Here's the story of this video from what I've heard: The song previous to this featured Kevin's cello, so he was off stage putting the cello away at the beginning. He returned to the stage (not seen on camera) just as Avi hit that low note, which actually damaged the Star Vista's sound system. A little while earlier, Mitch (who was suffering from jet lag) drank two straight Red Bulls backstage. Just as they segued from the choral opening into Aha itself, Mitch's Red Bulls kicked into high gear and he proceeded to go completely INSANE on stage while Avi continued to joyously shred the sound system in the background! And thus you are presented with what Pentaholics consider the greatest live performance in the group's history, made even more legendary by the fact that it only appears to have been captured in this fan-made video!
Larry, that's the best insider description of this video I've ever read! You captured the sensational as well as the absurdly surreal in this performance that only true Pentaholics can appreciate. Hat's off!
LOL! This performance sponsored by jet lag and Red Bull 😆. I can never get enough of this video!
And all it took was two Red Bulls and Avi to make this song during live performance legendary.
The best of Mitch is Gold. Also a live recording, i think. It's unreal.
Yup, it's just them on the couch and five mics. It's one of my favourites.
@@dicodec definitely, definitely check that one out! Mitch does with just his voice what the original artist needed a lot of tech to make.
@@dicodec yes please please check this one out!!! But do yourself a favour & watch the original by Kiiara first so you can see just how much better the PTX version is, Mitch does things with his voice that Kiiara needed computers & loopers to pull off, also I personally think this song is one of Kevin & Avi’s best, not to mention Scott & Kirstie’s backing harmonies which are so beautiful in this one. Trust me, you’ll need more than bags over your ears for it👌🏻🤣💓
Kevin was putting his cello away during the first piece. You can kinda see Mitch moving over as they go into Aha, when Kevin joined them on the other side of Scott. I love Mitch’s smile at the end. He knew he nailed it.
The bass shook the speakers, Kirstin, Scott and Kevin kept everything totally y controlled and Mitch completely killed it. You can tell Avi was classically trained.
The bad audio quality is also due to Avi blowing a speaker.
I understand Mitch drank lots of Red Bull before this show!
I love the official video for this song so you should definitely check that out too
I love it when people who know music hear this and realize what Mitch is doing. Also, this is the video Pentaholics point to when they argue PTX can do anything live that they do in studio. Thanks for the reaction guys!!
What I love about this performance is exActly what you said: even through the blown speakers & the fan cam speakers, you can still hear Pentatonix perfection!
“We’ve never seen this side of Mitch”...you need to start reacting to Superfruit (Scott and Mitch’s side project) or Messer (Mitch’s solo stuff). Or check out Gold, it’s PTX but mainly features Mitch.
We reacted to Superfruit.
th-cam.com/video/Qhkvprxvsso/w-d-xo.html
You're right though we need to react to more Mitch heavy songs.
@@dicodec I did see that one. They have so much more. They have medleys too that are amazing. Rihana, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Empire medley is especially good. I think the Beyoncé is my favorite. Or I’m feelin’ myself. ☺️
Can you give me a link to Mitch's stuff? When I search on "Messer" I get a bunch of stuff that's clearly not him!
@@ClaireBarn He doesn’t have much under Messer on You-Tube yet (he’s releasing the first song from his new album on Thursday called Machine). If you type in Messer - Angels Pray you will see the one he does have on You-Tube. It’s a lot different than what you are used to seeing from Mitch.
@@michellebarry1555 thank you! Love that! Looking forward to his new stuff
If you listen to the studio version, you'll get to hear Avi singing overtones. In this version you can't hear it because he'd blown a speaker and the phone's mic was probably done by that point.
How have you never seen this before. Avi and Mitch show the incredible range of their voices.
That is the real Mitch! Check out Gold! And If you haven't done any Super Fruit(Mitch and Scott) it's a must. Hip-Hop goes Broadway is a blast!
Kudos to you both for reaching past the limitations of sound and video quality to appreciate the genius happening on stage. You are true Pentaholics. Love ya both!
