    I love the noise that Winlink makes. Reminds me of old 60s & 70s sci-fi movie computer noises. 73!

    Jason, as always with your videos, very informative and interesting. Keep up the good work.

    I've been rocking that clamp for a long time. It's a great accessory to have in your kit.

      You have convinced me to try some window screen under the antenna :-)

      @@KM4ACK Give it a shot, I've had several successful POTA activations with it and in this week's video I test it with the MPAS 2.0

    I like how you always try to go a little further 🙂

    Since everything is a compromise with antennas, it's always nice to have options--especially for operating portable and switching between voice and data communications.

    tilt the telescopic over, it will work a little better. or when I am in our RV, I run the EFHW above the trailer . use the trailer as a reflector.

    • @thecarys563

      Type of trailer? Stick and tin?

    When I have limited space, I take my 40 and 20 meter EFHW antenna and wind it helically around a 9 meter fishing pole, section by section of the pole as I extend it. This consumes minimal real estate, no more than a loaded vertical. Helical wind gives you minimal adverse SWR effects. Will it give you NVIS? Not sure.

    I have to take issue with the name of this antenna. Surely it lowers your db to name anything after Frank. IDK, man....

    Keep at it Jason, it looks good and has potential. ;)
    Would an ATU help in lieu of making adjustments when changing bands?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe a bit for fine tuning but I seldom if ever use an ATU.

    Did you use a radial or ground plane system? Michael from KB9VBR Antennas recently posted a video using a metal door screen that looked very promising.

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used radials for this setup. Just saw Michael's video a couple of days ago.

    In small footprint situations, have you tried running the EFHW as an "L" with the vertical portion up a mast and the feed point at the end of the horizontal portion? That *should* work NVIS and you keep all bands available.

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sir. The inverted L is my preferred method.

    Great job Jason. Can you measure the Sporty 40 for inductance? It would be nice to build one.

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't have an LCR meter but will try to find my nanoVNA and get a reading. Honestly I don't think you can build it any cheaper than buying it from WRC.

      @@KM4ACK probably but I have stainless wire and a 3D printer. With lots of stainless hardware.

    Thanks. Have you done a through wall bulkhead for getting coax into the rig and if so any tips?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Into the RV? I passed the coax in through the outdoor shower bay. There was just enough room to run in by the plumbing. For power, I ran a wire from the battery underneath the RV to an existing penetration point where I could pass it up through the floor. Inside, it came in under the dinette bench.

  • @biringen

    Why not use a motorized antenna on the RV.... or as la6nca does 20m fiberglass pole and wire to a kite using the Icom ah135 tuner...

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used a fiberglass pole most of the time in the past. Occasionally there just isn't enough room usually due to trees directly overhead. The motorized antenna could be another option though.
