JacquesVontoui There are lot of words, texts and songs made by Blizzard in languages of the game, this song got a translation, arent random words at all.

    @yamibalus She's been actively working on a plague, even when the rogue elements of her society working on the plague were beaten down. She's trying to wipe out all life on Azeroth - the Worgen weren't part of the Alliance until the Forsaken attacked Gilnéas and the Night Elves intervened. The Worgen neither said nor did anything to the Forsaken prior to that point.
    Even when under direct orders not to use, or even try to produce the plague by the leader of the Horde, she used the plague.

    @xKevinn93 he goes to help the Earthen Ring.
    the Alliance (SI:7 to be speific ) captures him while he's on the way to the eastern Kingdoms during the Goblin starting quest you save him and eventually you go to Orgimmar to tell Garrosh and he gets all defensive about it (its hinted that he knew thrall would be captured).
    thats all we know bout Thrall in cata so far.

  • @SwordlordRoy

    Yet the description of that vid states the song dates back to the War of the Ancients, if not before. There are three elvish groups in WoW: the Night Elves(Kal'dorei), the High Elves(Quel'dorei), and the Blood Elves(Sin'dorei). The High Elves were Exiled Night Elf Highborne. Following the fall of Silvermoon, Most of the High Elves following Jaina retained that name...The Blood elves split from the High Elves and took a turn for the worse.

  • @SuaveNerd2000
    @SuaveNerd2000 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    from what I herd, this song was originally a night elf song that was written in the aftermath of the war of the ancients... it was then changed for the Troll wars and I guess this is Sylvanas version for her own lament of turning into a banshee... still this song would not only be for Her in particular, but the entire elven race, subgroups and all

    This is even stated as she “casts the glamour.” She can appear as anything or sound like anything, from your perception, while the glamour is in effect. That is why she sounds the way she does afterward; like her normal self after the glamour wears off.
    I hope this resolves the current argument.

    Since I ran out of space, I'd also like to note that the draenei were users of the light, both as eredar granted powers by the naaru and while fighting the corrupted orcs on Draenor, before the destruction caused by Ner'Zhuls portal gun. Depending on the lore you read, they either fought valiantly or were too peaceful to survive the orcs. The Man'ari eredar are probably the demons you're thinking about.

    it was Garithos who sent the elves into impossible battles with the scourge, but he was (i assume) under the control of Detheroc at that point. I don't think that changed his attitude towards elves that much, but he and the rest of the Alliance needed the elves and would have gone to their aid were they not already under attack from the scourge. As for Arthas, he was originally misunderstood and simply wanted to save his homeland as quickly as possible.

    She is singing and the other Banshee’s she summons, the “Lamenters” are her “back-up” singers lol. Oh so now you might say, but wait a minute, how can she sound so beautiful if she’s a banshee? She is performing a “glamour.” For those of you who are unfamiliar with magic, a glamour is a form of illusionary magic whose sole purpose is to alter either the person casting or their surroundings.

    Kate's version is very good, I agree. The original, however, is supposed to give you that uncomfortably heavy feeling. It's a lament. The purpose of a lament is to express deep grief, mourning, and regret. It's a sad song.
    Kate's version is light and lovely, but the original version does the job it was written to do, which is to convey a powerful sentiment of grief and loss.

The Highborne, also known as Highborn or High-borne, quel'dorei meaning "children of noble birth" in Darnassian and "high elves" in Thalassian) were the upper classes of the Kaldorei civilization and the favored servitors of Queen Azshara.

She would let all of us die torturous deaths if it meant she would stay away from the "darkness" that is her "hell". I once loved Sylvanas, and bowed my head at the sight of her, but now knowing that I am seen as a disgusting worm in her eyes, I hope she is forever damned to her feared hell.
