Great capture!!!! And that's why it's called a clean up set! Now and then you gotta pay to play. On Nate's video, he said John and him both got cleaned up a couple of times that day. All in a day's work for those guys.
I'd say around 1/4 of the guys paddled back out after this. John did an insane sweeping carve on the first reef bowl about an hour later. It was one of the coolest turns I've seen in person, and i missed it
@@OffDaLip Are you talking about a driving bottom turn John did later that day? Because, On Nate's video at 17:44 John drops into a beauty, standing tall, and right as he cranks the bottom turn there's a splash, and you barely get a glimpse of a bottom turn that would make Shaun Tomson proud. It was perfection! BTW, your videos are magical. They really capture the essence of what it's like out there. The side views looking into the throat are awesome!
When we learn to surf we're taught "never ditch your board." Here is an entire lineup of professional surfers ditching their board. I'm not criticizing I would've ditched too. My point is, everyone ditches when it's big enough.
@@OffDaLip Nate has addressed this in an explainer vid he did awhile back, last resort and only if you now your board isn't going to spear a surfer behind you.
ocean said" OKAY everybody out of the pool for 15 minute break"! lol
And they all listened haha
Not all, still guys way out the back catching those later ones in set ha
Nothing like getting caught inside with your 50 closest friends

The courage and talent to Surf those conditions is humbling. A skill set and mindset that has to combine
Yup. These guys are warriors
That will do it! Great video of how Mother Nature keeps man in check.

I always duckdive cause I’m lazy and want to avoid the swim with a snapped leggie
Never ditch, unless you have to. And then you got no choice
@@OffDaLip Nate has addressed this in an explainer vid he did awhile back, last resort and only if you now your board isn't going to spear a surfer behind you.
I ditch the board when the white wash is too big but I grab on close and tight to the leash.
@@alvarolachner Unless you're on a longboard with no leash like I was the other day. No fun when you see other people OUTSIDE ditching their boards...
Pipeline has the best crowd reduction factor when a big set comes through. So many of these guys just took the L and paddled in 😮
It's pretty demoralizing to duckdive a set and end up on the shore. Brutal
Clean up on isle 3.
What a crazy video bro. foreal. wow!!!!!
"surf kawela hawaii" channel had a vid of what I think was the same one also, the day before Nathan. lol its good to see all the angles.
Yea, haha. Everyone was tripping on this one
Great camera footage 🤙
Where is this ⁉️🤔
pipe
@ ⁉️. Nearest city⁉️
The ocean cannot be bargained with.
And that's the beauty of it. No politics, no bs, just you against mother nature and you can't talk your way out of it.
Eli be like ight imma head out!!
Ain't nobody got time for all that duckdiving haha
Even the drone got sent in
And almost hit a palm tree at the end haha
Stuck in no man's land at Pipe with more clean up sets coming 😱🙏
Impressive!
That's a ruthless cleanup set it I've ever seen one;( eek!!!
Eli got the wave and everyone got cleaned up😅
Looks like me hosing the ants away in my yard.😅
Board-wreck!!! Fun-Tastic!!! The Brave one........saved himself the shame...... of being washed off
Wow
Webster's definition
hahaha
I've never seen so many crack heads work so hard for a couple of rips!
That looks like the "Mass Pike" of surfing.
All washing up like plastic bottles.
Much better view. Domino effect of first person bailing.
This cleanup set took the lineup from 50+ to 10 surfers, and it stayed that way afterwards
The ocean, sick of their shit, polluting, whining, crying, gave them something to think about. 😮
If you want to get on the field you have to be willing to pay for the access.
If you can handle these sets, then they are actually a good thing as the crowd gets completely diminished after
Seinfeld said waves were the ocean sending us a message that it doesn't want us in it.
Or they are just testing you to see how bad you want it
Turmaline when it’s anything over chest high.
Get out of my ocean. You're trespassing.
What a massacre
At least there wasn't any tombstones.
Serious rip tide.
Sucks when this happens!
Wild…you don’t see that often..
Thinning out the crowd
RIP tide....
Haven’t surfed Hawaii since the 80s, but getting caught inside was always the scariest. Thanks ODL 🤙
Getting cracks on the inside.
On a quickly rising swell, it's inevitable
One surfer off shore got a great ride...and then got slammed!
No surf today 😅
Yikes!
ha@!
Ocean don't care!
Serfs up tho...😊
The moment you wish you were a golfer….
oof
Who needs to go to the gym 😂😂
Everyone got their cardio in this day
So fake!
how so?
@OffDaLip The wave "broils" for far too long. No wave looks like that. No wave maintains that amount of turbulance over that distance.
That’s me sitting at 5th reef pipe
I saw you. Thought you were paddling to Kauai
