  • I've used this iron in a few videos recently and its been asked about a few times. Here's a closer look at it. This is the Hakko FM-2032 Micro Pencil soldering iron. It's great for those tiny components. Its something I rarely use but it's great to have when I need it. There's been some boards which would have been thrown out if I didn't have this iron to fix them with.

Perfect! Good to hear there’s a bit of compatibility between more stations. Little iron is serving me well with some of the smaller SMD work that doesn’t require the rework station.

Is there any way to find out if it works with the FX888D? Thanks

It works with the FX-951, FM-203, and the FM-206. It does not work with the the FX-888d.

Why cant i just but the micro pencil and call it a day?
its expensive.. and whats the sense of having two or more?
like.. it heats the same as a normal hakko951 standard tip right?
so i can just use the micro pencil for larger components as well as the smaller components
    proove me wrong

      “prove me wrong”
Tone down the arrogance. You are making a lot of assumptions. Yes the micro pencil tip heats up quickly, likely quicker than the standard tips however the laws of thermodynamics don’t permit heat transfer from such a small tip on anything large. Will just the micro work for you? Maybe. If all your soldering is SMD and the occasional small gauge wire then it may be fine. If your soldering 22g or larger wire than you’d be wasting your time and creating cold solder joints if you managed to male them at all. For all around general use I’d get the standard pencil and grab a thin tip for it, it’s much more versatile. Can solder SMD on up to 8 gauge and larger with the right tips. Expensive, sure but having the right tool for the job makes the job easier, faster and more enjoyable.
