Walao. English is just a language.
    It isn’t a measure of intelligence. 😀

More importantly, the substance of the speech counts. However, for positions like Foreign Minister or Tourism dealing with foreign countries, a reasonable command of English would project a good image in terms of communication skills.Without being critical, there is no lack of talent in this area.

But that's the point..people judge your intelligency by looking how good you command a language..it shows how hard you were in studying a language till you master a language..if you are american or british, their people will judge a person based on something else i guess.

I wrote this in another comment. But there's a difference between a common person and a politician. I have no idea whether he was speaking broken English or English with an accent or whether he was speaking officially to an audience or just talking. But Broken English should not be used by anyone in the Government as it can cause misunderstanding, English with an accent can as its just an accent. If an politician can't speak English, then just speak Bahasa Malaysia and get a translator/ subtitles.

As an English teacher myself, I personally feel like you don't judge people by their proficiency of English cause they might not be up to par with a good English fluency but they excel in other areas of subject. I've seen and witness myself. Even as a teacher, I'll always say to my students that you just need a little more attention to cultivate your proficiency.Never discriminate. And yess I do agree that learning English and mastering it is good but people just need to hv a little bit more conscious that not everyone needs to be a pro in English if they choose so to. Just my take on it. Tapi jgn lah jadi buta English. Yg tu pon tak bagus.

I agree with you 100%. I’m an English teacher as well, one can be fluent in speaking the language but terrible when it comes to writing and vice versa. Do you know that in international schools, some NATIVE SPEAKERS ask Malaysian English teachers how to teach the language? When my students laugh at their friend who has to translate each word one by one to speak to me in English, I tell them “you were in his/her shoes once. Help your friend or congratulate them for putting effort to learn the language instead of laughing at them.”

Never judge anyone by language. Countries like China, Japan, India, Middle East are still shining without English being their first language. They have better technologies/buildings/systems than UK or US! 😂
They are doing nuclear research, launching rockets, have tallest buildings etc etc..
I have also seen most of the immigration officers in Malaysia could speak good English with foreigners. N whenever I get a chance to meet these officers, I always praise them for their language proficiency. And those who can't speak proper, but they try to, I still praise them for their effort, I could witness their happiness and willing to learn more.

My friend commented that there is a need for each profession to have their tools sharpened. For example, the politician in the context is a tourism minister who represents our country communicates with half witted command of English with different accent is fine but a politicians greatest tool is how he/she communicates with others. Unlike the football players or badminton players they DO NOT use their speaking ability to play in the games or use their mouth to hit balls or shuttlecocks. So the politician would have chose his words correctly with respect to other countries had he known good command of English. Since politicians represents the public opinion, how would they without communicating would understand the public, or bring up issues to light, or make the country proud among other countries without good command of language.

During school, I improved my English through learning science stream subjects and mathematics in English, rather than through English class itself. This means I am only proficient in English terms used in the fields of science, engineering, and technology, and excel in those areas. However, when it comes to the English subject itself, my grade was never more than a C, probably because I am not really into literature-related stuff and because I grew up in a kampung where nobody was even aware of what English was. So, I’d say my ability to speak with industry-relevant English proficiency is just a 'byproduct' of learning new skills and knowledge, which of course involve a lot of design, statistics, and calculations. For me, English is not more than just a language. If a student speaks fluent English but can't solve a simple math or physics question or explain how crude oil is formed, explored, and produced, I wouldn't give them a pass mark either 😂

Language does not defined your intelligence. It's just a translator of knowledge. Knowledge is way important to master.

English - Ahhh the bloody language. You might know to speak the language but when you are in for a job interview you are in loss for words. Such a tragedy.

congrates to you nadini.i had browsed the comment section,I read every statements said by the commentators noted all of it. I am proud of you, that the commentators, gave a thumbs for your speech,to educate people people not discriminate anyone for lack of profiencies in speaking a language which is not their mother tounge. also, for my reasoning,I would like to give a an example to people who compare their superiorities to inferior people. e.g..the superior people will be good at something, but will not good at another. The inferiors may be lacking in quality of giving a speeches, but they could be a great genius in sciences and mathematical subjects. in practically,no one will be able to claim that they have every talents and geniusities in their 5 fingers. that's a lie,If anyone does claim.

Tak semestinya mahir English pandai .. Dan Tak semestinya Tak mahir English Tak pandai .
Saya Malay , can speak and understand English well . Tapi Saya belajar Tak pandai pun . Spm teruk , kerja kedai makan sahaja.
Sedangkan ramai je kawan2 Saya yang Tak mahir English macam Saya , tapi berpelajaran tinggi Dan bekerjaya bagus ..
It mostly depends on how you were raised . Saya mahir English sebab waktu kecil saya banyak exposed to video games Dan cartoon . Juga my father juga mahir English ..

Agreed Nandini, English is not a measure of intelligence. Still I think English is important due to globalisation. There's nothing wrong in knowing both the national language and English, which was used widely before.

Best lah video nih👍👍👍 bukan yang cakap tunggang langgang english tu bodoh...sebab itu hanya bahasa saja. Aku punya thesis dalam english...belajar dalam english. Tak semestinya tak pandai bahasa english...cuma kurang percakapan dalam bahasa asing tu ja. Satu lagi, lecturer aku dari beijing...english dia pun tunggang langgang...tapi aku accept ja percakapan dia sebab dia bukan lahir kat amerika atau england...at least dia cikgu, kita kena hormat.

Don't get fooled by pronunciations, look at the grammar. Be proud of your accent because you're exotic elsewhere!