Always fun to watch y'all react to PTX 🥰 thank you! There are actually two other performances from the same concert that Mitch just continues his awesomeness lol, Telephone and also Break Free/See Through
Thank so much! Oh nice, we'll have to check those out as well. Thabks for the heads up ✌
Omg yes, Mitch is so amazing!! Trust me, this arrangement of this cover is so technically intricate sometimes I can’t believe it’s acapella lol! Please please listen to the studio version sometime and you’ll hear everything better! Great reaction! 😁❤️
Bad recording? We don’t care! It’s PTX!! Lol... I’m telling you, I saw them live in Toronto in 2014! Forget the bad recordings, my ears were ringing for at least two days from the screaming fans every time each one was having his or her shining moment. Needless to say, during this song, the screaming reached the summit... ouch! 🤗
Defeying gravity by superfruit highlights mitchs voice as well
Definitely. I must have watched Defying Gravity 100 times...amazing and totally underrated. Super fruit ...Defying Gravity WATCH IT
@@jbenson000 agreed! I wish there was a recording of it that I could load to my ipod. I hope that video never gets taken down.
As good as they all are, Kevin's talents are often overlooked even though he is arguably the most talented member of the group. To see his brilliance on full display, check out his solo KOver of 'Down' by Marian Hill. It is EPIC.
@@dicodec Sorry, forgot. I had even watched it back when it came out. He does something different with his KOver of John Legend's 'All Of Me'. He plays a cello quartet with himself and you can literally hear his cello Beyonce "sing". I just feel like his incredible talent sometime gets overshadowed.
You wanna see the sassy side of Mitch ... you need to a Superfruit fix (Feeling Myself would be a good start)
It's so good to watch a reactor who actually knows music. Great job guys. I'll be checking out your music after this and I'll look at your Patreon tomorrow.
I listened to the song with great pleasure! Amazing performance! This man has surprised me several times already. I did it again today. Thank you, friends! Great performer, great reaction!
You should see the official PTX video for this song. The live performance is slightly up-tempo from their studio recording of the song, but in the video/studio recording you can really hear well and appreciate the intricacies of the arrangement. In the live version (phone recording limitations) you just can't really hear all that Avi is doing, or Kirstie and Scott, hey, Kevin too, for that matter. It's really a stellar arrangement.
This video, also titled "Where is Kevin???", drives reactors crazy until they find out that Kevin was right there onstage next to Scott after the opening choral piece. You can hear all the crazy beats and whooshes and rattles he is making, but never get to see him. It is very weird hearing PTX without seeing all 5 of them.
Yay I love them. They always amaze me each time. Great reaction my friends. 😍
The whole of the concert at Singapore Mitch was on fire there that night Kevin was there but he was putting his Beyonce away and the camera was just vocused on Mitch so didn't see Kevin join in after great reaction studio version is also brilliant love the video for that one 🙂
Mitch isn't moving his jaw to create the pitch. It could be the result of the caffeine rush he had before the concert. Regardless, he corrected it in latter high notes. 😊
The front row either fainted or wet themselves 😂
Я слушала песню с огромным удовольствием! Поразительное исполнение! Уже несколько раз этот человек меня удивлял. Сегодня снова это сделал. Спасибо вам, друзья! Отличный исполнитель, отличная реакция!
Did you catch Kirstie glance at Mitch while he is on the floor like "you all right bro?"
MOAR PTX❤❤❤
Kevin was putting away cello performed from backstage this song
Thank you for this, I love it when my favourite reactors get around to this one 😁 it’s made even better because you guys are musically inclined so you can still really hear how good this is even through a crappy phone mic lol I said it in another comment but checking out PTX’s version of ‘Gold’ is a must for you guys, beyond it sounding spectacular I think you’ll both really appreciate what everyone brings to the table in that performance, especially Mitch. Thanks again for another awesome reaction guys 😁💓 ps when’s the next Lonely Island reaction?!?!?!? 🤣
Just goes to show you that these guys kill it no matter what. We really appreciate you watching. Not sure quite when it will be to be honest. 😯
Every song from this show is bananas and actually the concert speaker blew that night as well....and kevin is there no worries lol
My favorite fancam song I've ever heard. Like you said, who cares about the audio quality, the performance is fantastic. And Kevin was there; he just out of sight for this camera shot. Hey, still waiting for Wolf Totem from The HU, but I'm guessing it's getting chose to the top of the rotation. Can't wait for that or your next PTX react or even your next Dimash react!
It is still dope regardless 👌 oh good he was there haha. Wolf totem we reacted to live on a stream on twitch. Not sure if the vod is still available 🤔 we appreciate you David. 🤘
Alan, "I should have put some bags over my ears. " reminds me of mitch and Scott doing the condom challenge. Lol
The entire Star Vista performance was like this. As for Mitch ... there were Red Bulls involved.
Personally, I never choose to watch the official video since seeing this live version - I'm sure everyone has their own preference, but I feel like they adjusted the arrangement over time while touring and this is a much better arrangement. The official video is probably my least favorite of their videos, so that contributes to my preference, as well, I'm sure.
That's interesting. You're so right everyone has their preferences and we respect that
Yay! So glad you did another PTX, I love your genuine reactions, they're both knowledgeable and amusing. Love the eargasm lol!
Mitch just dropped a cover of 'Your Power' by Billie Eilish on his Instagram, and the piano, vocal, and synth is ALL him. It's amazingly beautiful. As for PTX, they have originals too! Love Again is an older one very similar in style to Daft Punk, and I love Coffee in Bed from their recent original album.
As to their covers, I don't think you've seen Can You Feel The Love Tonight or Imagine... both are out of this world!
Oh oh oh! And Superfruit's Frozen Medley is hilariously good. I'm about to check out your Superfruit reactions, so not sure if you've done that one.
Sorry for the essay, but you guys make me smile and I want more PTX from you!!
Thank you so much! That means a lot to us.
Sounds dope, we definitely have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up.
We look forward to checking those out as well.
Totally down for another Superfruit reaction.
Don't have to worry about that. We will have another soon.
The Unofficial title of this video is where is Kevin? At the beginning look at the stage and you'll see that there is a huge space between Kirstie and Mitch. Then when Avi is doing his incredible low notes you can catch a glimpse of Mitch moving towards Kirsty.. then they are all evenly spaced. This choral piece was written by Avi to fill the time while Kevin is putting away his cello. Then when the song starts after all those really low note all five are on the stage but Kevin is next to Scott amd the camera just never picked him up but he is there.
Welllll...sort of. The choral piece was probably *picked* by Avi, but it was written a couple hundred years ago. It's called "Christus Factus Est", and it's a motet written by Anton Bruckner in 1884. There are multiple motets by Bruckner of the same name, but this is definitely the 1884 one.
@@ms_scribbles yes, the On My Way Home documentary shows Avi pitching it to the group :)
Rest in peace person's phone? Rest in peace those people right in front of Mitch when he got down on his hands and knees right in front of them!!! I would have passed out. Like Beatles fans in the 50s.
about time u guys did a PTX love ur ear organism reaction to them please give us some more of ur wacky comments
It certainly took us a while to get back to them. We will have more soon. Thanks for watching. ✌
Big fan of Pentatonix. You should check out their versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Gangnam Style. They perfectly do the operatic sections live. They also perfectly reproduce the phonetic Korean language of Psy. The beatbox elements they incorporate in their acapella rendition of Gangnam Style is unbelievable, even if you don't like the original song! Good choice, guys. I could stand a few more of these. Alan, they are indeed killing it.
@@dicodec Thanks for the link. I will watch all of these. I couldn't find Gangnam Style or Bohemian Rhapsody on the link, but thanks anyway.
@@robertdyer8322 Gangnam Style is fun just to see them as kids putting on a show, but it's really pretty bad. Bohemian Rhapsody, on the other hand, is a masterpiece.
@@larryross9492 I hear ya, dude. But it's awesome to see them make the effort. And yes BR was indeed a masterpiece.
This is the Avi and Mitch show. You just got Avi gut kicked and the ultimate Mitch slap. Hopefully your brain will recover.
Maybe
I've seen two other versions that they did. The official version has I believe a zombie-est theme to it. Very Cool! Also in an earlier comment I mentioned a song from their Sing Off performances that was from the movie Easy Rider that being "Born to be Wild". Check it out please. Heavy Metal Thunder.
Looks like it is time to do Avi on his own for you. "Change On the Rise" under his own name Avi Kaplan. Very different.
For fun watch the music video they did of Aha. Very different.
Kevin as several people said is putting away his cello in the beginning.
Good reaction! but my eyes were on your T-shirt... Is that the Japanese band?
Is Alan single? Asking for a friend 🙂
It would be better if we could hear them uninterrupted.
Oh yeah, Mitch off the chain! Check out the studio video for this, it's loads of fun.
Yay I love them. They always amaze me each time. Great reaction my friends. 😍
